We won't sack him. Would have done it after Norwich. Woodward can't accept that he cocked up again in appointing Van Gaal.
Short of taking a chance on a left field appointment there really was no one we could have gone for and his body of work included some brilliant achievements like the title he won with AZ. There was plenty of evidence that he could self combust like he has done now but it's not like he beat several candidates to the job, managers like Klopp/Ancelotti were distancing themselves from the job because they realised that the job was a poisoned chalice what with 'rent a quote legends' mouthing off their demands for 'exciting' football at every turn. Van Gaal has made several mistakes and some mind boggling decisions but lets not kid ourselves in thinking that there isn't an element of internal resistance to change at the club.

Van Gaal: "It is not always the club that has to fire or sack me"

This should be a very quick meeting with Ed Woodward. Needs to use this opportunity to force his resignation or sack him. He may not get a better opportunity.

No no no. It's already too far for that. So what if we beat an misfiring Chelsea, we then get beat by the next side and we've lost another week? Time is up.
Really, I'd love to be as positive as you about him but I just don't see why he should get another game.
I want him out too, it'll just be weird if he gets sacked after a positive performance against Chelsea. If he's not getting sacked now or after the Norwich game, I doubt he'd get sacked after United do well against Chelsea.

I don't think we'll play well against them anyway.

I wonder how many is changing their votes now

Nothing is improving and we still look as awful as we did when LvG first took over.

It's a process

If Van Gaal is not sacked or has not resigned by end of weekend, I will do something horrible. Like I will buy a kitten and throw it out of the window. If it survives, I will bring it back and throw again.

If nothing else works, maybe start another thread to get behind LVG (maybe this time to push him out of the door) :p

Sky Sports seems to think he was waving goodbye to the fans at the end of the match.

To be fair, they and the newspapers will do anything to enhance the narrative that LVG's going to be shown the door, or will walk out of it himself. Everyone loves a good sacking in the media; sells papers and boosts viewing figures.

And they love Mourinho and the box office of him taking over. I'm sure the press want to push that angle.

Haven't been on the forum for a while but had to come and see the views after today's game.

I've always supported Van Gaal and really thought we were going to go somewhere with him at the helm. We needed a rebuild after Moyes and I've always believed he would deliver us to a better place.

However, it is too far gone now. There is so little chance that we will turn our current form around and whilst I have given him my support, I've always said his results will define his success and the results have totally collapsed. The players are devoid of confidence and our season is collapsing. So yes, it's time to change the manager. I'm so disappointed it hasn't worked but it hasn't.

I'd also like to add that the personal stuff against him is pathetic. People rarely try and do a bad job, he certainly hasn't. So criticise his tactics or whatever but I think he's a good guy and one of the great managers, show a bit of respect.

Thanks LvG, take your well deserved retirement.

The journos and ITKs on Twitter have been really quiet, wheels in motion?

It's very quiet. Probably because the club aren't giving them anything and they won't dare make anything up again.

Feels like he'll be falling on his sword to be honest.

So Tuesday we could be 10th. We are going to have a season at +10 loses.

Still wouldn't be remotely surprised if we stuck with him, but surely got to go at this point.
