Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

Meh, as the article says it's just a bargaining position. He'll go for something around the 30m mark with a chunk of that dependent on performance stuff.

If that's true, I'm surprised - I thought £27m was an excellent offer, more than I was expecting given he's largely potential.

You'd be hoping for the finished article for a left-back over £30m.

If we are willing to make an opening bid of around £27m, then Southampton would surely think they can get a little more. We are probably willing to up our bid so I'm confident that a fee can be agreed. My only worry is that another club will come in for him, even though it would be difficult for another club to justify the fee.

No surprise the first bid has been rejected. Good news is that Shaw seems up for it, while I can't see anyone else coming in for him - City strong in that position, and Chelsea look like focusing on Costa.

Not surprised it's been rejected if that was our first bid, think it's inevitable it'll still happen though.

They know Evra has 1 more season max in him, Buttner is not good enough and they will milk up to the last penny from this situation. I wouldn't be surprised if this goes up to 35m.

Obviously they're reliable but the way he said that it got rejected casually in an article about Rio leaving, could just be wrong maybe? That's the optimistic in me hoping for the best. Nobody on twitter said anything about it being rejected. We'll see.

I would love to see City in for him, you could get 10 years out of him in an ideal world, but I think even we might be priced out of this one.

This morning it was personal terms holding the deal up, tonight Southampton reject the bid.. This lot in the press don't half spout shite.

City is probably the only other club that could justify that fee. I think we would be willing to go up to around £35m, would City be willing to match that, especially with their finances being looked at and I am sure City have bigger names on their radar.

It's weird that nobody tweeted it, not even Jamie Jackson or the guardian, or had a whole article about it, he just casually mentioned it in an article about Rio leaving and left it at that.

Why do all our bids seem to find their way into the public now? We dither about with bids below their valuation whilst Chelsea go out and seal a deal without any fuss.

Seems to be the Woodward Way. Gill liked to keep things close while Woodward appears to be intent on briefing the media at every step. It explains why so often in the last year, major media outlets all have the same stories, with the same details, all coming out at the same time. In some ways, it's good because it limits the amount of misinformation/speculation but I agree that it's entirely too open. The entire universe really should not know about our targets, budgets, and negotiations - it only weakens our stance in the end

It is odd. The whole article is about Rio then hidden in the middle "oh by the way United's bid for Shaw rejected" anyway back to Rio. The other new outlets are reporting almost done deal. Hopefully some clarification on this deal soon.

He's a right yuppie is our Ed. All show.

Leaking stories gives Woodward some leverage when it comes to the slant journalists take, I'd imagine. Might help portray the club in a better light but I'm also certain it helps see Woodward portrayed in a better way as well.

He probably had his hand burnt from all the misinformation during the summer and the Herrera fiasco, so he could just be controlling the narrative by plugging in the sources himself. Not wrong for the curious fan, whether it sheds a bad light on the club is an entirely different issue.

So this story in the media is based on Woodward comments? Because I was told yesterday that it was a leak.

We're always like this. Bid accepted, bid not accepted, bid accepted. Why can't we be like City and Chelsea and buy players like we're buying something from a supermarket. :( They rarely have any problems and their bids are magically accepted only moments after they make them and shortly after the player is announced to agreeing a deal.

On the other hand we have to endure a summer of torture.

Our twitter page has even followed Southampton's twitter page now. :( That's like a deal breaker.

1 not always reliable source says the bid is rejected and it's panic stations.

Mail and Mirror say deal done, multiple others say bid has gone in, 1 says bid rejected.

The deal is agreed. Medical won't happen until after the world cup. Rest assured this is simply the Guardian getting hits, which is dissapointing.

Hasn't the first bid only been reported today? People are massively impatient that days.

I don't know about that. The difference is just that not every single step of their negotiations is going directly to the media.

Some have said this looks to be a done deal, but other than SSN saying we've made a bid, has there been anything else from a solid and reliable source in the meantime? Have Southampton actually accepted the bid?

Contrast with the 'Chelsea have agreed a fee...' regarding Costa.

The hell is going on with Woodward.

For all we know Atletico probably already accepted a bid when Courtois was free to play them in the CL. Or maybe he is even extending his loan with them.

The Guardian didn't even put in their headline, it's a small part of the article about Rio leaving, how are they fishing for hits? I would trust Jamie Jackson over you any day of the week.

How embarrassed are you going to be when he comes back and says "But I am Jamie Jackson!"..:)

I'll be surprised if they have rejected £27m. It's a great price for all parties.

Guardian - Man United have been told by Southampton that Shaw is not for sale

Like when Chelsea bid for Rooney and Modric?
