The journos have been beyond kind to Moyes. Insane rant.

They really have been. If anything, its been an opportunity for all those previously banned journos to get a shot in at Fergie. "Poisoned chalice", "left behind a weak squad", "got out at the right time" etc etc, like Fergie quietly snuck out the back door of a burning building. Thus far, very little blame has been apportioned to Moyes considering how shit we've been this season. I'm not in the #MoyesOut camp, but he's made quite a few dumb decisions that the press have rather glossed over.

I didnt say all journo's man, but seriously - "beyond kind" - thats not how i & many others see it dude. Do you buy the papers or even gaze at them the day after we've under-performed? Read newspaper websites?? Its been hardcore abuse & many want him to fail because of Fergie - he chose him.. and they hate us more to the point!

I stick by what i said (bar all the swearing of course), Moyesy needs to get tough with the press like Fergie did. They're walkin into Carrington like they own the place at the moment & thats not right.. but that'll change when Moyesy gets a tighter grip on the club!

The papers have been fine to him. They've been kinder than what they could be. AvB's treatment was unfair, Moyes has had normal media treatment.

What about the grief him & Woodward have been gettin since the Summer transfer window then?

"They havent a clue what they're doin" etc. "Missed opportunities's & naive", "Out of their depth...", "Mourinho wouldnt have done that..", "Moyes is a dont lose first manager & is far too negative.."

The list goes on with the negativity regarding Moyes from the press & its only been the past few days that has relented - due to the Mata signing!

Oh don't get me wrong there's been plenty of criticism. I'm just saying I think some of it has been tempered by the strange idea that somehow it's still all Fergie's fault. That also goes along with Moyes having a bit of goodwill from journos on account of his being a generally decent and honest person. I've seen the "trying his best" line more than once, usually attached to a section about how Fergie picking his successor reeks of nepotism and massive ego.

I think Woodward certainly was unilaterally criticized as not having a clue, partially based on what turned out to be inaccurate information regarding the Herrera deal. I think Moyes has had about the level of criticism you'd expect given our performances.

And then we fail to sign whoever he told him we're going to sign. What happens next? Do we have an unhappy player again?

These things always have a good chance of coming unstuck which is as good a reason as any not to be telling your players who you are trying to buy. Its something different to say what kind of positions and profile of players you're looking at, but it would still be something wrong to do this for Wayne Rooney and not other senior players in the team. Captains and former captains for example. Or does Rooney choose who to pass the information on to as well?

Well we don't know this hasn't happened. I'm quite sure Giggsy is involved, Vidic, Evra too probably at some level. Fergie used to confide in his senior players alot namely Giggs, Scholes and Neville where certain team affairs were concerned so I don't see any issue with it. It's highlighted because its Rooney and Man United and thats it. feckwits in the media are acting like its never happened before.

Good post that. I remember Giggsy in an interview telling us that Fergie first confided in players like him and Scholesy if it would be okay for us to sign RVP and you know for it to not cause any locker room complications.

Moyes comes across a good guy & very open to the press, which is why many of them like him

Maybe i'm being a little too defensive (on reflection) & my general gripe is probably the media's hate campaign with United & not particularly Moyesy. He's still had a shit-load of grief, but much worse has been at United than him if i'm honest. Still though, he's the face of United & the players are makin life shit for him. I'm disgusted with the way they've performed this season, but i also think losing the backroom staff was a massive mistake. No-one seemed to know what Phelan did, but Fergie had him around & Rene didnt want to be a number two anymore so he left. You cant lose a technical skills coach & not suffer, and thats what Rene was..

There's been massive changes at the club & Fergie leaving must have hurt the players. I can only imagine how it must have been, being able to say Fergie coaches me everyday & talk about it to your friends & family. He's a God & the fact that he goes to most games as a fan now, speaks volumes. He's one of us & so is Gill too i might add..

The only worry for me when it comes to shaw is that without rio, vidic and evra we don't have any experienced players in defense, for that reason alone Coentrao looks to be the better option.

Set up Fonte's opener against Arsenal with a deep cross and looks like he had a pretty good game overall

Interesting - his crossing isn't something I've seen much of so far. If he can add decent delivery to his game - not necessarily Baines standard but at least reasonable - then he will become a top fullback.

Coentrao isn't really an influential player, or that great defensively either. Him being older wouldn't count for much as he's never came across as a really mature player. He's a good left back, but his main strengths come when he's going forward rather then defensively. There's been a few occasions these last few years where he had stupid tackles resulting in reds because of petulance or what not. We do need experience, but I'd prefer it to come from the center backs and get someone like Shaw at left back.

I caught the Southampton game last night and he was pretty impressive. To be fair, Saints battered Arsenal all over the shop all game, and if they had a decent striker, they would have won.

He's not going to Chelsea, been advised by those close to him it's not the right move. Very likely to end up here... I wont say anymore.....

I don't know why joining Chelsea would be the wrong career choice however. Mourinho seemingly doesn't rate Bertrand and Azpilicueta has displaced Cole as Chelsea's mainstay left back. Shaw could nail down a first team position next year in my opinion.

Mourinho is bringing in lots of young players to Chelsea too. So it's not like he'd be joining a club full of oldies like it would have been a few seasons back.

I dunno. Azpilicuata has been excellent and there are rumours Cole will sign a contract extension

Bertrand is done at Chelsea though.
No chance IMO, Cole is done at Chelsea. He drinks and smokes quite regularly now and loves america. I can see him moving to beckhams LA franchise next summer.

Hey Moyes, you know you will get arrested for breaking a bank?

He's English.
He's 18 - You'd have him for like 15 years.
He's good enough already to be playing for you, and will only get better.

People say that 20m or so is too much for a full back. When it's a special talent like him it would be warranted.

You make to much sense for most on here. Who ever gets Shaw has a great deal on their hands, even if he costs 25-30m. We'd get probably 10+ years out of him and in the end the fee woud look like a bargain. It's really a no brainer.

But, If he had to pick between Chelsea and Man utd (even for a less weekly wage), he would pick Chelsea because he is a Chelsea fan.

But of course, if he doesn't come here everyone would say because we are not in the top 4.
