Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

"The Secret Footballer" has posted this in his recent column. I don't know how he knows this, but interesting if true:

Pace!

That's mad considering he's quite built and 6'1'', I heard a few people saying he's Bale 2.0 or the potential to be. Would be a steal at 27m.

It's on lads..

Agreed, it was sunny before. Had a meeting at half 10 which I walked to in the "perfect weather" only to sit in a chair, quietly sweating and disagreeing internally with everything people said.

Nice new angle! Transfer muppetry with the weather report.

Red Cafe have issued the following Muppetry forecast at 1300.

Shaw, Kroos, Carvalho - Good, turning frantic later
Sanchez - Good, occasionally very poor
Robben - Moderate to poor, becoming good force 10 later
Hummels - No change
Reus - Moderate to good, turning very poor later
Fabregas - Force 8 strengthens to force 10, moderate to good, very poor later
Mangala - Rain at first, blue moon later
Lallana - Moderate to poor, turning to occasional RAWK poetry
Cavani - Depression, very poor, turning stormy later

Mental to think Bale, Ox and Walcott got sold for a little under 26 million. Southampton got a wee bit fisted on that I think.

None of them were proven. Weren't they in League 1 and/or the championship for the transfers?

He was the one who got me into shelf stacking at Tesco. I wish Id never listened to him, I have a degree in history, dammit.

Yeah, but Tesco is nice and close to where you live - you get to see all the people you went to school with in there. Any job you'd got utilising your degree would ahve taken you off to some big scary city you'd never been to before.

You shouldnt mock it till youve tried the fish and chips in the Channel Islands. They have a better breed of fish down there. And the batter... If only we had offered to chopper the fish and chips in every day for Le Tissier he might have come to United and we might have dominated English football for decades.

Things are different now though. Shaw will have seen our chopper when we signed Mata, he'll be licking his lips at the prospect of being able to get all his favourite South Coast delicacies delivered right to his door, surely.

Good for a chuckle. :)

Can't see him turning out like Bale. Shaw is a much better LB than Bale ever was. Bale was always very good going forward but a bit of a liability defensively. Shaw is the opposite as he is excellent defensively but not much of a threat going forward.

Le Tisser has advised Shaw to not join United with all the uncertainty surrounding the club. Let's hope he has no sway in these matters.

A guy who attempted to commit betting fraud betting on the time of the first throw in, and then failed with his attempted punt off the pitch :p

Yep, he's never going to be a forward or anything of the sort. He's a LB, end of. Bale always fancied himself as a forward, there's nothing in Shaw's game to indicate that.

struggling to believe the "faster 100m than Walcott/Bale" etc story.... unless it was at an age before those two developed, and before he bulked up.

Walcott is on record as going sub 11 for 100metres....I cannot see that in Shaw. That is blistering

Manchester United are set to return with an improved bid in the region of £30m for Southampton's Luke Shaw once Louis Van Gaal is formally announced as their new manager. The club hope to do this no later than Thursday.

United had a bid of £27m rejected earlier this week by Southampton with the south coast club insistent the 18-year-old is not for sale. However United are convinced the transfer of the left-back is nearing completion with the higher offer to test Southampton's resolve.

As reported by the Guardian, United will make Shaw the highest-paid teenager in domestic football history by offering him a £100,000 a-week salary over five years, with the just-deposed champions set to beat interest from Chelsea and Manchester City for the player's signature.

£30m should be the absolute limit. if they reject that (which they won't), then they can keep him.

When we're bidding so high for very young talent I doubt money is a problem. I will be so happy if we end up spending over 200m.

Yeah 30m should probably be the limit, anything over that is going into silly territory for a full back. Highly talented or not.

Wait, so did Southampton reject our original offer then? Surely they'll accept £30 million if we do end up having to offer that.

We're getting ripped off once again :(

Have we learned nothing from the Fail-aini transfer?

What is there to learn, really? If you really want a player, you have to pay for it. Unless you're willing to walk away and sign someone else.

We're set on Shaw. That's the way it is.

£27m was the absolute limit, for me. Even that was stretching for an 18 year old full back.

Anything over 34 million is a no-no for me.
