Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

It's public knowledge that Southampton desperately need the money right? It could well be them that's planting the Lallana links.

Too much money IMO. The inflated price of English players is an absolute joke. I don't believe there's not another LB in Europe thats not equal to him.

At 18, English and the increased loyalty that would bring. Lets face it, DDG might not be with us much longer and for me thats what you get with buying Europe's best young talent....not even their best years.

Just remember how we haven't seen the best out of his 2 tranfers, or many of the squad this year.

The whole idea that we needed huge surgery to win with Moyes was because of underachieving with a good squad.
A good manager does the opposite, maximises what you have.

I am not defending him, i would just find it bizarre if we ended up with the players i have listed from based on his ground work or we would have got those players if had stayed.

He looks very happy here, even after this shambles of a season. I honestly can't see him going anywhere anytime soon, especially if we now bring in a top class manager.

Very worrying to be linked with Lallana as well

I like Lallana and do think he's good enough for us. We just don't need him at all, because we've got Mata, Januzaj and Kagawa who are similar players i.e creative attacking midfielders without pace.

What we need is a speed merchent with technical ability who score goals and can stretch the play. We need a Reus or Lucas not another player like Lallana.

It would be mental if we blew £50-60m on Lallana and Shaw.

Agreed. It would remind me of when we got Ashley Young. We didnt need him and he was too expensive. Lallana would be similar but I expect he'd perform a level or two better than Young has

The price is steep but he fits in with our traditions of getting the best British talent a lot of the time, and if he becomes as good as I think he can be and stays with us for the bulk of his career it will actually seem an astute investment in time.

Definitely, unless Kagawa is going I don't see why we'd want Lallana even though I do rate him a lot higher than many here seem to.

Lallana for £25m? Hell fecking no! He is a good player but he aint going to start over the likes of Rooney, Mata and Kagawa. Also Januzaj is a better prospect so we should just give him more opportunities especially with us being out of Europe next season, games are going to be hard to come by.

If we want to be competing with the Bayerns and Madrids of the work, then Lallana is definitely not good enough for us.

If the height of our ambition is top 4, then yeah, sure.

I'd be happy with Shaw but not Lallana. Ward-Prowse is the only other Southampton player I reckon would be good enough, maybe Schneiderlin at a stretch but definitely not Lallana.

Shaws one of those players that you just have to go for though.

Tend to agree with this. Going for Shaw makes absolute sense as any big transfer fee would be more than paid back through 10-15 years of top level service.

Nuts magazine in its current guise is as real as his sources.

Lets face it, DDG might not be with us much longer .

Can't see why that would be the case. Unless Barca go all out for him this summer (and it isn't looking like they will), the only other club who could lure him are Atletico, and they lack the finances.

And so long as Mata and Hernandez are around he'll be fine here from a social point of view.

Anyone else reckon Lalanna was a Moyes target that we probably won't follow up on now.

I think hes a good player just don't see how we need him.

I don't want Lallana, he is not good enough. Shaw and Schneiderlin for 40 would be great.

Schneiderlin is one of the most underrated midfielders in the PL, maybe because his some of his strenghts it similar to Carricks, positioning, smartness, quick and simple passing (great all round passer though).

He was not the type of player Moyes wanted I think, not close to being good enough. We have probably watched him, but I think we never have been in for him.

Hopefully we don't go for him, if we go for another attacker i would prefer someone more direct with pace.

Didn't he openly come out and say something about how it was his 'dancing feet' that got him to professional level, and that he never had pace?

I don't want Schneiderlin. We have too many midfielders of a similar standard already. We need to sign either one or two first team midfielders. Carvalho and one other looks a step in the right direction.

If we can get Luke Shaw then he would good replacement for Evra.

We really dont have any central midfielders of Scneiderlin's standard with Carrick's form this season. Carrick of last season yes.

I think Schneiderlin's a similar level to Fellaini, Fletcher of now and Cleverley(admittedly very much off form this season). Carrick's been a disappointment this season but I still think he's a better player than Schneiderlin.

Carrick of last season was a standard higher than Schneiderlin.

People might disagree with that but either way, I want United to be after the best they can get this summer in central midfield and not stocking up with squad players there.

Unbelievable. Wenger calls him a top midfielder, you say hes as bad as Cleverley. I wonder whos right

Disagree with the Schneiderlin comments. He's definitely above the standard of every central midfielder in our team this season, easily. And when Carrick is in form, he's certainly at his level. Definitely above the standards of Fletcher/Fellaini etc...

I can see why Schneiderlin and the likes of Fletcher, Fellaini is debatable but it's way to strong to say an "on form" Carrick is on Schneiderlin's level. On an on form Carrick was in the top six for POTY last season, Schneiderlin's best so far has to be a competent performer in a mid table side. Carrick's the proven commodity, not the other way around.

Schneiderlin is easily one of the Top 3 hybrid box to box/ defensive midfielders in the entire league. To compare him with Cleverley or present day's Fletcher is doing him a great disservice. Reading some of the comments looks like he's getting the "Cabaye Treatment" where a player gets under-rated because he's not playing for a Top 4 team or isn't glamorous enough. Plenty of people were opposed to Cabaye too who was viewed as only minor improvement when infact he's slotted into PSG's highly rated midfield of Verratti, Matuidi, Motta and Rabiot. Schneiderlin would be a very good improvement to our midfield as a starter alongside a more creative guy of 3rd choice CM incase we get 2 new CMs. TBF comparing Carrick and Morgan is like comparing apples and oranges. Two entirely different set of players with entirely different playing styles. He's nothing like Carrick - he's extremely mobile, tremendous work-rate/ pressing abilty and he's not a fairly static deep lying playmaker like Carrick despite being a proficient passer himself. He's more akin to the Bender brothers or a slightly lesser version of Fernandinho. Our team has been crying out for a player like this since Hargreaves got injured. Purely as a central midfielder he's way beyond Fellaini or Cleverley and is just 23 years old. 40 million for Shaw + Morgan would be exceptional value.

Has their transfer ban been upheld?

I would not say it's unbelievable. Would you like to link to Wenger's comments, rather than getting into a one liner on Wenger and thinking that ends the debate.

Cleverley's been heralded as a top prospect by Martinez and Eric Harrison as well and being talked up by Fergie if you want to get tit for tat on coach opinion and been a part of a side that has won things, not that I think that it stands for much given the season he has had. He has had a disappointing season and really struggled this season.

I'm not saying that I think Cleverley's better but I don't think Schneiderlin's so proven and well developed that he as good as some of these comments suggests and I have watched quite a bit of Southampton since their excellent start to the season,

I agree with Ole. Schneiderlin would not improve this side enough to warrant us making a huge bid for him. His passing range seems limited and commits too many fouls for my liking.
