The Fabregas bids were "public" weren't they? As was the Baines / Fellaini joint bid if I'm not mistaken (Everton published that one, I think.)How many actual public bids were there last summer? Just loads of claims and speculation, mostly.
Not cheap is it...
I really don't understand what's in this for Shaw.
I imagine this might change based on managerial alterations, but it would make more sense for him to stick at Southampton one more year.

Definitely more than usual. Off the top of my head - Fabregas, Baines, Fellaini, Khedeira, Coentrao, De Rossi. All of those were unanimously confirmed by the press, the club or the player himself. That didn't happen during Gill's time.

Sir Bobby Charlton is the last person I would expect to be involved in an official bid for a player. It was our last game of the season so pretty far from pointless.I thought it was a long trip for Sir Bobby and Woody to be making for a rather pointless game.
It's perfect timing with United needing a new first choice left back; he won't be moving with a chance of just sitting on the bench. A year down the line, all the top teams in England might just be happy with their left backs.
With Evra in all likelihood leaving, the timing is perfect for Shaw. It's his chance to nail down a spot in the starting 11 at what will certainly be a top club both domestically and likely in Europe throughout his entire career.I really don't understand what's in this for Shaw.

I took the liberty of putting that in the title for muppetary reasons.
I love how this comes out now, as if United used the fact they were down in Southampton to put a bid in.
Thank feck we weren't playing West Brom last game of the season then.
For a player of his potential, we shouldn't be worried about shelling out extra 5M than what we valued him at to beat our rivals off. Fellaini on the other hand though.... well it was a shocker, we just have to accept and move on.So Southampton will decline, Chelsea will make a counter bid.
how much will we end up shelling out for him?
I think it will be about 31 million + add ons.
United face Southampton at St Mary's with a £27 million bid then expected to be lodged for 18-year-old left back Luke Shaw as Evra's replacement. United are confident that they will beat off interest from Chelsea, who are now pursuing Atlético Madrid's Filipe Luis, to sign Shaw.
Got to feel for Southampton. Hasn't even been 24 hours since the Premiership season has ended and they've already received bids for both Lallana and Shaw.
