certainly wouldnt sack him after stoke game, we palyed some good stuff even though it wastypical Mark Hughes performance from the visitors.. if we can maintain to play this kind of football till the end of the season I want Van Gaal back in but we know that after several games problems will come again like it happened many times before with Van Gaal and Im feeling positive right now :-)

Sorry but I don't care if he gets us 2nd place. His got to go at the end of the season.

It's paradoxal to be called a kneejerk when you want a manager out after dozens of poor games and see people make a U turn after one very good game.

We should only sack him really, if it becomes apparent the last two games have been a blip. I hope he wins some trophies with us and then we move on in the summer.

He should be gone in the summer regardless of how we perform over the last 14 games. He's not a long term solution and his time here has been very underwhelming.

Feel genuinely sorry for the bloke. Not as good as he thinks he is. It's been a bloody education.

He's not got anything right. He can't put a squad together - Martinez has assembled a better balanced squad for Everton than Louis has for us. No harmony, balance, forethought...

I don't quite understand the clamour for him to remain, he's already stated this is his last position in the game and will retire, hardly a long term solution and with results as they have been, he's not exactly doing him or anyone else any favours, more of a hinderance as with him in the job, it prevents someone else more competent in taking up the hotseat (Not Giggs/Goggs) Maureen is abit of a punt but he's a proven winner this season aside and he seems to be willing to change his ways for the club, to have someone so prestigious that is desperate to join us, we'd be crazy not to, he has the ego to want to challenge/live upto the expectations of Ferguson and i reckon he would stay and create a legacy longer than his other jobs anyway.

Im not saying he should stay, I want him out no matter what as he's very inconsistent or maybe he's consistently bad... every team will bounce back once upon a time, one good game doesnt really matter, we can aggree on but I wont mind if he stays till the end of the season if we play like this, meanwhile we can try to find our next manager:-)

Spot on... It took me 18 months to change stance from backing him to wanting him gone. No way that 2 games (one of which was Derby!) will convince me that he's suddenly discovered his mojo and is about to lead us to an unlikely double this season and a treble if kept for next season (which should be the aims when starting a season at Man United or any other top club).

We should only sack him really, if it becomes apparent the last two games have been a blip. I hope he wins some trophies with us and then we move on in the summer.
So, you're willing to believe that wins against Derby and Stoke are enough to write-off and consign to the garbage bin of history the preceding 22 league games, the 6 dire CL games etc.? Frankly, he's been very iffy all through his reign and anything positive he does from now on should be seen as an unexpected bonus for us. The best he could do is to set us up well for the summer with a new manager at the helm... He was a short-term solution and frankly, aside from 4th spot last season, he's failed to be even a solution. Better than Moyes? Sure, but that's the very definition of "damning with faint praise".

I have a weird feeling we'll go onto win the league now. Dunno why, just do. He'll then leave.

With the way we played this season, Id settle for top 4.
Once we get Jose in with a new signing or two I'm sure we will be challenging for titles again.

LVG has shown nothing of the sort that he can go on and win a title in England. It'd be different if he's ever proven he can get our team going on a run, but he hasn't. Well, aside from that spell we all talk about on here, last season, in which we then went on to lose three games in a row.

The man is out of his depth.

Amazing that after 18 months that run of three games is the absolute zenith of what has been achieved.

That would be absolutely hilarious and quite amazing.
Exactly I have this weird feeling we're going to go on a run playing football from the gods now. Win the title and then he'll leave and suddenly we'll feel a bit weird.

I will claim, that I always knew and that eveyone should have showed some faith.

Still think we're a striker short to win the title. Rooney would have to earn his 250,000 every week from now to the end of the season for us to do it.

Does anyone remember him moaning about long preseason tour affecting preparations during last season ? And he got what he wanted this time around, didn't he ? Woodward should have fired him for that reason alone....

