It'll because be wants to go to Chelsea...Or was there more to your post that was insinuated? If he goes to Chelsea after this....I'll be sad? If he goes to Chelsea after this....I'll be mad?

Come on man, don't leave me hanging here.

...it will have been a waste of time. Nothing remarkable or worthy of point scoring. Just regrettable.

I'm not sure where Jamie Jackson gets his reputation as unreliable, probably the fact he's written some articles killing muppet dreams, but I'm not really sure this article is that discouraging on the whole. We saw yesterday that when a journalist gets some serious information that a deal is dead in the water then the language used is pretty emphatic "Van Gaal ends interest" rather than the quite wishy washy tone of this article.

We're no longer favourites but no one else is claimed to have stepped in while also listing the many reasons the other team linked to the player are unlikely to sign him. I'd imagine that a combination of the Evra deal and some whisperings that Shaw mulling it over slowly led to this story. It wouldn't surprise me if a few days from now we've turned that deal around and are favourites again. If he had heard any strong info suggesting we were out of it or someone else was making an attempt then he'd be naming names to maximise the stories impact.

Transfer thread rule number one:

If it sounds like bullshit- it's bullshit.

Your second paragraph, where you've suggested he might have made a story up bevause someone else signed a contract extension, might well explain your first line.

If he's making stories up then he's unreliable. And a liar.

My initial reaction when Van Gaal was appointed was that his reputation would help us with players.

But when you consider Shaw was born in 1995, he prob knows f*ck all about Van Gaal while Mourinho has been one of the biggest names in the game while Shaw was growing up.

I see Skybet have suspended betting on this. He was 1/20 to join the last time I checked. I know betting odds don't mean much but surely with odds as short as those and the fact the market has been removed is a good thing, they can't get it that wrong can they?

Well Mourinho/Van Gaal were probably the managers in the first European final he remembers. The 2010 CL final.

Jamie Jackson with more opportunistic drivel.

Evra renews > Shaw MUST have changed his mind.

Meh, if he goes to Chelsea he goes to Chelsea. I won't be losing any sleep over a left back. Thought we would sign him though, guess the Luiz deal has given Chelsea a load of extra cash.

Odds change depending on how much money the punters put on. When the Luiz deal to PSG was rumoured/confirmed, quite a few people put money on Shaw's next club being Chelsea (when I last looked it went in to 8/1 from 12/1 and I imagine it came in further). I reckon it has been suspended due to the influx of bets on Chelsea.

Am I missing something obvious?

Clubs like any other business play cat and mouse when negotiating.

I'm not sure I'd go as far as saying he made it up. As I said it might be that information plus some other rumours he's hearing which has led him to believe that the progress of the deal has slowed down and then he does his best to work that into something more dramatic. In any case he seems to have been spot on recently and when I was looking through some of his old articles nothing jumped out at me as particularly unreliable.

I stopped following this thread a few days after we made the bid. What has changed since? Is it really off?
if you belive that no news is good news then its on..... other wise logic states thier is some kind of problem.

but the truth is no one knowes, and their has been absolutely nothing substantial since the reports of the bid

He's getting them right though. It's almost as if he waits for Ogden etc to claim something that's wrong and then he goes public with the truth. Happened with Kroos and now Shaw.

Playing devils advocate to every transfer deal he's bound to get a couple right.

It's every bit as likely that the deal for Shaw is already done and won't be announced until after the World Cup.

You can play Football and not be interested in watching Football.

I doubt any professional didn't absolutely love football when they were younger. I don't think you could get near being Pro without a pretty large affection for the game. Once you're a pro, It's a different matter.

How anyone can defend Woodward is beyond me. He's had all season to work on deals and get agreements in place. We knew this summer was going to be improtant and it seems we've done feck all to make sure we get it right.
Targets most likely will have changed since change of managers.

We are in dire need of a left back and he is one of the best around, he is a must buy, simple as.

He had all season to get deals in place for a manager who was sacked at the end of April. We got a new manager 4 days ago and you're complaining that we have no agreements in place already. Things change, our manager changed - he will see the squad in a completely different way to what Moyes did, the players Moyes had lined up may not have been liked by LvG nor may they fit in to his plans/formation ideas. This isn't Woodward's fault, his work started this week, what ever deals were being considered or he had lined up for Moyes may well and truly be completely behind us now.

I'd defend him. None of us have even the faintest clue as to what he has or hasn't done during the season so we're pretty much forced to judge him based on a very sketchy picture of the job he's doing by looking at the results of his work. Obviously last year was not a good summer in terms of bringing in recruits but I'm not sure how we can start criticising him based on this year. The transfer window has yet to open and we've only just appointed a new manager.

With the ridiculous amount of money they're getting for Luiz, I could see Chelsea going in big on Shaw now. :nervous:

A few seemingly have but the likes of Cavani, Reus, Kroos, Shaw, Muller have been linked for a while. In this last week it has suddenly become apparent that none will be arriving.
Papers linking us with names hardly means we're interested in any of the names listed. I'm sure Moyes or LvG have never mentioned any targets.

Evra extending is a) what was always going to happen most likely b) even more incentive to bring in a young player as we keep an old head when needed, unlike Buttner who would never be more useful than Shaw

People are already losing it. What will this place be like in August?

Hopefully relatively nice and calm after United getting some decent signings through the door in the intervening two months, with probably one last "saga" on the go as the window comes to an end.

Alternatively if we've made no signings in all that time, or at least no signings relevant to the gaps in our squad, after last summer's farce... well, there might be blood.
