Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

I made a point of watching Shaw last season and I was very impressed by him each time I saw him. I think signing Shaw would be the perfect way of opening our Summer spending. Got a feeling in my gut we won't see him arrive though. Have Southampton ever sold a player to us?

Danny Wallace, but we're going back 25 years there.

I do think it'll happen eventually, especially with Chelsea now quite close to signing Felipe Luis. The question is will it drag on into August or can we get it over the line in the next couple of weeks, so he can do his pre-season with us?

It helps that England are out of the WC early, means that this will either be wrapped up or you can move on and look at other targets. I can see Lallana and Shaw pushing for moves when they're back though, especially if the big clubs which are reported are interested in them. Southampton won't want to lose a lot of key players though which could bump up the prices for players and why they're holding out for more. It's the same justification for us selling/wanting more for Fellaini. They might not be worth that to the buyer (until you evaluate it after their contract/s is/are up), but when they're a key player and the club doesn't really need or want to sell it goes up. I think it will be a case of whoever is quickest to buy too though, they've already lost Lambert so will not want to lose a lot of their core - Schneiderlin, Shaw, Lovren, Lallana, Rodriguez - they could all leave, but not all of them will.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I noticed Les Reed, who is on the coaching staff there, made a point of saying the other day that he felt Lallana should give them another year at least. In the piece I read though, there was no mention of Shaw in similar context. Perhaps Southampton are coming round to the idea that £27 million for a teenage full back is a very good offer and their desire to try and keep hold of Lallana is greater. I think Lallana might have other ideas, but like you say, it might come down to who can get their deal over the line first.

Kudos on putting a positive spin on England getting knocked out. I needed that.
Reports from Holland media that Koeman wont sell to LVG because they dont get on....whather that affects transfer dealings remains to be seen

Van Gaal could have eaten Koeman's children, the only thing that matters in all of this is the cash that enters the Southampton bank account.

Any links to such reports?

Plus it's hardly like LvG will be doing the negotiating himself. I think this is a non-story.

Well if you're waiting on Woodward to get the job done I'd pull up a chair and settle in.
It seems to be the 'in thing' on the Caf atm but you might want to wait until we are approaching the end of this window before you judge Woodward. He didn't cover himself in glory last summer but it's impossible for any fan to know how much of that was down to his flawed negotiation strategy and how much was Moyes' dithering.

Also LvG doesn't do the negotiating himself as he previously pointed out:
“I say which players I want and which players can leave,” Van Gaal said.

“But they (United) have to negotiate. I’ve never interfered with transfers.”

I understand what you are saying and I am full aware LVG doesn't do the negotiating as I am fully aware that the World Cup is a great showcase for under the radar talent which would also, in theory, slow down the process. I agree the end of the window is when final grade should be issued but tell me you have confidence in him at this point. We pulled the plug on Moyesey and Woodward is next if he doesn't get the job done.

I almost wish Holland would bow out so we could get LVG in here and get him focussed 100% on Utd.

I hope you are right but still have doubt.

He'll be home soon anyway so if this is wrapped up like we have been led to believe, it should be done in the next few weeks.

I saw it on twitter, but apparently his personal life was splashed on the front page of the sun.

And why are we being mentioned in this?? He isnt even our player! 18 and not a United player, couldn´t care less..

I'd be more concerned if he didn't ask a Playboy model with a twin sister for a threesome.

Give the lad a gold star.. would be a bit more worried if he had turned down the chance to bang two models..

No one cares yet the newspapers will make it front page news. Good on him, hope he got the threesome in the end!

I will need the names of these brazilian ladies to google before I can decide on what measure of outrage I should expend on this.

oh you meant if he didn't it might mean he's gay?

Yes, phew. No those. or blacks

His sexual preferences (or anybodies for that matter) is no concern of mine, that didn't even cross my mind when posting my original tweet.

Wonder will he play in England's final game versus Costa Rica, seeing as Baines has been poor and the actual game is a dead rubber.

Im really hoping so, I see absolutely no reason why not. Some of the younger players who havent featured thus far should get their reward, there is nothing to lose by doing so and itll be a good experience for him.

Considering Baines is injured it seems quite probable.

Hope so too, although Hodgson might be worried that they play well and win and then get slaughtered for not playing that team earlier

TBF if I was an 18 year old millionaire in Brazil I would do way more than just beg. Don't see anything wrong with this.
