Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

Southamptons record transfer received is 15m for Oxlade. That was 12m down and 3 in instalments. They really cannot turn this down.

Southampton would be crazy to hold out for more. 27 million pounds makes him the second most expensive fullback of all time, at the age of 18.

They would but I still think they'll want at least £30 million. As long as we get him though I wont really mind how much we pay for him.

Imagine being 18 years old and in one week you're called up to the World Cup squad and signed by Manchester United for £27m! Jesus.

Allegedly he burst into tears when he got his first England call up for a friendly. I can't imagine how he'll react to what could happen this week. He might just spontaneously combust.

BBC has confirmed that we bid 27m for him last night.

We should send Giggs to convince him to sign for us. There's no better tactic to convince a young local talent to turned down the plastic clubs then sending the most decorated player in EPL history who incidently started his united first team career at around Luke shaw age

I'm really happy that we are trying to get our business done quickly. Haven't read through the thread but saw pictures of Gill at St. Mary's yesterday which is no coincidence given that he was also at Stamford Bridge the day before we signed Mata. If we still need him to this extent it suggests to me that Woodward needs replacing, but that's a side story I suppose. I think Shaw will be a good signing, and I don't particularly care about the price.

Exciting times. So looking forward to the summer. :D

Its a pain searching for the link to the SSN post now. What happened to the no more megathreads idea?

I know. Have a strong feeling about it though. We missed out on Bale years ago, this kid has the same potential at the same age. Lets just wait and see, so many English early bloomers have been a let down. Awaiting confirmation by United.
Keep the muppetry under control! :D

Guardian haven't reported it nor do they have anything on their site but Jamie Jackson, a journalist of theirs just tweeted:

He's up there with Ogden for me, been very reliable in the past.

I can't see any negative points over this.

If we can get Shaw and Kroos in the bag before the world cup starts, I may just die and wake up in muppet heaven.

1 day after the season ends.... Silly season begins!! :)

Jokes aside, be a great purchase! Looks like Evra is on his way out now, him and Buttner shows promise for the future!! Get this deal sorted pre world cup!!

I think the last 10 months has been our silly season.

This is serious business now. All the reliable outlets saying the same thing. Luke Shaw as our LB next season? Excellent!

I thought we were going after Shaw, being that he's young, talented and English, plus a CFC fan, but I can't see Chelsea spending anywhere near that kind of money on him.

27m is an insane amount for a fullback, must be said.

I expected a week or so before the summer muppetry began. Not even a day since the season finished and Woody is looking to get some fresh blood in. Lets hope we have learned from last summer! Tighten your seat belts tho lads, this is going to be one insane summer of transfers, both in and out.

I'd be astonished if Southampton accept the first bid, this transfer still has a while in it.

Not forgetting I'd be amazed if Chelsea don't stick their nose in at some point, even if it's just a derisory offer to push the price up for us.

I'm sure it is utter garbage like most of the tabloids.

It depends on the writer, they have Steve Bates who is quite decent and David McDonnell, the guy who wrote it, seems to know someone in the dressing room since he kept leaking team news way before everyone else throughout the season.

Well a few journalists were saying that Moyes laid down the ground work for the Shaw transfer.

I can't say I'd be astonished, 27m is a lot of money for a left back. It's a very good starting offer.

In fairness one is still here and one isn't. It's probably a lot easier to improve when you're the one still in a job.

Yeah, though one did get a lot more opportunity to show little progress. Anyway lets not derail the thread, Shaw should be a good signing and if it does happen, well done to everyone involved.

Yup. A little while after this post, about 10 minutes ago, The Guardian put up their first article about it:

Would appear all the news outlets have the same information, much like they did about the Moyes dismissal and various other United related news throughout the season.

To be fair to Moyes, he has done a few good things off the pitch that will not be forgotten, despite the terrible season result wise.

After last season, how anyone can care about the fee unless it's 100m, I'm not sure...

A top young British talent in a position we need, yes please.

They'll want something in the mid 30's I'd imagine. Especially as we paid 27 for Fellaini
