How do we anyone will be good when we buy them? Even if you have proven yourself in the same league, doesn't mean you are going to be a success if you move to another team.
The relative risk is much lower than spending £30 million on an 18 year old who hasn't even performed at the highest level yet.

That thought has gone through my mind before TBH

But to hell with it, Woody deserves at updated version of the Ozil GIF

Olly that's fantastic.

Could be sorted, that's a big risk. He's not worth £20 million at the moment, the price tag is only because he's for the future, but how do we know he'll even be that good?

I disagree, I think this lad has got great talent. Its a risk to sign any player whether they are established or not. The beauty of Shaw with his age that even if he was to leave us at some point he'll be young enough to still command a decent fee.

As I expressed earlier my disapproval to paying more than the first reported bid of 28m its still a risk but one that can turn out to be a bargain of course.

£30m/15 years = 2 million a year. I'd happily pay 4 million a year (excluding wages) for the service of someone as good or better than Evra was over his period here.

Are you always a god damn negative nancy? There is no pleasing you is there? Will you be happy if we spent £40m to get Vidal?

So you would be fine if we spent £100 million on Heskey tomorrow? Of course the money matters, we don't have an unlimited budget so should be spending wisely and properly. I'm worried that Shaw is a risk, hoping he will provide a service to us for the next 15 years at a high level. Big risk.

Spending 30 million on a 18 year old who could quite possibly give us 10+ years is not a risk. He's a talented boy and they don't usually come come cheap do they.

It'll still be a loss though, don't you think?

I wouldn't care if we spent £60 million on Vidal because I know he's class, I'm just a bit worried about Shaw. Trust me I am happy about the signings but I do worry we are spending more than is necessary.

No, I'm just worried that the price is a lot. We haven't even signed him yet ffs.
He's overpriced, sure, but Southampton have no reason to sell. I was on the fence before but he's already top class, worth £20-25m easy, and we've been stingy previously and lost out. It's a good day to be a United fan. In your own words, don't be that guy. Not on Herrera Day.

It's a lot or money for an 18 year old but not for one who looks as promising as him so yeah that's exactly the way to look at it. Left back potentially sorted for 15 years, it's worth the risk. Delighted we are managing to pull it off, really quite surprised Chelsea didn't swoop in to try to mess things up for us, they do love doing that.

Thats...kind of how transfers work mate.

I guess you're right, here's hoping he actually signs! :)

Ye, that extra couple million of not your money, I'd disapprove too.

One or two Soton fans seem to think he'll be benched for the majority of the season.

Who do we think will start? Shaw or Evra?

Does it put £15 million more on the price when he's not proven that he could perform at the top level?
In this case....yeah. He did grand in the Prem last season, and had a good breakthrough season. His performances reflect an improvement. He may not be worth 30 mil to us, but to Southampton I'm sure he may well be. In reality, he's worth what we're willing to pay. We're willing to pay 30, thats his worth.

So what makes you so sure Vidal will succeed here? If you don't think Shaw or Herrera might be good signings how are so sure about Vidal? Just because you are successful for one team doesn't mean you are going to be good for another. Ask Torres, Shevchenko, Veron, Fellaini etc.

For those who have doubts, who are the better LBs in the PL, defensively ? For me Shaw is already one of them.

Torres and Fellaini were both premier league proven too.

I don't know, I guess the relative risk is lower. Let's just agree to disagree, you're mostly right and I'm just being a bit nervous about it when I shouldn't really be.

If our own dam fault we're in this mess, we didn't strengthen when needed. Manchester United would not pay and risk £30m on an 18yo of they didn't think he was 100% worth it. You know what were like with transfers, we fanny about making sure everything is perfect for us.

I have no doubt what so ever that Luke Shaw will be a fantastic player for us for at least 15 years

The transfer window has been inflated for years and people know we're desperate. Look at William Carvalho, one good season in the Portuguese league and prices of £35mill are being throw about regarding his name.

Shaw should start most of the games, but Evra should play a few of the big games. No CL football to contend with means that shaw should get 65%, Evra getting 35% of the games.

Guys can we get back to green smilies, you guys have shown me for the fool I am.

Okay thanks.

Probably about right, although I'd give Shaw slightly more, 70/30 split.

I told you not to get out of general forum. See, now everyone knows you are a fool.
