Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

You'd only get 360 back too, stupid bet.

Shaw's a Chelsea fan & was even apart of their ranks as a teener, so if the rumours are to be believed - thats his first choice in the summer lads!

I wouldn't care one bit about the Chelsea fan thing. Far too much is made of that and the real choice will be made on the basis of which club pays more for him, will pay him more, will convince him that he's going to be an integral part of the side, will convince him the side is going places.

The fact he's a childhood chav fan will come way down the list.

Point taken, but London's a massive draw with players & Chelsea are a world-class side atm - we aint. Southampton wont sell him anyway i feel - not until the summer anyway...

But i would play for Liverpool or Manchester City instead of Manchester United......if they would pay me 1m per season more than Manchester United

Daniel Taylor article suggests that we've been made aware that Shaw prefers Chelsea.

'Mata, in line to make his debut against Cardiff City on Tuesday, is expected to be the only major arrival at Old Trafford in the January window despite their extensive search for new players. United's information is that Luke Shaw, the Southampton left-back, would prefer a move to Chelsea and the club's scouting of Internazionale's Fredy Guarín has left them unsure about exactly how good the midfielder is.'

Shite source but Daily Express says we are set to make a bid in the next 24 hours.

I don't believe a word of that (you wouldn't even do it for Messi). If it were true Man Utd are well fecked.

Yeah, fecked despite the fact that SAF, arguably the greatest manager in the history of the game, also did it on numerous occasions.

You're losing your touch Peter, your wumming was at least funny before, now it's just plain shit.

Eh? Ferguson never did any such shit - he particularly stressed the need to stay in control.

Wayne Rooney was persuaded to change his mind about leavingManchester United after being given the kind of privileged access to the club's spending plans that Sir Alex Ferguson had previously denied him, the Guardian can reveal.

If Rooney is going to sign a new contract he'll want assurances that we're going to spend, we're seventh in the table, it's only natural. Informing him in advance about the Mata deal seems like a way of both showing him we're serious about rebuilding and also showing him how important we think he is. I think it's clever management, it's not like Moyes went to him and asked him who we should sign is it? Mata was always coming, it's just this way we get both Mata and Rooney.

Stop embarrassing yourself. Fergie did it with past captains, not fecking Rooney. You haven't got a clue what you're actually talking about have you?

On a slight tangent, if Rooney stays, I expect him to be club captain after Vidic departs. Whether or not that's next season or not I don't know. Can't say I'd be overly happy with that as I don't think his behaviour over the last few years would merit him getting the armband. But we are a team fairly devoid of leaders. Someone like Jones or Evans may prove themselves as leaders in the coming years but I don't think either is captain material just yet. I like Carrick, but I don't see him rallying the troops like a captain can need to do.

Rooney has been with us 10 years. He is a leader on the pitch. He is a genuine world class player. He plays with drive and passion all the time. He may not be an impeccable candidate, but I do think he's going to get the armband next.

Rooney's 30 next year? I hope his contract is 2-3 years at most.

Just don't think we should spend that much money on left back. Especially one as relatively unproven as Shaw. He has looked reasonably good, but he's very inexperienced and I think too much of this is just 'United need LB - therefore buy best English LB'.

I think we'd be as well served with other options from around Europe, save the 10m 'English inflation' and use that elsewhere.

I think we can get him this month. He is 18 and boyhood Chelsea fan. Obvious plastic fan obvious. Doesn't mean much. The little boy inside him must be screaming other name, Manchester United.

The way we could lineup in the future, with players like Kagawa, Januzaj and Mata in the wide positions, a couple of good left and right backs are important to have. Rafael has our right sorted. So Shaw would really make sense. He's obviously got promise, and the age he is in, even 30m would turn out to be a bargain, similar to how Rooney's and Ferdinand's services throughout the years have justified their massive transfer fees.
