Looks like we'll just have to wait until Southampton appoint their next manager now. Once that happens, I think it's quite safe to say Shaw will be confirmed as a United player shortly after so we'll just need to be patient.

How come Lambert was allowed to go to Liverpool though without a manager in place?

Yup, I believe that as well. Wasn't too confident earlier but to be fair, every reliable journalist backs him to end up here this transfer window, even BBC sources reporting it now. Ogden,Ducker, Ben Smith, I'm sure I left out a few others.

What difference does a new manager even make? Any manager who comes in is probably going to want to keep him, because he's very good, so it's basically about offering the club enough money to sell, which I wouldn't imagine is the managers remit to be bartering over Shaw's value.

Sounds like stalling tactics. Woodward needs to stop being a soft shite and go all Bitch Hunter.

Brilliant! Where does it come from?

Off topic, but if only we'd pulled off the Ramsey and Bale signings and kept Pogba! Would have saved us a fair bit of money now!

Yeah. We could definitely have handled the Pogba situation better. Dont think we could have done much more in the 1st 2 cases.

I just want it finalised so we can move on. If we're really offering him £8m a year or £160,000 a week then we've prob had to triple his wages due to not being in the Champions League. He seems to have his head screwed on right so hopefully giving that much money to a young boy doesn't change him.

United not willing to pay Bale fee according to Redknapp was why he joined Spurs and then getting Gary Neville to take Ramsay around OT as SAF was away somewhere. Wenger who was also away flew Ramsey to Switzerland. Ramsey is quoted as saying 'they were the team who showed they wanted me more'.

If the Express are the only ones reporting it then you can expect the opposite of whatever they say to happen.....I'm expecting him to go to Chelsea now....The Express is pure poison and should be banned on here

Deciding how to replace him maybe? Or deciding how to spend that money generally. It would probably make sense to figure out targets with their new manager before they sell a big player like Shaw. Lambert hardly counts at the price he went for.

Like you say, it's stalling tactics. Southampton have no need to get this done quickly. They'd be silly to do so. The World cup and manager situation just offer good 'excuses' to drag it along even more.

Wait a while, secure the best deal for themselves, haggle for a bit more money (or more money upfront). And if we look elsewhere, they keep him for another year, and it wont be long before someone comes in with big (or bigger bucks).

Can anyone give a logical reason why Southampton won't sell till they have a manager?

I personally think they are just trying to jack up the price and squeeze us for all they can.
They know Shaw will go, new manager or not.

Shaw coming to MUFC and Costa going to Chelsea are practically done transfers IMO.

Can't forget Joe Cole to Villa ;)

If iirc, Sir Alex said we'd put in a good bid which was rejected. I dont remember how much he said we bid or how much he eventually went for but its not as if we didnt try. One cant have every transfer they go in for. And yeah, I remember the Gary Nev episode and frankly if he didnt sign because Sir Alex didnt show him around, I dont really care. Its a very small thing and I dont blame us for that either.

We dropped the ball an awful lot in those years. When you think of the team we could have had if we'd done our business competently..

I know it's heresy on here but I think Fergie got a bit complacent. I remember a few years back David Gill made me spit out my porridge when he said, "We usually get the players we're after." I said to myself, "What alternate Universe are you living in, Dave?"

Exactly I believe our aura as a club and SAFs as a manager was not an immediate yes those days even if we matched club valuation. The modern players are a lot more fickle plus the greed of their agents. I feel it is a game we now have to play if we are to make sure we get players we are after. Leave morals at the door and play dirty.

Your opinion is fair of course I just think Wenger showed more class with Ramsey. Plus Neville as much as I loved his passion on the pitch and now his punditry he is hardly Mr Personality, would've made more sense using Giggs to me as welsh and surely an idol of Ramsey's.
As for Southampton I'm just going by what Redknapp quoted as he was the manager at the time and does seem to have the respect of SAF so was just saying it how it was. Obviously our club valuation and theirs will not always be the same but still a player we missed out on over a couple of million in my eyes. I doubt he chose Spurs over us.

Yeah I agree with that actually, Giggsy would have been the better bet. Its just impossible to know the circumstances surrounding these things though, such a small thing to worry about. Fwiw, I feel our midfield options at the time prevented him from coming here. Ironical but there you go.

See the thing is, had we signed Bale from S'oton, we'd have played him at LB, and not moved him up to a winger. Bale was a shit LB, I tell you that now. We probably would have sold him to a low team and his potential would never have been realised

NEV: "If you want to join United, you have to really hate the scousers."
RAMSEY: "I do!"
NEV: "Oh yeah? How much?"
RAMSEY: "A lot!"
NEV: "Right, you're in."
