Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

He's like every other journalist then really. I don't trust any of them to be honest.

It's easier to trust them at the moment, for the most part. Woodward has made it so. They actually had to work hard when Sir Alex ran a tight ship.

Why is it that every time there is breaking news, people ask if a certain journalist is reliable?

It is Mark Ogden. How do some fans not know about him by now?

He also broke the news of SAF leaving first. More importantly than any of that though, he's one of the journalists who get briefed by the club on occasion along with Taylor and Ducker.

Obviously no journalist can be 100% relied upon but Ogden is as good as it gets.

It's quite funny really, the introduction of Twitter has witnessed the rise of football writers into some kind of celebrity status. I don't remember them ever being talked about like this in the past.

Yeah I mentioned that but when two journalists are contradicting eachother it's generally best to just wait and see. None of them are extremely reliable so it's just clutching at straws to go with one over the other.

I doubt United would brief that we had a bid rejected anyway.

The deal is agreed. Medical won't happen until after the world cup. Rest assured this is simply the Guardian getting hits, which is dissapointing.

I see you got this off of that @corrienationstr guy on twatter. What other deals did he call in advance in past times ? That is a genuine question to see how reliable he is.

I'm also assuming he is the main reason you believe Reus will come here?

Jamie Jackson seems to have taken over Daniel Taylor's role as the Guardian's United correspondent. I think Taylor was promoted.

Really disappointing if it's been rejected. Can't see us going much higher.

I think they would be mad to reject a £27m bid for a 18 year old. It sucks that big teams buy from smaller teams who are trying to rebuild but thats the nature of football. One way or the other they will lose the player soon. Its in their best interest to get the best deal and I doubt anyone else would offer as much as we are willing.

But if they do reject his, then just bid £15m for someone like Coentrao and call it a day. He is not the best left back in the world but he is around 26-27 and can still definitely do a good job. Buttner can be second choice. He seems to have improved his defensive game this season.

I'd worry if Chelsea and City are sniffing around. They'd gladly pay 30m if So'ton ask for it.
Both have FFP rules to worry about. City have Clichy and Kolarov. Even if they sell one of them, he will be battling with the other for game time. If he comes here, he could start because it looks increasing likely that Evra is also going to leave. Chelsea's LB may be open but again even if Cole leaves, it looks like Cesar will take his place. They might also look for a cheaper alternative.

The same club that refused to pay an extra 2-3m for Herrera? Maybe, but if Chelsea can bid higher, and the player supports that club. Hopefully, they don't enter the race, or if so, the player chooses United regardless of fee/wagers on offer.
Right now we are in desperate mode which means we will be willing to pay a little over the mark for any player we really want. This season has been so shit that everyone in the club will do whatever it takes to get our man and help rebuild.

If City bid more than 30m for him, it'd be an even bigger middle finger to FFP than their current attitude now. Not to mention they have Clichy and Kolarov.

Chelsea have Cesar ready to replace Cole, and by all accounts are heavily linked with Felipe Luis from Atletico as well.

Hopefully we should be in the driver's seat. Woodie needs to get this one tied up ASAP.

Exactly why we wouldn't make the same mistake again.

Herrera wasn't really worth what we bid, let alone the extra that they wanted. Luke Shaw probably is worth our bid

Same club that also later threw in an extra 4m for Fellaini that same day. Desperate times and all that.

Except you don't have a clue either. Stop pretending you're in the loop.

I am starting to think he is Woody. The way he confirms all our targets with such conviction is so like Woody in that finger pointing pic :p

I'm 97% sure that he's ours. There's been too many reports from too many reliable sources to think otherwise. It's been going on for a long time now, so I don't expect it to drag on for much longer.

Why hold back the other 3%? And isn't 97% a strange number. I mean I understand 99% to convey you are almost sure but 97%? :p

We're always like this. Bid accepted, bid not accepted, bid accepted. Why can't we be like City and Chelsea and buy players like we're buying something from a supermarket. :( They rarely have any problems and their bids are magically accepted only moments after they make them and shortly after the player is announced to agreeing a deal.

On the other hand we have to endure a summer of torture.

Our twitter page has even followed Southampton's twitter page now. :( That's like a deal breaker.

Their fans probably deal with the same early and teasing rumours, you just don't notice them as you don't go out of your way to find them.

Coentrao is the better player and also impressed against us

It's idiotic that we aren't going for Coentrao. Shaw may turn out to be a top class LB (I do love his potential)...Coentrao is already there, has at least 5 good years left in him, has played at the highest levels and excelled for both club and country.

So what we have is a far superior player...who will cost half as much. But Shaw is English, so roll on the 30m bid Woody.

I might be wrong but in the case of Herrera, the difference was closer to 10m and not 2-3m.
