Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

Worrying if it has stalled, the last thing we want is for this to go on all summer. Pay em what they want and lets move on to other targets we don't have time to piss about this summer.

Unbelievable. The last couple of days with regards to transfers have been bit shit

Very probably but I won't give up on the small hope that you Woodward this deal up and we swoop in with a lorry load of Luiz money.

Not even because we are desperate for a left back, more because it will be funny.

The short sighted ones on here are adding 2+2 together and getting 5. Chelsea have been taking FFP very seriously and the money they got for Mata was used to purchase matic and level off their ledger. The luiz money will go straight atletico - the only question is whether Luis follows Costa.

As for Shaw, as a Chelsea fan, im sure you know Mourinhos thoughts.

The poor lad is stalling, while desperately clinging to the hope that his boyhood club will come & rescue him from Woddy's sweaty clutches.

Don't join the dark side, Luke.

Woodward gets stick but these journalists are a complete joke. Their job in the off-season is pure guesswork. 2 days ago they were all reporting that we had bid £20m for Kroos and agreed personal terms with the deal all but done. All of them ran with that story. Then a mere 24hrs later the narrative switched to van Gaal deciding he doesn't want him/Kroos rejecting us.

They have no clue and probably know as much as us about what we are going to do this summer.

Woodward should (and will) be criticised if he f*cks this window up, but criticising him already is pathetic because it's a mere 2 weeks since the season ended and the transfer window isn't even officially open. Also, we have no idea what deals he has lined up, what deals he is in advanced negotiations in, and no idea what list of targets LvG gave him.

Let's wait and see, it's going to be a long summer. He could miss out on Kroos but land Vidal and Fabregas later in the summer (not saying this will happen before anyone starts). Writing him and this window off as a failure so prematurely is ridiculous though.

Stalled. They write some crap, they know no more than we on here do. I could write the same crap as they do with that if you throw enough Sh1t against a wall, one of the 'exclusives' will stick approach.

We are not gonna see not much transfer activity till after the World Cup IMO

I agree. However I hope that if he fecks this window up he will get stick and no one will come out and say that we're criticizing him out of 'hate.

Of course its only based on what they say but still shit reading about. The Kroos thing seems over, Shaw I still have faith we'll get done but its dragged longer than I thought and thats a worry.

Only if you let yourself believe each new piece of empty speculation they come out with.

Seems to me this new "stalled" line is based on Evra's new contract and Shaw saying he's focussed on the WC ( which is the exact line any professional would and should be using at this time).

If this window is a disaster he will rightly be criticised. My issue is that we're a few months away from being able reach that conclusion but yet people are all ready holding him accountable for the fact that nothing has happened yet despite it only being two weeks after the season ended and not having any idea of where he is in the negotiation process with players/agents. Blame the journalists for feeding us all bullshit that we all lap up then when it doesn't happen we blame Woodward for failing to so something which was probably never even in the pipeline to start with. It's ridiculous.

And Chelsea having a sudden influx of funds.

Jackson is bit of a maverick on this. He's the only who reported Saints rejected our bid and is the only one reporting on the move stalling. He's a clown end of story.

Relax! He'll be ours. The deal has not gone through because maybe his parents have not found a house yet. Local posters are kind enough to lease them their home, aren't you?

Fair enough, it's only been two weeks since the season ended but it's also been two weeks since we've made a bid. That, for me, is very worrying. I don't see why you wouldn't confirm it if it wasn't done, so there must be a problem. We really are pretty shite at transfers lately, aren't we?

Were they? I think it was mostly the Daily Mail and the Express, with maybe some of the joke websites copying them. It was certainly not everywhere, not even near.

I would agree though that people shouldn't have such high expectations of the reporters. Mark Ogden has become a bit of a journalist god here. I do value him highly but at the end of the day a reporter is only as good as his sources. Ogden appears to have his sources at United - good for him. Doesn't mean he knows everything, and when it comes to transfer deals he may only have one side of the story if he doesn't have good sources at the other club or with player/agent. Same for other reporters.

We are suffering divine punishment for trying to be too smart (buying cheap and seeing no value in the market) in the past few years.

Are people really treating everything that reporters come out with as gospel ?? Wan't there a report mentioning that Woy did not want his players doing any tranfer related stuff before the WC ?? If that is the case, then surely the players would have listened to him.

Besides, Jackson is a known bullshitter. Getting one thing right does not change anything.

:lol::lol:

The last few days have been pathetic.

Every reported transfer target has failed.

I miss Gill :(

who knows whats going on....

either way a top signing would start a great summer for us I think

its like that first shag on holiday when you were 18 - the first one is always the hardest

we don't tie a signing up and we start to panic and act desperate

we then either pay way way over the odds and end up with a Fellaini (equivalent of pulling a munter on the last nite)

Plus the window hasn't opened yet. And Southampton are probably waiting on other clubs to work out their funds. They are in no rush.

I thought he wanted it all done before the WC?

I think I'll follow a different path, instead of believing everything the ITK reporters write, let's start believing the Daily Stars and the Express' of this world, it would at least be far more exciting...

Oh my god everyone panic!

Tbh, it's easy to say that none of this means anything, and we're in no better position now than we were before.
However, considering nearly every target that's been repeatedly accredited to us for the last few months has rejected the opportunity to join us, and has been quoted as doing so (with Fabregas perhaps being the exception), or we've been too slow and allowed them to join elsewhere, we're definitely in a worse position.

To be publicly rejected by multiple targets weakens our negotiation position, because when we move on to the next target they will know that we are desperate, thus they can increase the price knowing that if we say no, our list of alternatives and more importantly time to push through a deal decreases.

So while it may not be panic stations right now, I'm failing to see how this is anything but bad news.

- Daily Mail said it was pretty much done
- The Guardian's Jamie Jackson on the 20th May said: "Toni Kroos – Bayern Munich, £30m - The 24-year-old can operate in box-to-box mode, as a No10, or in more metronomic style, prompting the attack from deep: all of which is why Van Gaal and United have identified him as a solution to the perennial issue of the club’s central midfield deficit".
- Then on the 22nd May he wrote: "Louis van Gaal ends Manchester United’s interest in Toni Kroos"
- ESPNs Miguel Delaney
- MEN getting in on the act - we agreed a deal in principle

They all backtracked on Thursday/Friday though.

I still think we'll get him but it shouldn't feel like he'd be doing us a favour signing for us. He's 18 and we're throwing £100k a week at him, why is he even considering his options?

Yeah, he easily signed Sneijder, Hazard and Lucas Moura.

Moura and Hazard chose clubs who were willing to pay them nearly twice as much as we were prepared to pay. They're both on approx 200k a week at 21 years old or so and unproven in the PL we would and should never match that.
He may have not got every target but at least our transfer activity wasn't as widely reported as it is now

If everything was quiet, people would be moaning that Woodward isn't doing anything. He can't win really. Also, wy don't you wait until we near the end of the window before you decide our targets have failed. The truth is we have no idea what is in the pipeline and no evidence that Gill would have lured Kroos or signed Shaw by now either.

And what should Woody do more than he has done for Shaw. We have offered 27m for him and apparently 100k/week wages which will make him the most paid teenager on football. If he/they don't accept the offer it isn't Woodward's fault more than it wasn't Gill's fault for not signing Sneijder.

The offer is already way higher than a fair price. We would be absolute nuts to increase it even more.

And to think people thought not being in the UCL wouldnt affect our the quality of players we could sign...
