I'll be there but no way would I do this. He doesn't deserve it, he's only trying to manage our club. It's on the board now.
exactly. Not looking forward to being there tomorrow, more to see which players bring their spine and bollocks

Well at least the game is tomorrow (well today now technically) so we won't have to wait too long to see what direction we're heading in.

I could never want us to lose a game of football, especially against a club that's seen as recent rivals for silverware but tomorrow is a strange game. Win/draw and I can't see the board sacking LVG despite the recent troubles, lose and he is a goner surely?

ERM. By doing the job they are paid do do for the club that pays and the fans that support them.

Maybe that's should be enough of a reason. Not every player likes every manager. Most still work their arses off. Those that dont are a disgrace.

There is no excuse. Absolutely none.
My question is, how do they get rid of a manager they dislike? They sure as hell will not perform up to standards. But i get it, it's a little complicated for you.

Do we really want him sacked though? I mean, I think he's a tactical dinosaur and can't imagine him getting us top 4 but I don't think for a second that our board would get Mourinho in. I feel confident that that'd give the role to Giggs until the end of the season at least, which will see us suffer even more.

I'm not convinced it would.

Anyone ascribing this latest flurry of news to the rumour mill is deluded. The reason it's been quiet for a full 24 hours up until now, and the fact that "all" journos are now running the same story, at the same time, is quite clearly because there's been a brief from the club.

I'm at an utter loss trying to understand what is going on behind the scenes. It makes no sense at all to me, from the outside. LVG has clearly lost all belief, yet the club is adamant that he stays on (for now).

My only speculation is that it is tied to LVG's compensation, when he eventually, and inevitably, leaves in the near future. Which in itself is ridiculous, because I can't believe they'd be stupid enough to forfeit six points to haggle with LVG over pennies. Or millions. Or whatever.

That briefing from Woodward to the media where he outlined that United were not in for Pep because they were sticking with LVG has put him in a terrible position. It may have been a face saving measure after losing Pep to City but "we don't want him anyway" doesn't work if you sack your manager before he was available.

Giggs was clearly the long term plan but simply cannot take over a club in such a mess. It's true that Jose will not bring continuity in the style of play the club were aiming for under LVG but neither would Giggs.

From a footballing perspective, the club is being really badly managed. Mourinho has fallen in their laps at the best possible moment. Sometimes the most obvious solution is also the best one.

Yup. We're fecked. Fecking entitled PLAYER-legend..

I thought Woodward was stalling to get time to take a last crack at Guardiola and/or to avoid looking too desperate to jump at Mourinho, having already missed Ancelotti. Now I think we're stalling because he's sensed a chance that LvG will resign, sparing Ed the embarrassment of having to sack another one, and saving some money on compensation.

If Ed really thinks LvG is that special behind the scenes, he'd bump him up to DoF and appoint a head coach (Giggs?) and do his face saving that way rather than having him parked with the team at the Lowry. A bit of conviction from Woodward wouldn't go amiss right now.

All the papers are saying he considered it but was asked to stay

Don't you want us to win tomorrow? You need to decide if you're supporting the club or against the manager. It should be an easy decision.
Where did I say I didn't want us to win? Oh it's nowhere. So don't assume a damn thing. My post is purely directed at how poorly the board is handling the situation. Even if they were content with Louis, then issue a statement. The silence on their part is not ideal.

Can't get any worse. Horrible football and not winning. Giggs will sink or float.

The level it takes to fire van Gaal.. What if(against all odds...) Giggs isn't any better? When do we fire him? "Can't get any worse".. This is fecking making the decision to turn left or right to evade the iceberg.

This is quite clearly Woodward's briefing, so I don't think it's inconceivable that the matter of LVG's compensation is one of the factors still influencing the situation. I doubt LVG would have walked up to them and said that he's leaving, full stop, but rather something to the effect of "just pay me my money and I'll be on my way." The only way he'll leave without compensation is if the situation becomes absolutely untenable for him. And it could be what Woodward's playing at.

Source: I made it all up, in my head, while trying to make sense of what the feck is going on at the moment.

It absolutely can get worse. No one actually believes we'll keep losing games forever with LvG. That's not what it's about. I think there's a decent chance we'll make top 4 if he stays, and a decent chance we won't. If we get Giggs, we're potentially in for a world of trouble. Unless he turns out to be another Guardiola, which is unlikely to say the least, we could be in for a long slide.

- Lose 4 games in a row
- Win 4 of the last 15
- Win 14 of the last 36
- Sit 6th in the PL
- Get knocked out of the CL groupstage
- Get knocked out of the LC by a Championship team
- Do all this having spent £250 million in 18 months

Result? Be begged to stay on as manager.

I just wish I could be so shit at my job and have the manager begging me to stay.

We're a shambles of a club, and a laughing stock to the footballing world.

But how do you know they don't like him?

So many arbitrary comments made without any supporting evidence.

Most of our defeats have come from piss poor player mistakes, bar the Arsenal game. I mean did Arsenal get smashed by the saints because the players do not like Wenger. Players feck up, it happens.

You really believe Woody begged LVG to stay on? Really?

don't forget we've just gone 7 games winless, and could easily be 8 tomorrow.

Most of the press seem to be reporting it, and when that happens, it usually means they've been briefed.
and if it is true, why have the board rinsed the manager in public 24hrs before a game, if they supposedly refused his resignation anyway

He just comes across as broken. You just wonder if our next game had been a week away would he still be in charge? I'm starting to think he'll go regardless of the result tomorrow.

If it's any consolation, Daily Mail reckon Woodward only asked him to stick it out till after tomorrow's game.

If we win (big if I know), Ed will ask LVG to stay on. But if LVG thinks he's lost it, then why force someone who doesn't even have the self-belief to carry on anymore. We must be missing a chunk of information.

I bet Giggs was promised the job when LVG signed on. That's the problem we have now. How can we get Mourinho when we've already told Giggs he's up next?

Isn't even remotely true. Giggs is a nothing in the management word. Let alone in the conversation at a club like United.

The club would be in as much if not more turmoil if they promoted Giggs after this LVG disaster.

In the end, LVG is gone. He had a chance a month ago to change his ways and show he can adapt tactics. He failed. His overall management career is one of failure, with 2 specific sucessfull spells with 2 different teams ages ago defining it.

LVG is as much past it as Rooney is.

Don't get people saying 'we've begged him to stay' nor the 'I don't know how to turn this around' from LVG. It's clear speculation with LVG's twisted words used to back it. None story in my eye. The Times headline is specious at best and that is being generous.
