Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

I think United will walk from any deal that is not completed before the world cup.

It will be a "deal with us now or feck off" scenario. That is why I think they will not mess around with their initial offers. No "insulting" bids this time around.
Let's hope Woodward learned his lesson. Me personally, I think the Mata deal gave him the self confidence that he can complete big deals and as a result, we will see an aggressive United this summer in the transfer market.

He's going to be an absolutely brilliant player. He kind of already is, which is remarkable considering his age. He looks so much older.

Still an outrageous amount of money, unless he explodes into something Bale-esque. 30-40m would get you some of the best attacking players in football just 3-4 years ago.

I guess I have to get used to this.

That's quite a lot of money, still fans should not worry too much about the money being spent as long as its done for the right players.

I hope this is wrapped up soon, that would be very ideal to get him in before the world cup. Hopefully afterwards we can move on to non domestic targets.

It's not that bad of a fee for a young teen prodigy. If another club inquired about our young teen prodigy this summer (Januzaj), I'm sure most of us would expect at least 25 million pounds, maybe even more and rightfully so. He could have the LB position locked down for the next decade. If the scouts feel comfortable enough based on what they've seen that he's worth it, then by all means go for it.

My thing is if you want the player, he's keen on joining and on top of it he's a potential world class player in his position that's English you get the deal done. We've spent the last few years quibbling over £5-10m. IMO I'd rather get 2-3 players of real quality to strengthen the team and overpay versus what happened last summer where we tried to get really cute and put in underwhelming bid after underwhelming bid for both Baines and Fabregas. It's not great business to consistently overpay, but it's even worse to lose out on players you've identified that will improve you because you're unwilling to pony up the cash. We've been very frugal with our finances since 2009 in the transfer market and along with neglecting our midfield it has led to a squad that needs an injection of quality. Let's address it this summer with clear purpose rather than poking around Europe window shopping and coming up short.

Shaw looks like quality and has proven himself to be a very good player, at a young age in a position that we definitely need to address this summer. If the club are willing to pay £30m for him assuming Southampton rejects this initial bid I support that.
Good post. Especially the point about going for only 2-3 players but top quality ones. We're not in Europe so that has actually bought us time to build the team over 3 or 4 transfer windows rather than just the one.

Just look at how much Moura and Marquinhos cost.

If Luke Shaw keeps developing that way then he would be a bargain. 27m for a player who can easily give you 15 years of service is peanuts.

My only concern lie in the word IF. There's were so many full backs whom after an early promise ended up turning into good but not particularly spectacular players.

Once the billionaires came into the game, the cost of players escalated. This is just what it is now.

Hopefully this is the first sign of us getting all th business done in the next few weeks - no feckin about.

Missed yesterday's match but judging from the comments here, seems like he was the best player on the pitch. I saw him against Everton and he completely shut down Seamus Coleman.

This 27m deal has been rumored for a long time, I think this is a done deal.

I struggle to believe that they can get more money then that elsewhere. Maybe there will be more add ons but that's all. Mind I rate Shaw highly. However 27m for an 19 year old left back is great money.

I feel that this deal is done and dusted. We just made the final approach.
Not from elsewhere, from us. We will sign him for around £35m knowing us.

He was very impressive (perhaps knowing he was auditioning for either us or Chelski). He had a very good battle with Adnan and, in my humble opinion, came out on top (by a slim margin).

And remember it's not coming out of your pocket

Think you are right there. Agents and players will host us to hostage this window. Glazers and Woodward know this and we will definitely pay a premium in both fees and wages. The good thing is, to a large extent, we should be able to spend our way out of this without falling foul of the FFP given our massive turnover.

Deal done according to this.

Manchester United have secured the £25million capture of Luke Shaw.

United have reached agreement with Southampton for the signature of the left-back, who has been included in England's World Cup squad.

Personal terms are understood to be a formality between Shaw and United, with the teenager set to treble his wages to £75,000-a-week in a five year deal.

Shaw has made a huge impact since his Saints debut in November 2012, quickly nailing down a regular role and doing enough to earn his senior England debut against Denmark in February.

United have moved quickly to capture his signature. Last July, Shaw signed a five-year contract at St Mary's on his 18th birthday.

Certainly better than the type of fee being suggested for Baines last summer though, at 10years or so older.

£25m??? didn't psg come in and enquiry about a huge bid in January and we told them to do one, rightfully? I wouldn't even look at any offer less then £40m for him. He's not proven yet but he'll become a world class player no doubt. £25m would be an absolute steal for a talent like januzaj these days.

Especially considering the fact that he is young, this is not such a bad deal (wages won't be that much i am guessing ). And every position is important, he can easily add much more to his game to become something like David Alaba which will obviously justify the money spent. Ultimately, he has all the promise and I see valid reasons for splurging the amount of money that is being reported. Ofcourse there is no guarantee, and if things do not turn out to be as expected its just the way it is in sports and transfers, but certainly not a case of mindless spending.

Very excited by the reports and as much as I want him at Old Trafford, I still can't get around the price. I understand that's what any club will have to pay, it's just sad that it has come to these sorts of prices for teenage defenders.

If this is true, it's weird to be signing players without a manager. Who's doing this, Woodward? What does he know about football?

We do have a manager though, he's called Ryan Giggs. Given our left back situation, Shaw is a no brainer imo. And Shaw has been a long term target anyway.

I get your point though, would be worried if we bought in Cavani.

The targets would have been identified by Moyes, our scouts and run past LVG to see if he agrees with the signings. Shaw has been on our radar for a long time.

We must have a list of targets from Moyes' time in charge that would since be discussed by the guys in charge, as well potentially people like Giggs, SAF and still be seen as a viable transfer for the club. It's important we act fast this summer. We can't wait around till our new manager is done with the World Cup or it'll be the same shit next season.

I really doubt Van Gaal would object to us improving the squad, I mean right now the people inside the club know exactly what we are crying out for and we must get those done without fail. I wouldn't be surprised if we get another one or two on top of Shaw before LVG even gets his hands on the squad.

If he signs Shaw then quite a lot. I hope we sign Coleman also and give us that pace energy and drive from full back position what we have lacked this season. (I like Rafael but he needs challenged and is injured a lot also.) I'd imagine Ed is acting on advice of chief scout and running this past our new manager.

Seems like an awful lot of money for a LB, but then again as a lot have pointed out, prices have rocketed over the last few years and given his age, if we have him here for 10+ years, then I guess the price tag won't be that important.

In any case I think he's great and he'll be an immense addition to the team. The LB spot has been a problem for a few years now and it's important for us to stabilize our defence so we can build a balanced team. If Rafael can find his 12/13 form again, our fullback positions will look very good once again.

I remember reading reports, from Daniel Taylor I think, in January, saying that we'd made a big offer for Shaw. However Southampton neither accepted or rejected it and we were happy to leave the offer on the table until they were ready to negotiate.

Nope. PSG offered him ridiculous wages to move there on a Bosman at the end of the season - not quite the same :)

Or if Pogba is to move on this summer you can guarantee he'll be going for £30m+ despite having only played two seasons of top-flight football. Players going for astronomical prices has been happening for decades now so it's a bit late in the day to start getting used to this.
