Maybe, but he'll not stay longer than 3 years and he'll also need some time to adjust to the prem imo. He has bossed the La Liga with a ridiculously good side, the fact Tito, and now Enrique have come in and they have barely broken stride is testament to this (Martino stalled them a bit), and at Bayern he walked into the CL winners, and a club that just bullies the other teams in Germany, if anything they have almost underachieved under him as the haven't won the CL again.

The point is he accustomed to walking into ready made clubs that are used to winning things, he just won't have that at City so it'll be his biggest test by far, and how much history he can achieve in 3 years is open to debate, but same could be said if he came to United I suppose.

I'd argue City are far more 'ready made' than we are, and they've also been accustomed to a certain level of success over the half a decade. With us there will be far more scrutiny and pressure.

No sign of the sack if tonight's newspapers are anything to go by. With LVG in charge it's not inconceivable to see us finishing the Chelsea game just 5 points ahead of them, behind Liverpool and 13 points behind Arsenal.

Except our players are very good at keeping the ball and winning it back. The only thing lacking for him would be the attack. We have the talent and money.

We could only be 10 points off 4th though so it would still be salvageable.

We've won quite a bit over half a decade too and that's without much in the last 2.5. Its a long time in football so I don't think that's something Pep would consider.

I have no idea how to embed a tweet but sky just tweeted saying about how Thierry Henry has been saying José would be the perfect fit for united, not exactly news but major news outlets now taking about it.

I wasn't really comparing them to us in this instance, merely stating that City, for better or worse are also used to winning things, and every season will have the aspiration to be first in the league.

It was under a different administration, City are structurally ready while we are not, he would have to organize the club.

has anyone realized post count in this thread now already surpassed that of the LVG performances thread?

I think City will need their squad replacing soon, barring a couple. Its getting on and seems stale.

Is Pep the man for that?

Ours is lacking a few tweaks and addition's. Something he's well suited too.

We'll need to put to pasture just as many players as City over the next few seasons.

Personally, I would love for Pep to manage Man Utd, but to paint this picture that we're better suited to him, or City isn't right for him is IMO pretty ridiculous.

I agree with you. I think the only reason he'll end up in City is this guy Txiki, or whatever he's called. I don't think it would take all that much managerial wisdom to address our forward line as the area of weakness. City are not that good; they're incredibly weak for title favourites, and their squad is definitely full of relatively old men. They're the opposite of us. Their attack is sorted, but their midfield and defence needs an overhaul.

Well it has gone off on several different tangents. I keep coming in expecting updates but it's all chat about City.
guessing it's due to one of our managerial targets pep most likely headed to city.

but you're right.

I keep changing my mind back and forth

I'm certainly not as strong in the Lvg out right now camp as some of you

But we are only 3 points of city... I think he really does deserve these two games to see if anything changes

Don't fall into that trap like many of us have already.

I am not in the firmly out camp, but I am not against the idea of a change either. You have to say the return is pitiful for the spending he's done so far.

I'm far more ambivalent towards him leaving than I was when Moyes went, which I was actively hoping for. Despite the very obvious negatives in recent months, there has been a modicum of progress under LVG, and I think in 5-6 years time we might look more favourably on his tenure than we do at the moment.

It's very difficult to judge. I am so ambivalent that I want him to turn it around, but if he were sacked tomorrow, I wouldn't complain. I am 60% in favour of him going and 40% in favour of him staying. Having said that, I am 100% in favour of him leaving during these awful games of football.

This about sums up how I feel too.

During games and in the aftermath I'm just thinking get rid, get rid.

Then once I've settled, usually after seeing how bad some of our rivals are, I begin to think whether we'd just be screwing ourselves with a mid-season upheaval.

Fair enough we're unlikely to win the title. But top 4 and an amicable parting in the summer still wouldn't be a bad outcome.

Of course catch me after a dismal defeat to Stoke on Boxing Day and I'll be singing a different tune no doubt.

Think I just about agree with Randall. Give him these two games. See if we've reached that nadir. If not, and it seems the worst is yet to come, time to go. Would be good to give a new manager a transfer window.

You do realize, the next manager isn't going to play as many kids? We'll probably buy in Jan but people talking about a transition from Pep or Jose...they would be starting on the back foot because of the number of players they'd probably want to buy. We can get Jose now. If we want Pep we can wait, but we've been top twice and have shown very little spirit or fight to keep it. We keep talking about how many points we're only behind, but that size keeps getting bigger. We've had injuries but I would expect LVG to be more brazen. Norwich was one of our better performances...sums it up really. If we wait, we might lose out on both and then who else had the belief that's needed for the job?

The club is a joke.

Liverpool sacked a manager for less. Rodgers at least could say he wasn't in full control of transfers and got them s title challenge. Van Gaal has made a big mess of it when he's had complete control, which every manager would crave.

He should be walking.

Dont know if this has been posed but Richard keys, on Beinsports, said there is going to be a meeting tomorrow morning to discuss his future

As much as I am not against the idea of sacking LvG, Liverpool is the last club we should look to when it comes to good management. Unless we really do want to emulate their spectacular downfall.