I will show my testes to the cashier at Tescos if it happens, in a misguided attempt to them him or her what a good manager I could have been if I had gone into that line of work.

we will be lucky to get fourth come may and that is still not good enough, we might just go on a good run but 18 months of drab and with mourinho waiting on the wings its adios, United want top players and the board are well aware now that they wont come with LVG in charge that alone has sealed his fate

I'm resigned to him seeing out the season. But with 18 absolutely mediocre months in charge, there's really no point giving him a final season UNLESS we go on the biggest lucky streak since Chelsea in 2012 and win the title.

Exactly, I think he will see this season out then he is as good as gone.

On what basis can you say top players wont come and play for Van Gaal? Which players have not signed because of him? That seems highly speculative to me.

Also, is this not a concern with Mourinho? He was hated by the end at Madrid, he lost the dressing room at Chelsea. Is it not possible, given how small and cliquey the world of football is, that he will have a bad reputation among players now and they will not want to come and play for him?

Kroos?

Hey maybe its true, maybe players dont want to play for Van Gaal, maybe Kroos would have come to us if we had a different manager, despite Real's interest. I just personally dont see evidence for it.

Rather, it feels to me like we've reached that stage that we also got to with Moyes, where people will pick up whatever is at hand and hit Van Gaal with it, regardless of whether there is any evidence for it, or whether it actually makes any sense.

For me, criticising our results is absolutely valid. Criticising our performances is valid. Wanting to upgrade the manager because someone better is available is valid. But saying players dont want to play for Van Gaal is not backed up by any evidence Im aware of - though there is plenty of evidence out there that Im not aware of, so Im prepared to stand corrected if someone can come up with a better example than Kroos.

A win against a knackered Stoke, still 10 points off the top and we can win the league

I love how this forum sways from rock-bottom pessimism to sky high optimism at times.

No you're right, it's one of those batshit crazy phrases said for so long that people just take it as fact. When SAF was at the helm, what players chose us over other top clubs in Europe just because of our manager?

i agree. ... and even then i want him gone too. i'm not saying i'm reasonable or even remotely respectable in my view point, i just don't like him as our manager. nobody listens to me anyway, so i can feel how i want!

He should have been fired in December. Almost every decision he has made this season in terms of style of play to substitutions to squad composition to player selection has been diabolical. I've highlighted a few of the lowlights below that stick out in my mind.

Style of play: Boring, negative possession football. I heard a stat earlier in the season where 70% of our passes were backwards or sideways. What the feck is that? How do you expect to break teams down when you don't pass the ball forward? I would have fired him for this alone.
Substitutions: Subbing Nick Powell on for Juan Mata in a must win Champions League game. Powell has been a ghost since Ferguson left and we bring him on in arguable the biggest game of the season. Saddest part is the guy is on loan now and I'd be shocked if he ever plays here again.
Squad composition: Our squad is entirely too small and short of quality to compete on 2 fronts. In the current era you need to be 2 deep in every position with an international quality player and at so many positions we lack this ability. Also, the squads lack of pace shows a general lack of understanding for how the premier league is played.
Player selection: Wayne Rooney. He plays every game no matter how poor he's been in the previous game. Despite his recent upturn in form he's past it and should be sold.

There's probably a lot more I could add. I always wanted Van Gaal to succeed here but by every measure this season has been a total failure and disgrace IMHO.

I agree. The continuous use of Fellaini could be added in for player selection too.

I was starting to forget how much I hate this useless asshole when he gave me a sharp reminder. Apparently, Rooney is wrong, we are not winning because the players have more freedom. We are winning because they have more confidence but the training methods and philosophy are unchanged and will never change.

I'm not agreeing with the remark of Wayne Rooney when he said that. It's only because they have more confidence. It is especially so with Wayne Rooney, who is saying that because he has scored seven goals in a row

Then he can say that he is playing with more freedom, because he has more confidence. But you want to write that it's because he gets another training session in another style or because Louis van Gaal gives more freedom? No, it's still the same.

We train still the same, in the same way. It's not because of a change of attitude from Mr Louis van Gaal or another way of training. No, I'm sorry to say that.

We are always working hard and very professionally in the philosophy of Louis van Gaal. That is also the same for Jesse Lingard.

He's a graceless prick.
