Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

They don't have a clue either way.

Nothing has or will happen until after the WC now anyway.

If anything this could be a negotiating tactic by United. They want Shaw, but they can't afford to sit around and wait Southampton. So make it known you have other options you will be chasing.

That or like others have said it's just nonsense from a paper looking to fill some transfer gossip.

well we might actually see some solid movement on this now as Koeman has agreed to take over.

I am pretty sure there is an agreement in principle with the player, it is just a case of dumb and dumber getting their heads together.

Chico + £12m seems fair.

No it doesn't. Starting as first choice for them, Hernandez would be scoring 25 goals a season easy. I wouldn't offer them more than £5m on top of him for Shaw. They need to replace Lambert equally if not more urgently than we need a new LB.

Would love to get £22m for Hernandez but that while might have been possible 2 seasons ago, it definitely isn't now. Doubt he'll fetch more than £15m from anyone this Summer.

Hernandez isnt worth more than 12.5m in a swop deal, Shaw is likely to be around the 30 to 35 mark but his high wages will be comparable to Ashley Youngs, lets hope he doesn't go the same way form wise

Hernandez is worth a lot more.

Hopefully now knowing Buttner is leaving, this means we're going to sign Shaw. We shouldn't worry too much about the price for Shaw, we'll probably pay £18-20m up front then the rest will be add ons etc.

Sadly like a used car when you are relying on the buyer to set the price, you have to get what you can get

He's not a used car. We don't have to sell him but if we were an exchange would probably work out better then selling him for cheap

We're under no pressure to sell Hernandez. If we don't get what we're after then we should keep him. Simple.

If United know that Shaw wants to go to United, they can play hardball and wait for Shaw to force Southamptons hand.

Yeah but they could refuse like we did with Rooney. Isn't Shaw on a long term deal? I think with this one Southampton have a lot of power and Shaw doesn't strike me as someone who's gonna kick up a massive storm to get out of there right now anyway. Particularly as we don't have CL, there's less urgency for him to move other than the pay increase which if he/his agent is smart they'll know they'll get sooner or later.

Well at least his already ridiculous value won't increase now, or will it if he puts in a half decent performance against CR?

For all we know Shaw could have signed a long term deal on the basis of a gentleman's agreement to let him leave, to help the club recoup it's investment in him since the age of 8. It's all speculation at this stage really. We don't have a clue one way or the other.

If we can wrap this one up before the end of the world cup, he can now get a full pre-season with us.

Yeah of course it's speculation. But gentleman's agreement aside, which tbh in light of what Liverpool did with Suarez's contractual clause wouldn't mean much I think the power is more than likely more on Southampton's side. But yeah speculation nonetheless.

Jamie Jackson on mutv said again he's very confident of this move, I guess its all up to our hero Woody to sort a fee.

Personally I would be very careful to be confident with Woodward conducting the discussions

I made a point of watching Shaw last season and I was very impressed by him each time I saw him. I think signing Shaw would be the perfect way of opening our Summer spending. Got a feeling in my gut we won't see him arrive though. Have Southampton ever sold a player to us?

It helps that England are out of the WC early, means that this will either be wrapped up or you can move on and look at other targets. I can see Lallana and Shaw pushing for moves when they're back though, especially if the big clubs which are reported are interested in them. Southampton won't want to lose a lot of key players though which could bump up the prices for players and why they're holding out for more. It's the same justification for us selling/wanting more for Fellaini. They might not be worth that to the buyer (until you evaluate it after their contract/s is/are up), but when they're a key player and the club doesn't really need or want to sell it goes up. I think it will be a case of whoever is quickest to buy too though, they've already lost Lambert so will not want to lose a lot of their core - Schneiderlin, Shaw, Lovren, Lallana, Rodriguez - they could all leave, but not all of them will.
