I predict we go on a bit of a run now, with better style and results. It was around our 30th match last season when we started to play better last year. The last few matches, while still far from good, have been better. Maybe I'm just being overly hopeful but I think it will start to click

Woodward seems to be the don of getting the best sponsorship deals, if our sponsors are not happy if true, VG either better start adapting better to the PL, or join benitez because even Woodward needs to make sure the coins are rolling in. Best for business is more important that some outdated policy the club has that they stick by their managers
Had a feeling this was coming. As long as LvG was winning games and keeping us near the top, sponsors wouldn't complain as jersey sales would continue apace - South East Asia, I'm looking at you. But if we're not winning and still playing dour football, that will slow down (even though Adidas would be the last to admit this openly). I'm not saying that fans are fickle in remote parts, but that in those areas, new fans are attracted either by success (see City, Chelsea and PSG fans increasing there) or by style (Arsenal continue to attract fans despite not winning).

That's why LvG will face pressure from Ed regardless of any other reason. The club today is a corporation that looks at the P&L more than the PL table. As such, anything that happens on the pitch to hit the P&L will threaten the manager even more than a poor run of form. If LvG gets us winning soon, he's going to be fine. Success will bring in the sales and money. I'm not even going to speculate on style since he's made it clear that he won't change that regardless...

Whilst I'd like to think this will happen I honestly believe it's unlikely. The last last two games have been 'better' in that we haven't actually lost and performed hopelessly. The Chelsea game had some decent stuff for the first half hour but in the end we couldn't score and could've easily lost had their attack been even slightly more decisive in front of net. And this was against an utterly average Chelsea side completely out of form.

The first half against Swansea was among our worst, utterly awful and hopeless in attack and by the second half of it the opposition honestly looked more likely to score. We had some individual skill by Martial, Young and Rooney get us through against a relegation candidate (hooray) but honestly could anyone actually say we played 'well'? It was nice to get the win to end this horrific run but how anyone could say this changes anything in the long run is beyond me. As long as Van Gaal stubbornly keeps his set up and tactics we'll just keep under performing and struggling against any decent defensive side.

Say what you like about Real but Perez had cottoned on to the fact that the FSW was taking his club down the shitter and he has taken decisive action.

If you think United fans should boo the team, call for the manager to be sacked at games etc. and behave like fans in La Liga then that's your opinion which your entitled to. Personally, I'd prefer if match going United fans don't stoop as low and I'm thankful that they rarely do.

Woody and his wife head out for dinner with LVG and his wife each week. Best buddies apparently.
Woody hasn't gotten where he has without having a ruthless streak somewhere in him. IF it comes to it, friendship will come 2nd. Also LVG will understand as that's the world he works in

Do we have to make top 4 again this year to get all the adidas money or was that just first year of contract?

Might seem like a stretch but could it be possible we were looking at Jose until it was confirmed Guardiola was leaving so we've told Mourinho it's not happening and are arranging things with Pep?

We are going to get Giggs, the next Guardiola :)

I know everyone is resigned to this but I'm not convinced. We aren't like most teams in that we give our managers free reign over practically the entire club, sponsorship shite aside. I could see it if we had different infrastructure say with a Football director or whatever they are but I think might just have something else up their sleeve

As far as I understand it, we'd have to get 2 consecutive seasons out of the Cl starting from the first year of the contract. This is the first year of the contract and we were in the CL, so if we don't get top 4 this season it wouldn't impact the Adidas money. If we fail to make the CL this year (2015/16) and next year (2016/17), the money the following season (2017/18) would be reduced.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Who said anything about fans?

Who said anything about fans?

Who said anything about Perez?

I make a comment about the behaviour of fans and said that I found Real Madrid's to be cringey...

then you quoted my post in disagreement and said something about 'at least Perez saw the sense to get rid of the FSW?'...

Hope it never happens.

That is the problem, we are not winning and playing god awful football, and that win over Swansea should not change anything. One win in nine is still a grave concern, not too mention we got to go to city, Chelsea, Spurs

It will hit them eventually that if we are not successful than shirt sales will fall. There are plenty of fans who started supporting United because we were winning and dumped other teams to come to us. They will quite happily do it again.

He's not going to get the sack now, so we just have to stand by our manager for the time being.

