It's amazing really. I don't think it would be nearly as bad if we were actually playing some good football.

No that's a good point, people tolerated it until the results started going badly, as soon as the did the patience has run out very quickly.

Part of me just feels bad for him, he is a proud man, and is/was a very good manager, somehow the parting needs doing with dignity, but if needs doing now.

Has a manager ever imploded quite so quickly? Only seems five minutes ago Schweinstegier was getting us a fluky last minute winner against Watford and whilst the football was crap there was no hint he was under pressure, next thing you know he is teetering on the edge or maybe even over it, amazing how it has unfolded.
Fans were making their opinions on our lack attacking football heard though for a while. Just needed things to go wrong to tip things over the edge. It has happened very quickly though, even the 1-1 with Leicester wasn't that bad a result.

Because it's not football-based management. Which was just fine when we had the same manager for 26 years, ruling his department. Now it's a mess.

Hence the need for a DOF, but I doubt Woodward will ever go for that.

What ? Are we really worse off point -wise?

I'm struggling to think of any in the PL era where we've been any worse, or even one in which I'd have thought we were worse. Moyes had 31 in this stage as he had three in a row in the lead-up to the seasons mid-point. We won our 19th to finish the first half of the season on 34, but promptly hit poor form once we started playing better teams.

Even in a poor season like 04/05 we were vastly better at this stage. Same for others in which we had a poor start, unless I've happened to forget one year.

Yeah 2 points worse off compared to the season under Moyes after 18 games.

The funny thing about being worse off than this stage last season is we were crippled by injuries at the start of last year and after 10 games only had 13 points.

Where's that thread taunting the fans who wanted LvG out, that was posted when United went top of the league for a week? People simply ignored the obvious sign of the mess that this team is. Crazy as it seems, LvG is as bad if not worse than Moyes after spending so much money. At least Moyes had those cup runs in the Champions league and league cup.

I can just imagine LvG showing the board this information and saying look how high they ended up finishing. I can finish that high as well.

I just looked and I would say that we have averaged 38pts after 18 games, we currently have 29pts and under Moyes we had 31pts.

Yeah, confirmed what I thought. I knew we started poorly in 92/93, but had an idea that we still managed to do better by this point. The fact that we were that low in 98/99 really surprises me, though.

It was a really competitive league (like it is now) and we didn't lose a game till the end of the season which explains the 1st place finish.

LVG deserves to go now, his arrogance and lack of respect for the clubs traditions means he will never succeed here.
On another hand, I dont like the defeatist attitude of a lot of our players and for me this stems from the clubs recruitment policy. Fergie used to hammer home the importance of not only bringing in younger players under a certain age with potential talent that could be turned into reality but equally as important is they have to have the correct attitude and will/desire to play to be successful for MUFC, not just whoever seems to be the manager at the time of MUFC.
You have to feel some of the signings in the last 2 years haven't been vetted in such a way and the clubs emphasis at throwing money at the situation is a real cause for concern. If I hear the words 'marquee signing' again in January then Im officially done.
My club is in turmoil whether we want to admit it or not. LVG deserves a lot of the blame but so does Woodward who to me hasn't got a feckin clue & some of the players as well are either not utd standard &/or dont have the right attitude to be part of a successful team culture.
The world's most popular football club as we have been rightly regarded for so long, isn't playing a brand of football that made us the most popular club in the first instance & therefore, the money supplied directly or indirectly (through) by the 60 odd million worldwide fanbase wont continue at these historical levels as even the die hards are getting bored, as the club are becoming quickly unrecognisable to them.
My solution is Red Ed needs to be moved back to commercial sponsorship role, LVG needs to ideally quit(if not then sacked), if Ancellotti was available, I would have gone for him but it looks like Mourinho is the only top class candidate and sadly its too early for Sir Ryan Giggs.
The squad doesn't need overhaul but it does need major surgery again, which it shouldn't do to be honest after a few hundred million quid later.....
Not good enough for utd are Fellaini, Mata, Depay, Blind & Rojo imo.

Only thing I disagree with is that I think a good manager can make a top player out of Depay and Rojo.

We drew a lot of games around Christmas and our second half of the season was rather special :D

Yeah, to be fair we were still comfortably in the race at that point, and both us and Arsenal hit superb form after the 18 games.

Probably worth remembering it's Boxing Day, and yesterday was Christmas. A decision would require a good number of folks being consulted, meetings arranged and so forth - many such people are likely travelling or busy.

I'd expect something to happen Monday or even Tuesday given the UK holiday.
This better not be the fecking case. This is exactly why I said he should've been sacked after Norwich since we have to play Chelsea in 48 hours. The club better not use the timing as an excuse when it could've been avoided. I swear the people running the club need to grow a pair.

We keep hearing "time might run out soon" etc but after each loss it just stays the same "time must be running out"

Fact is we don't have the bollocks to sack him and he'll stay until we mathematically can't get 4th

Such a mess, will any player we have lined up for January still come if LvG is going to go? and will any new manager we get have the the to get his own players signed in January?

If we do change manager it's hard to see him doing a great deal with he squad as it is, as it's so thin and lacking in too many areas so signings will surely need to be made, personally I would be happy with a new manager and Januzaj and Wilson back home at this point.

It's possible that the media have been briefed by United, "We will talk to you soon, but shut up until then".

when did all this "Briefed" business start becoming a go to piece of writing? Is it when Woodward joined?

As I see it written so often these days, but never used to be.

I'm sure he'll be sacked (or he'll walk). It seems pretty clear. Not because the board have seen the light, but because the situation now is completely untenable. The delay might be down to either not having a plan b (which wouldn't surprise me) or because people are turning us down (which also wouldn't surprise me).

I mean, Giggs until the end of the season would be pretty mad too. Maybe no worse than lame duck Louis but still.

Exactly. We were ticking over fairly nicely, defence solid, barrier in front fine, and just waiting for the attack to fire.

Then all of a sudden bad run, that ridiculous injury crisis, Schweinsteiger's 3 match ban, and it's teetering on the edge of finishing.

Maybe there's something to the rumour that he'd be given the Stoke and Chelsea games to salvage something.

Our stupid board need to learn how to handle a real club. They have had it all to easy under SAF and we are seeing the results of that now.

Just out of interest... what makes you think Jose would be any different in this respect?

Personally that's something that I heard about following la Liga with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Valencia feeding the press with informations. At United I believe that it's new and comes from Woodward.
