This. I'm of the opinion we need someone else in now but we've got to be careful we don't damage the team and season by making this ugly. If people genuinely think Giggs would secure more points between now and the end of the season then that's an option but I'm not sure.

Every managerial appointment is a risk. We could wait till the summer, get Pep and he might fail as well.

I dont think most in here didnt expect this when LVG was appointed. But here we are. At this point, him staying on would do more damage to the squad.

The season is still salvageable.

Id never really considered us not getting into the top 4 this season :nervous:

Giving it to Giggs seems the best logical course of action.

LvG has lost the dressing room obviously.

Give Giggs until May to prove himself as a top manager. If he excels great, we have a valid argument for Giggs as a permanent manager. If not, Pep or Ancelotti should be available at the end of the season.

Ancelotti is sitting at him scrating his butt why are we giving it Giggs as first choice.

I want to sack him now but Giggs isn't a viable alternative. We have to finish in the top four.
What are you on about? Ryan Giggs would work wonders with this squad.

Ignore the fact he doesn't appear to be having any influence on the team whatsoever in his current role, plus there is the whole factor of that clueless fool Van Gaal (who apparently doesn't know the requirements of modern club football) choosing to put him on the staff in the first place, Ryan's simply playing the long game.

I've supported United for 30 years - and I have seen us go through rough periods Before. But after seeing us lose 5-0 or going 3-4 games without a win, I have just counted the days until we play again - so we can pick up a win. Not this time - I have completely lost faith in the club - and what is there to look forward to ?

We don't have a single striker who can score goals - we don't have a striker who runs and harrasses defenders. We don't have wingers who can cross the ball - the one we actually have seem to be blacklisted by LvG. We don't have a decent left back or right back for that matter. The one we do have - he is injured and will stay that way for 3-4 months more.

And we have a manager who gives youngster the chance - even when there is lots of better options on the bench. I am all for giving youngsters a chance but not for the sake of it.

We have a game against Norwich next - normally I would count the Days - but now ? We might win - 1-0 if we're lucky - but most likely it will be an utterly depressing game with no chances for either side.

Oh merry christmas btw

totally agree. i've already said i don't enjoy watching us, i don't look forward to watching us and i don't really care if i miss the games. this isn't football i fell in love with. win, lose or draw it's depressingly soul destroying. that's why he has to go. results are just the thing that will get him out of the door.

Giggs can go to Swansea. I don't want him managing the club at any price. The amount of flak being thrown at Van Gaal by ex-players and the media is incredible. Someone at United is doing some serious shit-stirring behind the scenes.

We need to sack him now while the season is still saveable.

We keep him until February or March and we'll be out of the FA Cup, out of Europe and in another desperate fight for top 4.

I firmly believe not sacking him could cost us top 4, not the other way around.

Agreed. Christmas is too important to have him in charge of those games. Plus it'd give the new manager (even if it's just Giggs till the summer) a chance to make decisions ahead of January.

:lol::lol:

Oh yeah. "Stop giving me all this money, please!"

With every game, I'm getting closer and closer to the LVG Out side of things. WE are atrocious to watch and have been all season. But we were getting results early in the season. Now we're not. So while the awful football was hard to take before, football is a results business, and we were doing ok, results wise. But now we're not and it's actually incredibly hard to watch.

It's so hard to watch because the style of football we are playing is so bad. The standard of our actual football is so bad too, in that, we have players on the field who cannot do the basics. And on top of all that, the results are so bad. We have been so bad since Fergie left and there is only so long top players will look at us as a real prospect. Yes, we have the money to tempt anyone, but top players will get top money wherever they go, so we have to stay competitive. Our money will count for feck all if we miss out on Champions League again. Once was an anomaly. Do it twice in three years and top players start to think twice.

Agree with this.
We're in a real mess. Yes today was a lot down to having such an outrageous injury list, meaning we put out a team that looked more league cup early round fare, but it's grown to an overall vibe that it's closing in on time for a change

  • The recruitment farce. Huge talk as always, pursuing the real top players, but we end up shipping off almost all of our attack and leaving ourselves with a scandalous overreliance on a kid in Martial and ...
  • Rooney. Hasn't been anywhere near right all season. A worrying rumour he's a booze hound, and has now missed 3 games (1 0-0 and 2 defeats) with this phantom "ankle injury"
  • Odd selections. Take Young. How has he gone from being so well thought of, he's played in all manner of positions, and then today, with such an injury crisis, he not only doesn't start, but doesn't even come on when Lingard limps off. Bizarre fall from grace. Take Memphis, few weeks ago couldn't get anywhere near the team, and now he's suddenly a key part of it. Don't get it
  • The suspicion that the Van Gaal-Giggs relationship isn't as it should be. Especially when Scholesy keeps being so vocal in the press!

