Luke Shaw out for an extended period with injury

The only miniscule positive of this is at least he can see 2 weeks of it out through the international break.

But I assume Malachia is also out, meaning Dalot out of position v Saka shortly. Brilliant. Although Shaw struggles against Saka unlike against anyone else.

The idea of Sancho as a left wing back against Saka in a couple of games is frightening.
Couldn't have picked anyone worse, Sancho and Eriksen are joint bottom in our team for any thing defensive.

For Forest, we should be able to get away with Dalot there.

For Arsenal, we'll really have to get the formation and performance right. McTom will definitely have to come in, as while he's no defensive colossus, he'll offer more than Eriksen will, and we need more physical presence in there v Rice and Partey.

I don't know why Fred had to go before Scott he was the more useful of the two. Yeah at left back its definitely goes to Dalot now, problem is we are absolutely light at fullback now.

My guess would be that it made more financial sense. Fred was on bigger wages, is a lot older and next season he would be out of contract. And football wise they both have massive limitations.

I think ETH planned to bring in Amrabat as well problem is we can't get anyone out to make it happen. (We are derailing the thread).

So there's a chance we're going to dip into the market for a LB due to Shaw and Malacia being injured? First name discussed with Daley Blind who's just gone to Italy...

What the feck is going on around here?

Yeah but we switch to 451 in defence with Licha as the LB and AWB as the RB.

And put Scott instead of Eriksen vs tougher opponents.
So Sancho will be running horizontal to the other side any time we are out of possession?

No, why?

343 attack phase with AWB and Sancho as fullbacks and 451 defense with Aaron back to RB with 4 in the back and Sancho as a left wing and Bruno as right wing.

Samuel Luckhurst has tweeted out that the injury is worse than they initially thought.

So which of Rashford or Hojlund would be playing the advanced 8 alongside Eriksen?

Marcus of course.
Hojlund out there being a nuisance to opposition CB 's.
So you'll play Rashford as an 8 in defensive phase and you think he'll track runners properly and worst it will be alongside Eriksen who's a bit of a defensive liability. Just so you can accommodate Sancho as a LWB. Sancho who is not direct and plays like a sort of attacking midfielder, OK.

We should be all over Cancelo on loan

Yes the youth team under Harrison and Stiles was amazing with the standards they set. However standards are a problem throughout the entire club. The benchmark is too low.

It used to be that training could be harder than actual PL games at times under fergie. Those standards filtered down to reserves and youth teams.

Now its Man City players who in interviews now say what Roy Keane/Gary Neville used to say when they were players i.e. training can be harder than PL matches.

Tough times -

If that's true we should try to get a LB before summer ends. Can't spend months with just Dalot and no other cover at the fullbacks.

ETH won't play fernandez, he'll only play youth he thinks will be world class. So no O'shea type players for him.

Well, who else would he have on LB, if he's going to bring someone up? Not that I think he will, it'll be Dalot for sure.

Not sure you want Martinez against pacy wingers. Unless you're counting on him absolutely monstering them with a reducer 3mins in and them not coming close again.

Dalot should be ok for a few weeks -- actually it might be more than ok because he's a right footed player playing as the inverted fullback through the middle.

To be fair Dalot did quite well the few games he played Left back last season. He actually looked decent coming forward too. He often came into midfield as an inverted full back when he played at LB.

I would be more comfortable with having Dalot at LB against Saka than I would with Licha. Saka will mostly cut inside which is where having a right footed LB can actually be advantageous to block the passes inside and shots with the favoured foot. Similar to how azpilucueta used to play at LB for Chelsea.

As good as Licha is, he would most likely get smoked by Saka in one v one situations.

I'm expecting "out for the season" next. His injury is getting worse by the hour.

Should have kept fred over mctominay, I think fred could have pulled off the left back position with his tenacity, workrate and decent at winning possession back

Would be very surprised if ETH even considered switching formation due to this. Don't see how it would do us any good either - that doesn't work without strong wing backs, which we have even less than we have adequate cover at Full back.

Also, the widespread argument above that we'd be somehow better off with McTominay in the middle than Eriksen is absurd. We'd just be worse. Eriksen was more than adequate in that role last season, McTominay less than adequate.