Some do, but my emotional investment will always be in MUFC, because there is nothing quiet like supporting united, its crazy. But VG for me needs a kick up the backside, because the past 8 games he seems almost like trying to ruin things for himself, not freshening up the formula, playing it slow and safe while we have been so slow, while teams keeping breaking our noses and we have no clue why this is happening. Its like we have a watch and the time is one hour behind, and having no intention of keeping up. Yes we beat Swansea, but still the 0 wins in 8 I still think will cost us in the end

With the news we are not interested in Pep, its safe to assume we are in for the long haul with LVG as we prepare for the coronation of Giggs. Would love to know what makes the club so certain this is the route we must go down.

that may be the case but its nonsense to suggest Woody is incapable of 'pulling the trigger' on someone when he needs to. I'm sure friendship doesn't come into it when necessary

That is correct.

OK, I didn't see your first post so we're at cross purposes somewhat.

Real's fan base, like ours, is a mixed bag. They don't all wave white hankies and adopt the attitude that their team has a divine right to win trophies. My dad made lifelong friends with some Real fans during our semi-final battle with them in 1957. They are just ordinary people like you and me. I've sat in the Bernabeu once or twice and it really wasn't much different from watching a home game at Old Trafford. But this was a couple of decades ago.

One thing that permeates the whole club there is the desire to be the absolute best. Standards are incredibly high. The fans expect the best players and the best football and the club accommodates them as best it can. United fans are that way inclined too; at least the United fans of the present day. We're used to football played in a certain way. Van Gaal is the antithesis of that. Losing is all right as long as the team goes out and gives its all but lately, they look bereft of any attacking ideas, and we've got a manager who won't deviate from his 'philosophy' and the perception of some of the fans that the owners are happy for us to scrap for fourth place, just as long as the commercial side of the business keeps ticking over.

D Mail reporting we sounded out Ancelotti about taking over from LvG this summer, apparently was done in November so before our horrible run of results, were told it was too late and Bayern made him feel more wanted anyway.

If true there has to be serious doubts about LvG staying next season, does say Giggs is then most likely to over though..

Just seen in the transfer tweets that he wants a left back but we can expect a quiet window, 4th place will be a miracle!

So we've been snubbed again, Woody out! Oh wait, it's the Daily Mail...

We won't get fourth with our current attacking options. It's as simple as that.

To be fair, it's not too surprising if we only "sounded him out". With Pep's departure from Bayern, I imagine they'd have probably been quite resolute and determined in their pursuit of Ancelotti. We would've always had an uphill task to get him over Bayern anyway considering their current status, and presuming we went in half-heartedly then we weren't going to have too much of a chance.

Still, I suppose it's a bit more understandable since LVG's position was a lot less ropey at that point.

Does anyone else miss the excitement of "Ed woodward has left x on URGENT TRANSFER BUSINESS" stuff.

This just in: Lovie Smith, Head Coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is fired after 2 seasons.

Pathetic 'supporters' in my opinion but like I said in my post - thankfully it's a rarity.

Pathetic? People have the right to act however they want, and LVG has deserved most if the abuse he has got. Doesn't make you anymore of a top fan because you have blind faith, you know that right?

Paying fans obviously have the right to act however they like... but likewise, I am entitled to whatever opinion I like and I think booing the team, players or manager at games is pathetic then that is my call. Where do you get off telling me what my opinion should be?!

Also, not booing or having the opinion that booing is wrong does not mean you have 'blind faith' or even want the manager to continue in their role. The two are completely unrelated.

Bringing back Januzaj is Van Gaals first slice of humble pie & hopefully his last.

Bringing on Nick Powell as a last resort in a must win CL game on 8th Dec, only to ship him out on loan to Forest four weeks later ate surely the decisions of an irrational fool. That alone should be sack-worthy.

Meanwhile the once mighty Utd have spent so much time and effort nurturing financial deals at the table of commerce, we're left begging for scraps around the elite footballing managerial table. When Pep goes to Citeah it will be the ultimate indignation.

Do you even know why they bringing him back? LvG wanted him to go on loan in some English club, where he would have higher chance to play,Januzaj decided to go to Dortmund like a boss. Now we asking him back due them not giving him proper chance or him not earning the same.

I never said you weren't, however I wouldn't label you 'pathetic' for your opinion, Everyone is entitled to an opinion whether they are a 'paying fan' or not.
I find it funny that you have just been promoted yet are calling people already.