It's all made worse by knowing how poor the league is, and how we could quite easily be right at the top!
Maybe it's better we're not though, as it'd disguise the short comings.

I was very confident. Have to say the last 10 or so games have made me extremely worried about 4th as well. But no chance would I fire him to leave the team to Giggs.

I'm not one who is advocating Giggs as out future manager. But could he do any worse than we are doing right now? Seriously. He has played at the highest level and worked under the best manager in the business for his entire career. To suggest we would implode just because Giggs is our manager doesn't make sense. I don't think he's the man to manage us long term. But I really don't think he could do any worse than we're seeing at the moment. The team has been playing awful football for 2 and a half years now. So that surely can't get any worse. We were cannon fodder under Moyes and LVG looked to have at least recified that and made us hard to beat (I hate that phrase - Relegation candidates want to be hard to beat, not Manchester United), and now even that is gone and we're looking atrocious.

100% spot on.

This isn't a kneejerk thing. The performances have been just as boring in the games we've won.

We really need to be exploring other options. Ancelotti until the end of the season and go from there would be nice. Otherwise it could easily become another Moyes situation by keeping him in charge and our season being totally ruined.

If Pep wants to join in the summer I'd rather wait.

There's a big risk of us getting burned by Pep if we wait on him in the summer. Looks City bound and by then we might also have missed out on the other obvious candidate in Carlo. Best to get Carlo in now and support him with a few emergency buys in January in my opinion.

Of course he could. He has no managerial experience. It's not like 4th or 5th is the worst we can be. We could end up 7th or 8th. I just have no faith in Giggs. I'd rather go with the guy who has lead big teams and won big things.

looks very much like he has lost the dressing room. time he left.

I changed my vote to sack him now.

how can you say that, when most of the players in the dressing room today, aint actually the usual players!

I bet the players in there today love him for getting a chance in the Man Utd first team when they shouldn't be near it!

I believe pep is that much better and worth waiting for. Ancelotti is not a ''must sign" manager for me. If pep doesn't was to come then sure. But otherwise I'd stick with LVG and then try to get pep. Otherwise the next best out of the lot.

I wouldn't be moaning if we had progressed, not about being the best over night but rather moving forward.
yeah i get ya, we do seem to have regressed this year, i honestly blame the transfer window more than the training or man management or whatever. Like we just do not have a senior attacker that can play, and we are expecting one of the best couple of teams in the league. LVG has had success before trusting youth, but it isn't going to get quick results, which he needs in 3 years

Like it needs to be because of that. People aren't stupid. They're criticising Van Gaal for the appalling job he's doing that can be seen by our very eyes. Nobody needs to tell us that.

We can absolutely do worse than we are doing right now as we are seeing with Chelsea. I really don't want to see us going the Giggs route.

4 wins in 14 games since the end of September? How are we still so high up the table?

Just calling it like I see it. Would likely have been top today if not for extreme injury issues. Te board, as rational beings, likely understand that.

Will need to address this thin squad sooner rather than later. Can't get away with it in this league, hopefully he is learning this after the second season of madness

Don't Bournemouth have injury problems that are almost as bad as ours?

LVG was successful at Ajax. The players he had were: Patrick Kluivert, Marc Overmars, Dennis Bergkamp, Frank and Ronald de Boer, Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Winston Bogarde, Michael Reiziger, and Edwin van der Sar.

The rest of his management career has been spotty. Winning a league title here and there in the Bundesliga and La Liga with what are the top dominant teams, isn't that hard if you dont' screw up too bad.

He is finally being exposed for what he truely is. A crap manager.

Changed to sack him now. I don't see where the improvement can come from. We will still continue to persevere with the same style of football and hope that it works. I think we have to gamble, because the current approach will cost us the top 4. I just can't see how the current style of play will pull us through tough away games like today against stubborn, hard working teams on small, narrow pitches. We have absolutely no idea how to counter attack. It's just tragic to watch.

so wait do we need emergency buys or is the squad fine and its all LVG's fault?

I'll tell what worries me about LVG the most. The fact that I see Bournmouth managed by this young chap with such ordinary players and yet able to implement possession football better than us. That's mental. The way they pass it in close quarters and fluidity of their version of possssion footballs beats LVG's Manchester United. It's bonkers and I can't get my head wrapped around it.

We were consistently outplayed in this manner throughout Moyes's season and it looks like we are massively regressing at the moment.