No quotes, just ITK guesswork, tons of padding and inaccuracies, but here's the article

'We are Manchester United and we will survive': Louis van Gaal calls for unity as beleaguered boss battles to save his job

  • Van Gaal under huge pressure after run of six games without a win

By CHRIS WHEELER FOR THE DAILY MAIL

Louis van Gaal gave a rousing speech to Manchester United’s players and staff calling for unity on Monday as he battled to save his job.

The beleaguered United boss received universal applause from an audience of nearly 200 during a Christmas lunch at the club’s Carrington training ground.

‘We are Manchester United and we will survive — but we have to stick together,’ was Van Gaal’s upbeat message, although a traditional pantomime performance by United’s youth teams was postponed.

Van Gaal is under huge pressure after a run of six games without a win and three straight defeats, culminating in Saturday’s shocking 2-1 loss at home to Norwich City.

United’s American owners, the Glazer family, and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward are understood to be considering a change and have made contact with representatives of Jose Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea last week.

Mourinho has already made it clear that he is ready to return to work immediately.

Indeed, sources at United suggested that the club have asked Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes to tell his star client not to jump straight into another job away from Old Trafford.

Mendes is the man who forged close ties with Sir Alex Ferguson and former chief executive David Gill, bringing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson, Bebe and David de Gea to United.

More recently, he has worked with Woodward on the signings of Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria, as well as De Gea’s new contract last summer, and remains an influential figure at the club.

However, Van Gaal wants the opportunity to turn his team’s fortunes around over the Christmas period, with games against Stoke City and Chelsea.

The cancellation of the club’s pantomime was blamed on today’s FA Youth Cup tie at home to Queens Park Rangers — the timing of this apparently meant that the younger players didn’t have enough time to rehearse their annual show, which they habitually use to mock United’s senior stars.

Or at least, that was the official explanation.

More likely, this is no time for fun and jokes when the manager is hanging on by his fingertips and the club have descended into a, well, pantomime.

‘Behind you . . . ’ are certainly not words that Van Gaal will want to hear right now with the spectre of Mourinho looming over Old Trafford.

Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes remains influential at OId Trafford after tying up new contract for David de Gea

You could hardly blame United for cancelling a comedy show, just as the players themselves pulled the plug on their Christmas drinks party nine days ago because of the unfortunate timing.

After Monday's speech by Van Gaal, the players left for a visit to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital without goalkeeper De Gea, who was less than impressed to miss the trip because he was waylaid for two hours by a random drugs test requested by the doping control unit.

Even while Van Gaal carved the turkey, though, the knives were out for him in some quarters after a dreadful run that has seen United crash out of the Champions League and out of the top four in the Premier League.

The ramifications of Saturday’s defeat by Norwich have reverberated from the stands to boardroom level.

The unflinching support expressed privately by senior figures just a couple of weeks ago has given way to a feeling that change may be needed.

After sending so many players to Old Trafford, Mendes could finally have a say in the appointment of their new manager as well.

Ferguson had championed the Portuguese coach as a possible replacement when he planned his retirement in 2013.

However, Mourinho had given Chelsea his word that he would return to Stamford Bridge when he left Real Madrid, and questions were raised at United about whether he would be the right fit for the club anyway.

Juan Mata echoed his manager’s call for unity, saying: ‘No matter how tough the situation can be, I’m not even thinking about giving up.

'We have to stick together and believe in ourselves so we can get a positive result as soon as possible.

‘I believe that the only way to get out of this bad streak is to keep working hard and sooner or later we will get the results we want.’

IF he did give this speech and IF he did use the word "survive" then it would set a depressingly Moyesian tone. Not much to it that would justify the phrase "Great MUFC detail" as mentioned in the tweet!

Talksport saying announcement coming tomorrow.

Saw this as well (sorry if this is ITK!)

Talksport trying to get a few folk to tune in tomorrow

I'm at the point where I wake up in the morning hoping van gaal got the sack. anyone else feel this way?

for the record I felt the exact same after the city and liverpool home games with moyes.

He won't get sacked. He's getting those games, the board really want a reason to hang on to him. Maybe they have their own plans.

As for Talksports, they don't know shit. They're always wrong and Goldstein is always wrong. Every time.

This 'only x points off City/Arsenal/top' is a really rubbish excuse that completely ignores how terrible we've been this season. Relative to their squad and resources City have been utterly average this season, absolutely no excuse for Van Gaal's return. And either way, it's a very selective reading of the league table, we're also level with Palace and are as close to the top as we are to 13th. People wanting LVG out aren't really focusing on the table so much as they are the septic performances, team selections and squad management. It's flogging a dead horse at this stage repeating the same issues but it really is that simple.

And why the next 2 games? Why not 3? 6? Why would the next two decide anything? Do you think that Van Gaal will suddenly change everything and have the team playing to their potential? That after 18 months of putrid football and below standard performances it'll all suddenly click? Will only two wins do? Or is it points we're looking at? Performance level? The club has to decide who they want for the foreseeable future with another transfer window coming up, either they (somehow) stick with Van Gaal or seek a replacement, none of this game by game nonsense.

Always thought this ultimatum shite was daft.

"2 games?! Shit lads, it's serious now! Stop fecking about, we actually have to win a couple...."

If from what I've heard about Rooney and Carrick's feelings about the setup are true, I wouldn't be surprised if they couldn't be arsed in order to get him sacked.
