Luke Shaw out for an extended period with injury

Haven’t you seen all the other teams having long injury lists as well?
Arsenal have Timber and Jesus injured
Villa have Coutinho, Mings, Buendia and Ramsey injured
Chelsea have Mudryk, Reece James, Fofana, Chukwuemeka, Nkunku and Badiashile out
City have KdB and Stones out.

Almost every PL team already has players out due to muscle injuries

It's almost as if the players are overworked and having a world cup in the middle of last season was moronic.

Can we do what everyone else does and play a CB at fullback?

AWB - Varane - Lindelof - Martinez

I remember when Paul Parker waz out injured back in 1992 and a young lad from the reserves called gary neville was called up and the rest is history.

We gotta give youth a chance, so hopefully we will have faith with our young LBs and throw one of them in.

Youth under Fergie and Harrisson was a whole different prospect

There's no reason to believe youth at United today is going to be any sort of quality if the same recruitment approach as the first team is used

Play 3 at the back in AWB, Varane and Martinez and use Antony and Garnacho as wing backs.

Throw in a extra midfielder and just attack !

It would be fun whilst it lasted.

Fernandez was decent on loan last season. Dalot will probably start at lb but Fernandez can deputize surely.

Liverpools season then.

This guy needs blacklisting from the club.

The guy's reporting just this week saved the club from both itself and our dumbest, most obnoxious fans. I'll happily keep his shit football manager jokes around, thanks.

I though we got in a new Doctor bloke from Arsenal to solve all this nonsense, maybe that old Arsene Wenger Chefs Hat meme needs an update !

This is a blow. He’s one of the few players who still looks competent when the teams playing so badly.

We have very different definitions of fun, Dalot has played LB to a high standard so there is no need to change the whole team setup, I'd live Fernandez to be given a chance too as nobody thought Rashford, Garnacho etc would have the impact they did.

First time yes. He's on a power trip now, Ferguson would have cut him off after that second one that tried to undermine our statement.

Dalot can do the job. I liked him there more than Malacia to be honest. We should be able to cope for few weeks, not sure why people are panicking.

Those who do it also have wingers who are comfortable playing the whole length of the wide channels (operate as midfielders in the middle third and as attackers/creators in the final third). Doing it with either Rashford or Garnacho is asking for trouble. Lots of it. The second problem is that, although Martinez has a lot of good qualities in his game, recovery pace isn't one of them. You're just inviting long balls down that wide left channel.

That'd be Fernandez. Could have been worse, actually. But I still think Dalot is our best option.

We pose zero threat to City at the moment. Should have swallowed the bitter pill and asked for Cancelo on a loan (with an option to buy). Pep had already said that they wouldn't have minded him going to United. Arsenal and Chelsea did it last season, why not? He would have been an instant upgrade on the both flanks.

Serious questions need to be asked of the fitness/medic dept. Or even of ETH is he running them too much? Are they not recovering properly after a training session etc

The difference must be the lack of quality replacements within the squad whenever we get a injury to a starting player. If we had the squad depth (quality wise) as the likes of of City, Chelsea and even Arsenal (in some positions), the blow of a new injury would be somewhat softer.

In addition, a more coherse and well-drilled tactical setup would also soften the blow when we had to play the second string in some positions. The drop-off in overall quality of the team would feel smaller I bet.

We're just too vunerable.

I bet that there wouldn't be a massive difference if Citys' left back got injured, and they had to play their second choice or even a youth player. They have a functioning system and every player knows what to do in it.
But with Shaw injured I think it will have a big impact on the field. I know he hasn't been up to pace lately, but he's still very important to us both in defence and offence.

You’re completely right but I was replying to a post saying that we were the only ones with fitness issues whereas almost every big team is suffering muscle injuries and torn ACLs

We’re also infortunate that our starting LB and his cover are both injured at the same time.
To take City’s example, if they had Walker injured in addition to Stones, they’d also have to be playing someone out of position, same as us having to play Dalot LB.

Drop off in quality would be less important than for us but that’s mostly because they have a better collective game than us as you said.

Injuries are just part of the game, and it’s even less surprising giving the gruesome season every team just had, and United in particular who played the most games last season

I'd hope Fernandez gets some time there rather than shoehorning someone else. Would rather dalot was the spare for both positions

Yes the youth team under Harrison and Stiles was amazing with the standards they set. However standards are a problem throughout the entire club. The benchmark is too low.

It used to be that training could be harder than actual PL games at times under fergie. Those standards filtered down to reserves and youth teams.

Now its Man City players who in interviews now say what Roy Keane/Gary Neville used to say when they were players i.e. training can be harder than PL matches.

FFS! They said a number of weeks now it’s months. This always happens to us, it’s always worse than they first thought, we never seem to have player injuries that aren’t as bad as first thought.

I'd love to meet these 'journalists' one day to see what kind of people they are. Samuel Lockhurst seems to have taken over the role that Jamie Jackson used to fill: how can I write headlines and tweets that are the most negative towards Manchester United, and delight in doing so. See also: anyone at ESPN.

It's staggering to think some of these must actually LIKE football and Manchester United.

Would probably work better if you were looking for the CB to step into midfield?
