Honestly is £30mil that crazy nowadays? The idea of having him and Rafael flanking is orgasmic.

I wouldn't mind losing out on a good leftback we paid £15m within 2 or 3 years, if we could sell him for £25m to Real Madrid. I would mind losing out on a player we paid £30m and see him go to Real madrid for £25m.

Besides Beckham fecked off to Madrid just the same, so no guarantees there
Except we obviously wouldn't sell him at a loss. If he becomes world class he'd obviously go for much more than that.

Why do some fans get so worked up about fees? If the club sanction it and feel they can afford it then why does it matter? I'd be gutted if we sold a top left back to Madrid, regardless of whether or not we made money on our original investment.

Imagine him + Januzaj/new winger down the left.
It would be awesome.

£20m and £30m is a big difference...

Doesn't matter that Wolfsburg qualified for Europe, they aren't in the CL and if you look at the kind of players they buy and the amounts of money that surround this club, they would be in no position to turn down good bids for Rodriguez. Wolfsbrug may not need to sell him, but if Rodriguez can make the move to United, he'll ask for a transfer and a fair fee will be in the region of £15-£20m. That is a big difference with the £30m we'd have to pay for Shaw. Not to mention the difference in wages.

Yeah, I'm not doubting there's a big difference in £15m & £30m, I'm saying neither of them would cost that up front. No idea what you're on about in regard to the players they buy considering they spent around €20m each on Gustavo & De Bruyne this season, the former being on over 100k a week, they can and will spend money. They can afford to pay wages if they want to, they have strong financial backing, if they want to keep him and he doesn't want to move then he'll stay.

With the proposed level of investment this summer, I'd hate to end up like City and form a side with minimal English players. Top English talents are few and far between nowadays and as a fan I'm really not arsed about a premium of about 10m if the club sanction it and it means securing a top young player in a position we desperately need one.

I have the same sentiments.

Let's see, based on current ability I'd say he's worth £15 million.

Factor in:
His age +£5million
His potential +£5million
English premium tax + £5million

Yeah I'd say £30million is about right.

You'd happily see us spend £120m on this kid then, presumably? As long as he turns out a good player, of course.

...do you believe a properly run business will pay over for any service or good?

none of us here knows the ins and out of how the club is actually run. Sometimes mistakes are made..Fellani?

whatever figure you come out with as being 'reasonable' would merely be your own opinion.

There's something about this kid that makes me think he will be a top top player (I have the same feeling about Januzaj, but not about Zaha for example). I said it before, I'm not concerned about the fee/wages, I want him badly.

And what a likely event that is, you must be fraught with concern.

I'am just saying if we pay £30m for him now, we'll likely never see a decent return on the guy in case he wants a move. He could sign a 5 year deal, be with us until he is21- 22, having seen him devlop as a player, with up and downs in the first 2 years and when he really starts to look like the real deal in his 3th- 4th year decide to feck us over and chose for a move to Real Madrid or even worse Chelsea or City (especially if we'll have some troubled times). We'll likley never see a decent return, best case maybay £35m or £40m if he really is the best around by then and most likley it will be less than that ( clubs just never pay silly amounts of money for defensive backs). That is one of the best case scenario's were he actually lives up to his hype (because bascially he has to live up to his hype before he becomes a £30m worth player, he isn't there yet). There are many scenarios thinkable were it could go alot worse, like Shaw just fialing to live up to his hype and becoming the next one in the series of failed overhyped english players that will be flushed out in good time for a big loss.

Not that it will hurt this club too much, but it is simply not wise, not if you can buy equally good players for half the price and use the money to invest in areas were it is more required. We don't need a £30m injection for the leftback, £15m could just suit us fine to replace Evra and use the other £15m to spend further on the midfield. It is not like we got so much money and such a great team we wouldn't know how to spend it all.

I just don't see why 30m is that big of a deal.
Yes it is a lot of money, but 10 or so years ago, we paid 30m for Rio Ferdinand, and looking back, that was great business. 30m today is like 15m back then.

He's probably not a 30m player, but at 18, an established premier league, future star, who is also English, thats the price you have to pay

If we can get him, we should absolutely do it, in my opinion. As many have pointed out, he could fill our left back position for the next 10-12 years. I'd rather pay £30 million for Shaw, who we have a good idea will turn into a success than spend £15 million on a foreign gamble in their mid twenties, who may or may not adapt to the Premier League, and who we may end up replacing in a shorter time frame anyway.

Quite frankly, we're not in a position where we can mess about now anyway. We need quality and other Clubs know it, so we're probably going to end up paying more for players than we normally would this summer.

But I wouldn't be happy if Shaw went to Chelsea or Liverpool, fulfilled his potential, and nailed down their left back position for years on end because we were haggling over a couple of million quid. This summer is not the time for regrets. We can't afford anything near a repeat of this season. For me, we should get the deal done as soon as possible and then move on to the other targets.

You have no idea what our budget is, what other players we have lined up and for how much. Spending an extra £10m on Shaw compared to another left-back with potential isn't going to make or break our summer. He's the player we've identified, we're confident of his ability and we have the money. He's not going to behave like a 12 year old with Graeme Le Saux posters on his wall when his contract runs down in his mid twenties.

Brilliant fullback - he's ridiculously fast also. I didn't think he was this fast, but he made Smalling look stationary at times. However, if we had a better ref, he would have caused quite a few free kicks and penalty. He uses his arms far too much for my liking, but that should be easy to iron out. He should definitely be a target in the summer - exactly the kind of player United need.

You forgot the United tax. Chelsea would get him for £5m less.

Britsh, probably greatest talent in his position, 10-15 years of service. Just get it done.

Sky saying we have made a bid...

£27 million.

Absolutely. If he's available, we have to do everything we can to get him. It's a position we need to fill anyway so if we don't get Shaw then we're gonna have to spend on someone so really not worried about the apparent 30m fee. English and young with huge potential but could already slot straight into the first team. There are no drawbacks here.

Are all our bids going to go public again just like last summer? I preferred it when we didn't have a clue what was going on.

Hope the talks have been done and this is wrapped up quickly.
I hate transfers that drag on
