Shaw is unfortunate, but after Shaw who else? With LVG it is very much a case of square pegs in round holes. We didn't have a back up left back so we threw Darmian and Young there.

How, for the money spent do we not have a proper backup leftback?
That would be Rojo who is injured, or Blind who is having to play CB because we only have Jones, who is also injured.

That is not strictly true. We have Argentina's left back (Rojo), but he is also injured. We also have Blind who can play that role, plus the youth guy (CBJ). So we are pretty covered in that position. Less so at RB, and less so at CB.
We are also being exposed in Midfield as any fringe players are not up to the standard to challenge Schmidfield and Carrick.

Hence when we have a Carrick, Schwienie injury on top of the defender it is no surprise we are being found out.

If we assume that JM is out of the question (seems so, and rightly so), then there isn't any top manager available right now out there.

In the summer could be a different story.

Still not an explanation for why he's still there. We could very well put Giggs in charge till the end of the season.

I actually laughed when the goal went in yesterday. It was just so predictable that it could have been from a script a scouser wrote.
I am firmly in the 'get rid' group now. We have not improved at all since last season. I sometimes wonder what they actually do in training. Norwich looked shite yesterday, but they scored 4 goals.

We have lost our club lads. Manchester United now is just a money spinning vehicle. The contracts the owners have must have certain stipulations/conditions. Perhaps it is top 4. That is all that matters to the owners.

It is hard to let go. But at least I and those of my age have seen the best.

In the end it will be less painful to watch this garbage....if I watch at all.

I'll always watch us. I'm a fan. But I can't justify renewing my St financially. There is less will to ignore this with having to suffer these performances.
It feels like giving value for matchgoers money, is of no consideration.

I posted in the match day thread he would score the winner when he came on.

That shite Norwich beat us 2-1 at home a month ago. Says it all really. Liverpool fans must be raging mad we best them at Anfield last week. The only good thing about LVG has been his record against the scousers.

Shots on target at home in league football this season:

1) R Madrid 103
2) Bayern 91
3) Tottenham 87
4) Barcelona 86
...
85) Man Utd 35

I wonder what damage this will do to the brand and future fanbase. What a damning stat indeed. I hope this gets shown to LVG, the board and Fergie. I mean there's playing tight, playing conservative, playing badly, playing diabolical and then this stat.

fecking depressing. Cant fecking believe LvG tells his players not to shot just for the shake of keeping the ball

Rubbish. The glazers don't tell lvg to pick a team and tactic that will bore the pants off their customers

The board are at fault for not recognising quickly enough that he hasn't a scooby what to do
The board include the Glazers firstly. Secondly, the Glazers are not football people - they are businessmen. We are owned by them for the same reason the Tampa Bay NFL franchise is - both make lots and lots of money. They entrust the club to Ed Woodward who has looked out of his depth where football is concerned since day one, but has excelled himself at bringing in deals to increase revenues. You do the math as the Americans say.

Wondering if the compensation due to lvg reduces drastically if he lasts this season
The money they are touting about to get Neymar etc. Surely it is worth paying a few million to get rid of this guy and his staff. There is no way they are getting players of Neymar's calibre with LvG in charge.

Short-term at least we need a manager that can de-program the squad and get each individual player performing to something like their potential.
Think they will need a hypnotist to do that and a psychiatrist as well. The players heads are all over the place.

He won't tell them not to shoot, but I bet he says to only do it if it is a clear chance, therefore putting doubts in their minds whether to shoot or pass. How many times do people say why didn't he shoot?

We all know Jones' injury record do it's a bit foolish to make this guy a key component in our defense. Plus there is also the fact that, after letting Vidic, Evans and Rio go, we have signed one senior CB who just happens to be better at LB! Poor planning all round.

I wouldn't even care if they put Giggs in charge now. That's how worn down I am at this stage.

Roll the dice, Woodward. Do something.

He says this about every bloody team. I don't get why we are so special but yet so shit that teams just park the bus every week.

This is the most infuriating about the whole situation. He might as well have said "it's difficult when the other team defends properly". What the feck is he implying? Should they just stop defending and let us score? Teams have come to OT for ages and parked the bus, heck, every small team does this against the bigger teams, so it's not like it some groundbreaking new tactic.

I would love to know what he writes down in that book of his and what instructions he gives the players, because its truly getting absurd now. We go game after game, barely creating any chances, never mind scoring, which believe it or not is a massive problem in football, so why the hell keep doing it? Is he mental?

Moyes looked clueless and conducted himself like a buffoon at times, but at least he was honest about being clueless. Van Gaal is equally clueless if not more, yet acts like our misfortune is down to external factors and not his shite tactics. The board needs to get their head out of their arses and forget the "we are not a sacking club" nonsense and ask themselves which is worse: Sacking a manager and refrain from some trifling moral principle, or becoming a complete laughing stock

Whatever happened to patience and supporting the manager in the bad times as well as the good?
If there was evidence that at least some of the players were playing to their potential and we were trying to play football and win I'd be supporting him but pretty much the entire squad is under performing and we are barely getting a shot on goal.

I'm all for support but surely you must admit this is nowhere near good enough if you look at the squad and club as a whole everyone expects more. Even small clubs like Norwich have improved and shown progress we are just sliding further back and irrespective of league placing the evidence on the pitch shows something has to change.

I don't think anything will happen. We thought it would after Norwich, after Stoke and maybe after Chelsea. Now see a positive result against Derby and Stoke, and a few will think that LvG has turned it around until the next loss. It will go on like this until we are out of top 4.

He'll get the sack. Soon. Probably in 2-3 weeks if not already after the next game. It would not suprise me in the slightest if this team lost against Derby County.

I admit, during SAF's last few years I felt he was losing his grasp and even though we were winning a lot, we hardly seemed to dominate games. So in a way I was looking forward to a new manager bringing a little bit of freshness to our play, and may be make our play more dominating again.

But the $hit that has been served in last 2.5 seasons was something that I had not imagined even in the worst dreams. The performances under LVG are becoming worse compared to last season and the only progress visible is backwards. There is no way a decent manager with even a decent clue about football should struggle so much with our squad, specially against teams that are hardly much and regularly get put in their place in the league.

I don't post often but our performance against Southampton was one of the most uninspiring ones that I have seen, with no signs of any intelligent play, any bright spark or anything even close to making you get up from your seat, no positives at all. We all know defeats are always around the corner in the league but this performance is far far away from why we all love this game so much.

I think there is no decision left to be made. Anyone sane in a decision making position should be sacking LVG right away and then thinking with a cool head whether we need someone in a caretaker role until the end of the season (Giggs etc.) and give us a better chance of landing a good manager in the summer or we take the punt on Mourinho now. But there is absolutely no reason to persist with LVG now. He himself looks bereft of any ideas, any hope and is just waiting for someone else to make it easy for him.

If he stays we don't get top four, that's my view anyway.

I'd rather we go down fighting and give Giggs a crack at the job than allow Van Gaal to fail. At least they can then say, we tried something to rescue the situation.

How has he not been sacked? WTF are the board doing? He should have been gone at Christmas.

If he was going to be sacked, I would assume it would have been last night. So no, don't think he is going anywhere for now.

Depends if the board need to meet and discuss the situation. What do the Glazers want?
If we were owned by an Abramovic type, he could have gone last night.
