I'm not sure where Jamie Jackson gets his reputation as unreliable, probably the fact he's written some articles killing muppet dreams, but I'm not really sure this article is that discouraging on the whole. We saw yesterday that when a journalist gets some serious information that a deal is dead in the water then the language used is pretty emphatic "Van Gaal ends interest" rather than the quite wishy washy tone of this article.
We're no longer favourites but no one else is claimed to have stepped in while also listing the many reasons the other team linked to the player are unlikely to sign him. I'd imagine that a combination of the Evra deal and some whisperings that Shaw is mulling it over slowly led to this story. It wouldn't surprise me if a few days from now we've turned that deal around and are favourites again. If he had heard any strong info suggesting we were out of it or someone else was making an attempt then he'd be naming names to maximise the stories impact.
