Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

Guys this might sound really stupid, but my friend has just met Luke Shaw while shopping.

He asked him if he's coming to united, and his words were "hopefully".

Looks like it's not actually a done deal yet, but he wants to come. It's a good sign right :D
It can happen. Remember that YouTube clip last summer of the Scousers sitting in a car with Baines asking him if he was coming to United and he said he didnt know...

i'd go to 30m but that's it. Southampton aren't going to get that from anyone else. i would also put in a bid for Coentrao just to freak em out a little.

I think we should at least ask the question, even if we then loan him back to them for a season. I think he looks a talent.

BTW, whatever it is they put in the water in Southampton a few years back, can we possibly buy some of that as well?
i read an article a few months back, trying to explain why Southampton had been creating so many good young players.

was summit to do with a change of rule in the 90's limiting catchment areas to clubs, which left Southampton with a big advantage as they have the only serious your academy south of london, while other clubs have to battle one other for the talent in their areas

dunno if this true or not as im not in anyway an expert on young player recuritment and how it works..... but though i'd share

I haven't really followed this story a lot, what's the latest ? Is it done ?
nothing really to report.
lots of the media claimed we bid after the game sunday, neither club has confirmed or denyed it, and thats it.

everything else just rumors

Well we can be relatively positive we have bid but the fact it hasn't been rejected yet can only be good news, right? It's all down to Shaw, if he wants to move or not, which he most likely does I would say. I'm sure we have been talking to Southampton and what they value Shaw at and i'm sure that bid is close to that valuation. No point trying to get a steal out of this cause we simply won't. Most players we will acquire this summer will be overpriced.

Then why a lot of people seem to be convinced that it's done ?
Presumably because it's been constantly reported all season. Doesn't make it any more done but as soon as a few people start buying into it everyone eventually does, I like the optimism though, much better than all the depressing posts about how useless we are at getting transfers done and people leading a revolution against Ed.

i dunno, u'd have to ask them.

all can tell you is their is no evidence anywhere whether things are going well or things are going bad, or even it 100% anything is happening at all.

All we know is that alot of the media said we bid, but nothing else.

It's usually quiet for a few days before anyone knows if the bid has been rejected/accepted/made at all.

it it dosnt go through, i don't think you could blame this one on Woodward, if we did bid 27million, then woodward has doen his job, it would be simply down to the club not wanting to sell or Shaw not wanting to join united.

if we have gone straight in with a 27mil bid, no messing around, what ever happens woodward deserves praise for learning from the mistakes of last year, and been more decisive this year

Oh I agree, I don't think Woodward's to blame at all. £27m is a more than reasonable price for Shaw when taking into consideration that we're paying mostly for potential as opposed to current ability.

Agreed as well. I can't believe how impatient people are being, they're saying we're too slow with our dealings ... we put the bid in for him as soon as the season ended. I think we'll definitely be seeing a few signings here in summer regardless of Shaw which will be entirely down to the good work of Woody.

yeah i agree, either things go at a break neck speed or some times they drag out. im not saying ita bad sign or a good sign, though obviously the longer it goes on (say we havn't heard out this time next week) then it starts to become a bad sign.

I agree, I think Jones can be as well. I should have said "another ball playing cb".

van Gaal's decision would be to either bring in a top CB like Hummels or Garay..(I hope he does this) or promote Will Keane. We need 4 quality CBs. I honestly feel Jones best position is in midfield...but van Gaal will see the potential and have the players play where he wants them.

exciting times.

well we have to hope woody has learned from last summer, where at times he did look a bit silly, flying back from Australia for "urgent transfer business" puting in stupidly low bids for fabregas, and baines.

but if this reported bid is true is seems like he has learnt his leasons, and thier is no doubt the guy is a shrewd business man, he has done wonders with out sponsorship deals(which i don't think he has got enough credit for) and if he can transfer his skills to the transfer market he can be great for the club.

so im happy to chalk last summer up to in experince and give him the benifit of the doubt, but we really need woodward to be the man this summer, as we have no manager in place, and posibbly wont till mid july(or even late july depending on if it Gaal and how well the netherlands do and if Gaal needs a holiday after woulds) so it woodward who is going to have to do most of the transfer work this summer, in possibly the most important summer in united history.

so we have to hope woodward can win all of the doubters over and manage a great summer.

Van Persie won the league for us. I doubt that will be forgotten. He's already up there with the likes of Yorke who always get trotted out by Sky.

I was talking in general and mainly about players playing for their boyhood clubs.

I highly doubt they want Buttner, they have young players coming through and it would be counter productive. Afterall trusting young Shaw worked out

They seem to have had a deal before a 3rd party got involved. Presumably that 3rd party is gone. They have Clyne and Chambers at right back, with Clyne able to play on the left side. Seems like Buttner would be perfect for them. He`s not exactly past it, either.

You're gonna have a long hot summer, it's only been open for 41 hours and most serious business won't be done til after the world cup.

Always remain the same with your negative bollocks Sarni.
Pretty much always right though, at least about midfield. :)

Shaw we'll sign though. Chelsea don't need him that much and they won't be able to afford him either.

How? They have young players coming through and Buttner isn't so good they cant find a young player to do the job. In fact its way more worth it for them to do it ala Shaw

Targett is their next 18 year old left back, on the bench vs Everton

Your friend is lying. I'm out eating tea with him and before that we were at his house. He hasn't been shopping today!

Didn't know you were friends with SolidState.

If the poor love is having to moonlight at Asda to supplement his earnings no wonder he's keen on a move.

Stuff like that becomes way more of a factor than people realize.
