Hopefully Shaw becomes first choice LB. Evra gets relegated to Buttner.

Member from another forum(Croatian forum about football in general) who is Lovren's friend(confirmed) said he just talked to Lovren and Lovren told him Shaw is United's player, but he is not sure if it's 28 mil pounds or Euros, probably pounds. Could be that Lovren is missinformed, but I doubt he would be telling him if he isn't sure.

Btw before you call me ITK, I am not transfer muppet as many could notice.

Now the part two, Lovren actually showed them on the phone message he got from Shaw, and said he denied both Chelsea and City because he wanted to play for United.

Shaw on the left wing with Evra at left back? If we ever have injury problems I wouldn't mind seeing that.

I'm glad we're splashing the cash. Whilst Herrera and Shaw are yet to be shown as top class performers, they're both close and they're both young. These are the sorts of signings we'd have made a few years back. Young, hungry, huge potential, already impressive talent.

As much as we took the piss out of Citeh and Chelski for their 'projects', it's clear modern players are interested in them and you can get that snowball effect when you start signing good players for big bucks.

Please not again! One was enough. :-)

Well if we were ever to see anything like that it would have to be the other way round. I don't see much point in it though to be honest.

This signing is an even better one than the Herrera one. The amount of goals we conceded from the left side last season really hampered us. Just one really important thing...please don't get injured.

He already got a good built. Maybe not as ripped as Smalling but he's both strong and incredibly fast.

With LVG's training methods and Evra's guiding his progress he should have a good start without overtraining and things like that.

I don't think he's worth 30M.

We always seem to over pay, but then again.. we needed a LB and Coentrao looks like hes staying in Madrid.

Agree with that - apart from your seeming desire to have Coentrao instead?!

We're paying for his world-class potential & its worked well for us in the past. Shaw's already been touted by many as one of the best LB's in Europe & he's still not 19 yet.

No-one likes to be rode by clubs like Southampton - especially given that they wouldnt sell us Bale (at any price) because Rupert Lowe etc. hated us, so it does my head in that we're paying way over the odds for a 18 year old LB.

If the rumours are true that Southampton rediculously valued him at £40m & wouldnt sell for any less - then i wanted United to walk away. F*ck payin that shit & f*ck Southampton's delusions of grandeur more importantly..

But if the fee is £30m + add-ons raising to £34m - then fine, i can stomach that!

Negativity from some about this and I can't fathom why.

He's worth what clubs are willing to pay. If were paying that for him we evidently think he's worth it.

How anyone can put a negative spin on the club signing arguably one if the world's best young defenders I'll never know.

The money side of it is bizarre. You might spend £15 - £20 million on a left back in his prime who's 6 or 7 years older - then potentially have to do the same again when he's past it or moves on. That assumes you find a player of sufficient quality and don't buy the wrong player.

The fact is for a club with the turnover of United, spending this sort of money isn't a big deal. It won't ruin the club if it doesn't work out so I don't see what the fuss is all about.

A full-back often does the job of a winger these days anyway. I don't see the need to specifically put him there.

Shaw and Rafael as wing backs in a 5-3-2?

Really is an awful lot of money for a left-back. I guess we'll just have to trust that the club know what they're doing and that the money is there. Hope it doesn't mean we won't be able to buy another player for the next few years. Now for a CB and a CM/winger and I'd be happy.

So what makes you so sure Vidal will succeed here? If you don't think Shaw or Herrera might be good signings how are so sure about Vidal? Just because you are successful for one team doesn't mean you are going to be good for another. Ask Torres, Shevchenko, Veron, Fellaini etc.
Vidal is one of the best midfielders in the world though, no way would he fail. Shaw is only 18 so you never know if he might get too cocky and think he's made it with the price and wages, though I don't think that'll be a big problem.

Or buy him for 30 mill signs for 5 years then leaves on a free to join his boyhood idols!
Doesn't sound such a good deal then, does it.
For the fee United can do much better.
That can't happen as he'd still be under 24 we'd still be due a fee.

Torn on this one. Initially I thought it was steep but you're potentially getting a lot of years of service plus the English factor which is usually a boost but then you look at someone like Evra/Rafael, signed for not much and one of them has given us great service and the other could well do the same for the next ten years and both were more proven than him. I mean he's not been tested at CL at all. Tough one but guess as long as we've got cash to strengthen other areas as well then not really an issue.
