This summer is pretty much going to be like the last for us, isn't it?
Bertrand will be sold in the summer, there's no question about it. He was sent on loan to generate a good fee.
With Cole likely gone, Shaw will find plenty of playing time at Chelsea. Even if Cole signs another one year extension, he'll be a backup.

Aye, 30 is OK for now but you're also entering the age where things can go downhill. Not everyone is a Thuram or Cafu!
As for Bertrand, he's not good enough.
I'm not saying Shaw has more chance of playing at Chelsea than United, because he doesn't. He'd walk into United's team. But by the same token I don't think he'd find it particularly difficult to break into the Chelsea first team within 12 months. If not during his first season then most definitely during his 2nd.
Nope, we're going to spend some serious cash for sure. Whether we manager to spend on our first choice targets is a different matter altogether.
We spent serious cash last summer - Fellaini. We din't manage to get our supposed first choice either.
Shaw is the perfect signing, but there is zero chance he will take what is currently a step sideways and join Moyes' Manchester United.
I think he probably meant Shaw, if he moves, wont move to a second tier team, on the same level as his own - as this is what we seem to be at the moment; he will move to one of the top 4/5 in the league.Oh do piss off.
Even in our crappest season in 20 years we're still ahead of Southampton, in their best season ever.

Well, there's 3 tiers in the EPL.
Top 5 challenging for UCL and league; middle 8 or so in the middle tier, Europa league and safety; and bottom 7 who try to stave of relegation.
Where in the above sentence do we lie this season?
Shaw is the perfect signing, but there is zero chance he will take what is currently a step sideways and join Moyes' Manchester United.
Seriously? How the hell are we a sideways step when we're one of, what, the three biggest clubs in world football? If you're actually serious then that's genuinely one saddest posts I've seen since Moyes took over. One bad season has seriously warped your perspective.
agreed. There is no way we are a side step to southampton, regardless of this season. I mean Southampton...sure they might have one good season..but we have had 20 odd?...there is absolutely no comparison at all...team wise, fan wise, global wise..or goodness knows what else. Even the tea lady is superior....
Apparently, she does a bloody fine cup of Darjeeling; and her Earl Grey...?...Even the tea lady is superior....
He's good enough as a backup which is all they need because Mourinho likes Azpilicueta.
No he isn't. He'll be off in the Summer regardless of signing Shaw IMO.
He's better than Buttner and we use him as backup.
Sweet Jesus! We are shit and I fully expect us to be shit next season too, but saying that United is a sidestep from Soton is stupid.Shaw is the perfect signing, but there is zero chance he will take what is currently a step sideways and join Moyes' Manchester United.

It's justifiable to say Shaw will prefer Chelsea or City, but saying we are a sideway step to Southampton is bonkers. They are having their best season and we are having our worst and we are still above them, FFS.
Why? Bertrand would be fine as a backup to Azpilicueta
Shaw is the perfect signing, but there is zero chance he will take what is currently a step sideways and join Moyes' Manchester United.
Absolutely nothing wrong with Bertrand. Very good player, and has rarely let Chelsea down. Was brilliant under Di Matteo, and if Chelsea were any other club with a different ethos, he wouldn't be going anywhere. Definitely good enough.
If Jose rated him, he wouldn't have sent him on loan halfway through the season, after barely playing him. Bertrand is on his way out, and at 24, he's more than ready to be a starter somewhere else.
"He has a future at Chelsea," said Mourinho. "A future and a past. Of course he has a future.
"The decision to let him go to Villa was good because he's playing and what he needed was to play every game.
"But maybe next season he is with us."
Mourinho on Bertrand
That's hardly a vote of confidence.
I'm fairly confident Bertrand will be sold in the summer.
Pains me to say it but Liverpool is a far more attractive option for Shaw than United at the moment. That's if he hasn't already agreed a deal with Chelsea which I am assuming he has.
I am one of the more positive fans, we still have a great set up that is a great base to build on and continue to grow into the future. However, he can go into a squad that is playing proactive football and playing in the Champions League. I don't know how playing a poor brand of football fighting for a Europa League position is more attractive than that at the moment. Of course, we can get back into the Champions League and I expect to, however nothing is certain and if we continue like this under Moyes (nothing suggests otherwise) and other clubs continue to improve (Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton etc) we are not going to be playing in the Champions League for quite some time. That's not true, you are just thinking negatively due to our depressing season. If we were talking about a 32 year old, who only had 1 or 2 years at the top left, then perhaps there is an argument that Liverpool are a better option. But Luke Shaw is a 17 year old kid, with his whole career in front of him. We are one of the biggest clubs in the world. We are on a totally different level to Liverpool. They are currently a better team than us, but we are a much bigger club, with far greater long term promise.

I agree that he is still so young and has time on his side, so there is no rush and there is no better club for him than United. However, at the moment, I don't see how a player in his position, if given the chance would pick United under Moyes over Liverpool and Rodgers.
