Rodgers was sacked after an away draw to Everton. LvG should have went after last nights result. Against Stoke we were an absolute joke and yes we were better last night but Chelsea were utter wank.

It's a strange situation. Can't remember the last time a manager has gotten past a crisis stage by getting a 0-0 draw

We are going to end up being 10 points away from top 4 before anything is done about LVG
If we keep losing 4 then drawing 1 to save his job it might be even worse.

Keeping him after the Stoke match just to sack him after an improvement vs Chelsea would've been a bit strange. Can't expect him to turn this around over night.
Not saying he isn't in sacking territory with the current form though.

I wonder how things would have gone had it been an away game? Both for Van Gaal and the players.

He's not going anytime soon, even if we do lose against Swansea and Sheffield United...which is a huge possiblity these days! The board will stick with him until four games to the end of the season...put Giggs in charge for those four games, then get another manager in on the proviso that Giggs is assistant....

groundhog day......

A week ago I thought we would have Mourinho and then the January transfer window to get him some players. Really can't believe the way it's all played out.

LVG out in Febuary while being completely adrift from top 4 and Giggs in is my prediction now

doubt we will get another manager in worse scenario. It will be Giggs. fergie as his mentor.

They are businessmen, and probably look at numbers more often than not. I mean its some cognitive dissonance to read about the complaints that fans have then continue to see matchday attendances close to full capacity.

During one game in the 1974-5 season there was less than 40,000 in the ground but still David Meek was reporting the best supported club in the land in the MEN's 'Football Pink' that night. Today, the club shamelessly uses the fan's sentiments in the ground only to manipulate press and media coverage because all they really count are the credit card payments made globally during the game. The Customers-as-fans complex fluctuates with the impact of such schemes as overseas tours and television coverage, but is judged solely on credit card sales. This gauge is true for all clubs but smaller teams are trying to re-engage with their fan base, whether that happens with the top clubs is open to speculation.

Since the Glazers protest the club has been quite adept at shifting sales to other outlets, thereby killing the impact of protests. A recent example of finance first at OT was the freeze on ST prices following the Moyes period and the massive marketing of protest based unused tickets to business entertainment organisers. As a thirty year plus ST holder, I was actually phoned by the club in February to encourage my ST renewal. They had never called me before - it was quite bizarre because it went on for three months until I renewed. If you engage with some of the guys in the ticket office it becomes quite obvious how far their system equates fandom to sales. The club responds to falling sales it doesn't respond to the fans, irrespective of whether they are in the ground or not.

If they are so sure on giving Giggs the job why isn't he the gaffer now? What is he going to learn in 6-18 months as LvG's assistant? How to throw your toys out the pram? Threaten to resign? Look like a quivering bollock on the sideline?

Some pretty good points made in this vid, especially from Craig Burley. Echoes a lot of what we've been saying on here.

Nice post. Mariner is right, ever since we sold Chico our forwards avoid the box like an allergy. Burley was only saying what pundits began saying last night and then suddenly closed down. Obviously ESPN doesn't pander to OT's PR pressure. I liked the '7 dwarves' comment.

People really need to make their peace with LVG being at the helm, at least till we cannot get top 4 mathematically. I hate to admit it but I don't see him going and I don't see the board sacking him also.

The bar keeps lowering. LVG is a master of lowering expectations. It's funny at how quickly we forget and accept the states quo. And Mariner is right, I had the same gripe - not enough runs in front of goal.

Oh well.

When you think of him as a master of spin and wagging the club you can see how the status quo is in a constant state flux. How has a poor draw at home after weeks of crap become a turnaround? A devious man.

He's been doing it since he took the reigns. He's created an annoying cult in the process and all.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had a clause in his contract where we can sack him with no compensation if we mathematically can't make the top four, like Moyes did.

Yeah we have this tendency to ignore reality until it's too late. The run we're on currently is as bad or worse than what Moyes was producing and it's getting worse and worse. We won't turn this around unless we mean winning 1 in 4 by beating Aston Villa at home turning things around. I imagine van Gaal will tell how he is Old Trafford hero when we beat Villa 1-0 at home.

Why does he get time to "turn things around" when he hasn't managed any change since the start of November? It's not as though there have been substantial signs of improvement bar one match where we failed to score.

Things might improve to the point where we nick a game by a goal, but beyond that I just don't see a drastic change coming. We've been waiting a season and a half now.

I agree it's time for LvG to go but I think it's unfair to criticise his coaching against Chelsea. It's obvious our squad is to thin and without some key players we are not the same team. With both Shaw, Rojo and Valencia injuried we lack attacking options wide and our possession oriented game is toothless without quality fullbacks. Imagine if we had Shaw up against Ivanovic and the result would be different.

