Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

You mean you told us something that's being reported all year? That's some insight mate.
It's not my story nor do I claim to have broken it, but I have consistently told you about our targets and how realistic they are. This is the first confirmation you need that I'm not some WUM.

IMO well
It was always obvious we were going to bid for him and eventually get him, probably. Nothing is confirmed yet, we just bid the price that everyone was reporting we were going to bid all year.
It's done mate.

I would disagree. I don’t think Evra is that good going forward these days (not a surprise considering how over-used he was in last few years). His crossing is quite poor for a fullback IMO.

Could you post this stats? I’m curious how they go head-to-head.

To be honest the stats I was referring to I'd seen at a glance. Now looking into it, I guess what I'd seen is a little skewed because Evra has the extra CL games, but regardless his are better:
Evra - 3 goals and 5 assists in all competitions.
Shaw - 1 assist (I thought I'd seen it was 2, but seems to be 1 wherever I look)

I stumbled across this as well:

As if Liverpool could afford him and outbid us

And Bayern have a world class one in Alaba and Real have 2 top LB's already. I'm declaring this one in the bag.

Liverpool fans reckon they are signing Moreno, worried he could be a much better deal.

I dislike this "don't care" what players cost, or talking about high transfer fees as if it's buttons.
The crazy thing is they are going to reject it and we are going to offer more.

at least it stops the goons from last summer saying we should smash in with a high offer in the first place.

Southampton must look forward to this summer, they're going to be absolutely pillaged.

I struggle to believe that they can get more money then that elsewhere. Maybe there will be more add ons but that's all. Mind I rate Shaw highly. However 27m for an 19 year old left back is great money.

I feel that this deal is done and dusted. We just made the final approach.

True but they could net almost £60m for Shaw and Lallana, that's an awful lot of money. Add their summers transfer kitty and they could have 80-90m to spend that fecking mad for a club like Southampton.

And you know this how? Far from done in my opinion, the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool are in need of a left back as well and Shaw is supposed to be a big Chelsea fan which won't really help us either. Southampton might refuse to sell or Shaw might simply not be interested in moving to another club this season, this is ignoring the fact we do not have Champions League football this season.. It is possible we get him but certainly far from done, let's hope Woody and Moyes prepared this one well.

Luke Shaw is a done deal.(it pretty much has been for a while).

He was the target we were most likely signing so the muppetry is not as high for me on this one.

My reaction: Good who is next?

Why is that? These things are decided by people who know much more about finances at the club, they are also aware who wants Shaw and what they are ready to offer. We can only speculate.

I really don't understand what's in this for Shaw.

I imagine this might change based on managerial alterations, but it would make more sense for him to stick at Southampton one more year.
Yeah, it's certainly hard to see what's in it for a Southampton player moving to Manchester United.

I grew up with someone who is best mates with a new member of the first team.

I wouldn't mind losing out on a good leftback we paid £15m within 2 or 3 years, if we could sell him for £25m to Real Madrid. I would mind losing out on a player we paid £30m and see him go to Real madrid for £25m.

Besides Beckham fecked off to Madrid just the same, so no guarantees there

I just think £30m for an 18 year old is insane, definitley if it just for the leftback position, nothing is going to change my mind over that. No doubt he'll be a good addition, but with that kind of money we could strenghten us in other positions and bring in more important players.

Shaw is clearly the next english hype and they never ever worked out the way we hoped they would. Smalling and Jones are examples of that, we paid alot of money for them and according to some it was justified because in a couple of years they were going to both be worldclass centrebacks and they would be the new Ferdinand and Terry and we would both have them as replacements for the real Ferdinand and Vidic. We are at that stage now and I don't feel confident about these players, I don't see them as worldclass, I don't think they suffice to lead our backline as first choices, I don't think they were worth as much as we paid for them. They are still rated highly on here, but I guarantee you, most people that aren't United fans laugh their ass off thinking about how much we spend on them so many years ago. They simply failed to live up to their hype, they were overpriced because they were english and Shaw is going to go exactly down that same path, only we'll have paid £10 to £15m more for him, so most people outside United will laugh a bit louder at us for being so stupid to keep falling in the same trap over and over again and not learning. (other examples of english hype, Zaha and Young (perhaps also Powell) here at this club, Downing and Caroll at Liverpool, never has an english player justified his price tag in the Pl the last couple of years).

Read my lips Shaw isn't worth £30m !

Just as well then!;)

Nope.

United would not let this leak if they weren't sure about it. They won't allow any embarrassments like last summer.

However Saints have nothing to lose and all to gain by leaking this sort of information

Yeah, it's certainly hard to see what's in it for a Southampton player moving to Manchester United.

I was wondering that myself. Couldn't for the life of me see why Walcott and Bale moved........where did it all go wrong eh?

Southampton and MUFC twitter accounts have just followed each other. Negotiating transfers through DMs. :nervous:
I've noticed that teams often do that when they're playing each other. Could be nothing more than that.

A lot more money. We had one poor season we are not Sunderland all of a sudden. Even for a young lad like Shaw it would not be that hard to remember the last time United won the title.
