Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

The thing is I don't think Shaw will be a huge loss to them even if they didn't replace him at all. They already have Clyne who has played very well at left back plenty of times and Calum Chambers has just started to break into the team this season so they essentially have a ready-made replacement right there.

What do you think this means for Evra? Is he likely to stay on for one last season or do you think it'll be a Shaw/Buttner duo?

The indication is that Evra is off. I'd ideally like him to stay for a year or two because we're already losing several senior players and Shaw could learn a lot from him but the suggestion is that he's going to Inter along with Vidic.

I hope this gets sorted before the world cup. I don't want this to drag out like the Fellaini transfer.

I just can't take 3 months of hoping and waiting with countless reports saying we signed him only for another club to announce they signed him up after all that pain. :(

Not the opposite of the type of player Mourinho buys, though. He normally goes for experienced, established players.
That's true, however, why buy an older player and then have to go through this same thing again in a couple of years when you can buy a teenager who grew up supporting your club and idolising Ashley Cole?

Makes too much sense for them. Can't believe they'd give up so easily.

Can't pay £27 for a LB and leave him on bench, he will become first choice. Evra won't want to sit out so will most likely leave, linked with Inter today so might be joining Vidic.

I really want him. I do think the price is excessive but I think potentially he could be the best left back in the world for the next 10-12 years.

And alongside Januzaj, we could have one of the most exciting left sides in the world if the two develop as expected.

I'd be happy to see us offer Evra a one year extension as long as he knows he's no longer first choice. Loves United is a big influence on the dressing room and is a much more capable 2nd choice LB than Buttner.

Porchy's perceived ability within their organization definitely becomes a factor in the negotiations in that a 'lesser' manager would by default be put in a position of Moyesian "can you actually improve us with the 27/200m because we don't think so" and thus there would be a larger question mark over the potential transfer and the future of the club. AKA if they had a crap manager the transfer is a pure financial issue whereas currently the footballing aspect comes more heavily into play.

With Smalling and Valencia on the other side we'll play like we've had a stroke.

Thanks, that's interesting. My oppinion on Evra is based on the fact that he rarely hits a good cross while in good position, while I saw many good crosses from Shaw (not only today of course). Evra is very good at keeping possession though.
Anyway, I'm sure Evra's offensive contribution won't be missed.
That's harsh on evra, his crossing has always been decent at least, but his link up play with anyone in front of him has been probably the best around. Always links up really well to get in attacking positions and has always been a willing runner, as well as performing to a very high standard every single week, and always being fit. We'll miss his link up play but it's and character but it's his defensive lapses that have become more frequent as he's gotten older.

I wouldn't worry about this one dragging, take my comments as you wish, but this has been sorted for a while now. Announcement will be sooner than expected
27 million for a 19 year old? Mind blowing.
26 million on a 18 year old didn't exactly turn out too bad for us

Saint fans on their forum... "we shouldn't accept any offer lower than £30m PLUS Kagawa".. :nono:

Actually, it would be a very shrewd move by them if they got maybe 5-7m plus Kagawa. I very much doubt he'd want to move there though.

Crazy money for a 19 year old but that's football nowadays, gotta pay what we gotta pay...

He has no goals and one assist in 35 games in the league. Is he more a Rafael type in terms of attacking style? I've only watched him two or three times were he was very solid defensively but didn't really do anything in attack.

27 million for a toilet brush. Mind Blowing. 27 million for a top young talent, destined to be one of the best in the world in his position. Probably a good move.

I'd pay for him than that if necessary, 10 years is guaranteed but really it's more like 13-15 years that he will be almost certainly one of the best in the world.

I think he's nailed on for huge success unless for huge injuries, but there are no signs of that so far and that would apply to any player.

Is it that difficult? Us getting rid of Kagawa is a result, especially if we get in someone we need or a decent amount of money for him.

Well I respectfully disagree that what you suggested is a result.

It potentially solves a problem for a decade so well worth it. Hope to God Buttner isnt his understudy.

This deal makes a lot of sense, folks. Can you imagine how much football knowledge he can get from the guy who was Mourinho's and Pep's boss ?

Van Gaal will make an absolute world class out of this kid, who more and more act like an experienced ace. This will benefit both United and England.

Younger squads are LVG's speciality in the road to success. Knowing the guy, we'll probably look more for that kind of talents in this and future transfer windows.