Bit of a rum do all round last night. First of all Fergie walks in via the players' entrance. Might not mean anything but I wonder if he was in the dressing room passing along the message that the club is sticking by Van Gaal. Then the man himself struts out nodding to sections of the crowd. The team shows a bit of fire for a while then the game settles down to another 0-0.

As I said, it probably means nothing at all. Why shouldn't Fergie go where he pleases? But I didn't get the impression from Van Gaal after the game of a man whose term as manager had come to a close. Quite the opposite in fact.

Frogie gave it both barrels to Rooney; that's why Wayne was running about in fury, trying to get sent off. [/tinfoil]

Yeah. I know. I don't know to what extent he's created it, be it said - perhaps more a case of a certain set being there, waiting for someone to go all cultish over, but he's been made a cult figure alright, no question about it. A grand *********** whose teachings are hard to grasp for the common folk. There's an element and a half of that - on the Caf and elsewhere.

And it's...infuriating. Especially when it's presented as "reason" in the face of a supposed irrational meltdown on the part of everyone else. Holier-than-thou has been added to more-knowledgeable-about-football-than-thou in a particularly obnoxious manner.

correct. business as usual. Look the players are employees. A number of them are foreigners and have no connection to the club. Why should they bust a gut for a charlatan, which I'm sure the smarter ones have figured out. The owners game plan is still in play. no change imo.

I'm sorry but yesterday was more than just a bit more confidence from the players, it was an entirely different approach, players were running forward, players were taking more chances with their passing, players were allowed to shoot from all over the place, etc, we haven't seen similar since the City game last season.

Why? As one poster said probably because his job was on the line, and if that's true it makes his famed philosophy and what has passed in previous games this season a joke.

Not really. We were able to play fast attacking football whilst retaining possession. Our first touch and ball control was significantly better than Chelsea's, basic skills he has drilled into the team.

I remain convinced that with the right attacking incoming transfers and good luck with injury will see the 'philosophy' complete.

I still have faith in his method, just we don't yet have the right players performing it. I'm a minority I know, but I still believe his plan can work given patience and investment.

Tbh the only evidence I've seen on here of an LVG cult was UnitedinRed. And he was a right cult.

That video has angered me all over again. Desperate is exactly how I'd describe us right now as a club. Nobody has a clue what to do and Woodward doesn't want to take a drastic decision incase the spotlight from the fans turns to him.
Haven't read the article but the spotlight is more likely to turn more against him if he doesn't act, let Lvg continue and results don't improve.

Chelsea were utter shit, we should have smashed them. None of their players, apart from Hazard and Oscar maybe, looked up for it. I couldn't believe how disinterested their defenders looked. They reacted to everything very slowly, almost as if they wanted to lose. Anything they did was a token gesture.

The only reason I see him stsying on is the signings that must be lined up for January. It's the only thing keeping me sane atm

Alex Ferguson 'would advise Ryan Giggs' at Manchester United .Sir Alex Ferguson would act as an advisor for Ryan Giggs were he to take over from Louis van Gaal as manager of Manchester United, a respected journalist has claimed. Van Gaal's tenure at Old Trafford continues to be subject of speculation, with the club now winless in eight games and down to sixth in the Premier League. The Dutchman has insisted that he will not step down from his post amid rumours that former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and assistant manager Ryan Giggs are among those in the frame to take over in the coming weeks. With just two years of managerial involvement to his name, the appointment of Giggs would be a riskier move but journalist Paul Smith has claimed that he would receive assistance from a club legend. He wrote on Twitter: "From what I understand Fergie has offered to step in and help Giggs." Smith added that United owners the Glazers "would consider" appointing Mourinho but "there are key individuals opposed" to the move. Giggs previously took full charge of United on an interim basis following the sacking of David Moyes in April 2014, winning two games, drawing one and losing one.

I would prefer this to seeing a fraud still being our manager.

It'll be no change until sponsors start jumping ship. We have a massive fan base for sure but how will the casual fan in, say, China or Malaysia react to this brand of mediocre rubbish?

The whole reward of this painful exercise is the expected catharsis of moving the club and manager's position away from Ferguson's shadow once and for all. That's one of the reasons giving the job to a strong willed person like LvG sounded like a good idea so he can make his own mark on the team without the insecurity of looking at the director's box everytime anything goes good or bad.

For that reason alone I don't see a point to Fergie actively taking over as pseudo manager and advising Giggs. If the club opt to give the job to Giggs, they should give it to him with the understanding that he acts on his own full accord and shows his managerial chops rather than as an extension of Ferguson.
