I won't go to bed today. I don't want this to end. WE WANT MESSI! WE WANT RONALDO! SIGN ALL THE PLAYERS! FECK THE POLICE! MORE BANS FOR SUAREZ!

Torn on this one. Initially I thought it was steep but you're potentially getting a lot of years of service plus the English factor which is usually a boost but then you look at someone like Evra/Rafael, signed for not much and one of them has given us great service and the other could well do the same for the next ten years and both were more proven than him. I mean he's not been tested at CL at all. Tough one but guess as long as we've got cash to strengthen other areas as well then not really an issue.
I'm a bit disappointed that we went that high. You really don't need to spend 34 million in order to get a good left-back, as evidenced by Evra. We could probably have bought Moreno for around 20 million. He's 21 years old and arguably a better player.

Would be a good bit of business. There's always a risk but if there's a great English talent coming through, we should always be interested. The price doesn't really matter. This value talk didn't really work. Value in the market is a small time mentality. Got to be pleased.

Vidal is one of the best midfielders in the world though, no way would he fail. Shaw is only 18 so you never know if he might get too cocky and think he's made it with the price and wages, though I don't think that'll be a big problem.
I know that I was trying to make a point to Suli. He kept putting down our transfers saying it was too much for average players.

That thought has gone through my mind before TBH

But to hell with it, Woody deserves at updated version of the Ozil GIF

Olly you are a gem...

The transfer window has been inflated for years and people know we're desperate. Look at William Carvalho, one good season in the Portuguese league and prices of £35mill are being throw about regarding his name.

Not Carvalho's fault that Sporting have a rediculous buy-out clause in his contract. Sure most of the Portuguese & Spanish league players have brain-dead clauses inserted by their clubs.

Incidently, as regards to Carvalho - he may have just had a massive break-through last season at Sporting, but he won player of the month 4 times out of 9 in that season & thats for a player regarded by many on here, as being average & limited..

I much prefer box-to-box CM's anyway, but i'd love a player of Carvalho's ilk for that bitta steel & for tactical formations to combat the other team. He's a much better player than many give him credit for..

£20m is about right for Carvalho & even then - it could be too much if he has a stinker of season next. Definitely not £35m ffs!

Yeah but then I guess you look at Ferdinand who whilst more established was very expensive for a defender. With full backs playing an increasingly important role in the game then maybe whilst it's ott, if it works out you could justify it. I don't doubt though that there are a number of cheaper players out there who could have done a good if not as potentially great job for much less but suppose you've got to take risks. So long as we're not wiping out the budget as we've got a fair few other places to strengthen.

Different situation, we had Keane and Scholes, hard for any midfielder to break into that midfield properly. Now Vidal would have to compete with Fellaini and Carrick to go next to Herrera.

in fairness veron was given plenty of chances. Scholes as well was pushed more forward to accomodate him. He couldnt deal with the PL

Woodward goes from most hated man in Manchester to being given the key to the city all in space of one day.
Yep, I was one of the bad ones. Was at work today had 3G on my phone and was reading that our bid had been rejected. I was fecking fuming, spitting feathers I was. Didn't have 3G for nearly an hour (a long time to be angry) then checked when I had signal and saw it was all going through (Herrera)

Been at work since 3, so I've only been able to check now and again. I think it's safe to say 26/06/14 has been a good day in the history of Manchester United FC.

The £30m fee if it's that, is still a bit disconcerting, but if the club has agreed so pay it, who cares now really?

The amount of hate has always been borderline idiotic.

Who cares about the transfer fee? This is the mentality we need to show in today's market. If we want a player, we have to pay whatever it takes to get him and we're showing it since the Mata transfer. If we acted like this a few years ago, we would most likely have at least 2 of Nasri, Lucas and Hazard in our team. The money we lose when we lose out on our top transfers and do badly in the league is much more expensive than paying over the odds for players. Woodward, the owners and our manager is showing clear intent at improving the team and we should totally delighted about it.

Ferguson was an admirer, Jose was heavily rumoured to be interested and van Gaal has sanctioned to make him the world's most expensive left-back. I don't think it's as big a risk as it would seem looking at his age and price tag. I don't think we're going out on a whim here.

He's shown enough over 2 seasons in the top league that he's almost certain to make it. I don't see a risk at all (excluding big injuries which could happen to anyone).

I've started to think over recent years that pretty much all defenders can reach a high level if they've shown decent promise when younger. So much of it as about the teams organization and their ability to read a game and make decisions that I don't see great risk in them aslong as they get given the game time.

Juan. Sebastian. Veron.
Totally different player.

Vidal is pretty much the most complete midfielder nowadays. Great determination, engine, drive, technique, playmaking abilities.

Apart from Messi and Ronaldo, I can't thing of anyone else I'd like to see we sign.

It's an excellent signing. If it works out you've got the position with the fewest good players boxed off for a decade. If Shaw improves on his attacking game he'll be brilliant.

Juan. Sebastian. Veron.

Vidals style of play is much more suited to the Prem than Veron's was.

If you think about - the Prem is made for Vidal's style & he'd be a fool if he didnt want cup finals every week playin in England. What better place to ply his trade than at United - a team thats just fallen from grace & is angry as hell about that. Now thats a challenge for any player that loves a battle!
