I wouldn't mind losing out on a good leftback we paid £15m within 2 or 3 years, if we could sell him for £25m to Real Madrid. I would mind losing out on a player we paid £30m and see him go to Real madrid for £25m.
Besides Beckham fecked off to Madrid just the same, so no guarantees there
I just think £30m for an 18 year old is insane, definitley if it just for the leftback position, nothing is going to change my mind over that. No doubt he'll be a good addition, but with that kind of money we could strenghten us in other positions and bring in more important players.
Shaw is clearly the next english hype and they never ever worked out the way we hoped they would. Smalling and Jones are examples of that, we paid alot of money for them and according to some it was justified because in a couple of years they were going to both be worldclass centrebacks and they would be the new Ferdinand and Terry and we would both have them as replacements for the real Ferdinand and Vidic. We are at that stage now and I don't feel confident about these players, I don't see them as worldclass, I don't think they suffice to lead our backline as first choices, I don't think they were worth as much as we paid for them. They are still rated highly on here, but I guarantee you, most people that aren't United fans laugh their ass off thinking about how much we spend on them so many years ago. They simply failed to live up to their hype, they were overpriced because they were english and Shaw is going to go exactly down that same path, only we'll have paid £10 to £15m more for him, so most people outside United will laugh a bit louder at us for being so stupid to keep falling in the same trap over and over again and not learning. (other examples of english hype, Zaha and Young (perhaps also Powell) here at this club, Downing and Caroll at Liverpool, never has an english player justified his price tag in the Pl the last couple of years).
Read my lips Shaw isn't worth £30m !
