LvG has bought the wrong players. Our squad doesn't have the technical ability to play tiki taka football in tight spaces. You can moan about a lack of movement if you like, but I think it comes down to our players not trusting their teammates to find them with the right pass in congested areas of the pitch. That's why they dawdle around in non-threatening positions of space instead. Out of all of our squad, only Mata has the reliable accuracy that's required. It's the reason he's been a mainstay in the side up until recently, when we shifted away from possession football.

Van Gaal has dulled our football, wasted our money, cost us in the league and all for little return in terms of squad recomposition. I see hardly any long term positive from his reign.
Pretty much agree.
It's 'England National team syndrome' - players who don't trust their ability to pass or receive under any sort of pressure and without space to make three touches to control. and often the receiver controls with a touch taking them away from goal and back into a non-threatening area.
So passes keep being made to the guy in space, and 55-70% still ends up in crossing as the main creator of chances.

As for Mata: I wouldn't say he's much more suited to it than the rest. Yes he''s accurate (more than pretty much anyone else) but it's usually a non-threatening accurate. He still doesn't have the ability to do much with the ball when under pressure. He still gets forced away from goal too easily, drops into non-threatening areas, can't turn his man, or dribble his man very often.

Worlds away from the likes of Costa, Robben, Iniesta, silva, Muller, Ozil...
He'd still be too limited for Guardiola to build around. That ability to side-step challenges just isn't there.

assuming presser will be tomorrow? should be interesting

Perhaps he'll walk out again early if anyone has the temerity to ask him any relevant questions. Wish them a Happy Chinese New Year or something and instruct them to enjoy the leftovers from Wings.

Looks like he's staying for the foreseeable future. According to the DM, he's looking for a new house in Cheshire.

At this point, I doubt it. What will he do this time? Suggest he might quit? Fall on his sword somewhat in an attempt to placate supporters? Bemoan his players' inability to take their chances (despite them hardly creating any)? Hail the fighting spirit in the squad? Gush over Rooney saying a few words in the locker room? Feign anger due to media speculation surrounding his future? Stage another walkout? We've heard it all. It stopped being interesting a long time ago.

He's got to go. If you don't stop the bleeding, you die.

The club should make a statement on what it's current thinking is. Else it's impossible for employees at the club and fans alike to focus its energy and support.

If the board has full confidence in its manager, given the unprecedented about of speculation from media and fans alike, it should clarify it's position.

Am getting fed up with this game to game uncertainty.

If Giggs was coaching the U-21 side he would have more right to the job. Unfortunately he is part of the coaching staff who are coaching the first team very badly.

This. If out next manager is going to get the job simply on merit for being an ex player, we might as well give the job to Solskjaer, at least he has experience.

Giiggs is a United legened, but there is nothing that proves hes a good manager, never mind the manager of one of the buggest clubs in the world

Does pressing F5 every 5 mins not mean anything anymore? Why has the thread name not changed to "LVG ousted"?

MANCHESTER UNITED have agreed a deal with Jose Mourinho to become their new manager, according to reports.

It is the Star...but

Apparently we got both Mourinho and Guardiola!!! The same day! Which is great! Perhaps Jose will manage the away games and Pep the home games. :D

Pep Guardiola chooses Manchester United over Chelsea and Manchester City

PEP GUARDIOLA has reportedly decided he wants to manage Manchester United.

So we've agreed a deal with Mourinho while Pep has chosen us.

Meanwhile, LVG offers to resign 3 times but we tell him to stay.

There doesn't seem to be any coherence in what the media is reporting about us.

4 days left until the end of the window and hes not been backed. Hopefully thats a sign he's definitely off in the summer if he doesnt go before.

If it is Jose it makes no sense to keep LVG until the summer. Has to be bullshit.

The new Evans and Houllier maybe with LvG staying on as the AON complex janitor.

Maybe HIS spirit in not quitting.

Can't believe the club haven't acted or publicly clarified it's position yet. If we're keeping him a short statement would at least put to bed the rumours.

Signing someone in January was the one thing that I thought might rejuvenate my hope for this season under LvG. Meh

What if Mourinho wants the job in the summer and not now?

It's possible but he'd be silly to for a few reasons. Firstly it gives him a better idea of the squad before the summer window. It also allows him to ensure he gets the job rather than going head to head with Pep. Plus he has the opportunity to stroke his ego by turning our season around and outdoing his old mentor. He's going to want the club he'd be joining to be in the champions league as well, and if a jobs worth doing...

Agree with this. Also, remember the press release issued by Mendes stating that Mourinho was ready to get back to work ASAP.

I wonder if you could get odds on Guardiola, Mourinho, Klopp and Simeone all being PL managers for the first matches of next season. That would be quite entertaining.

Why should the club make a statement? Just like transfer speculation. If they do it once then they have set a precedence on commenting and subsequent silence will be taken as denial.
The lack of transfer activity is the biggest question mark.

Most definitely this, it's causing aggravation and rumours and severe panic in the fans, we don't want him here but if he's staying he needs signings and a statement from the club saying so, either way he should be going at the end of the season at the latest so just come out and tell everyone so people know not to renew their membership or ST or go see a game.

PEP GUARDIOLA has reportedly decided he wants to manage Manchester United.

The Don Balon article that they've pulled the story from is really random. All about Bravo coming to United with Pep choosing us almost a matter-of-fact side note.
