Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

How many fans want him for the price being stated?

What £30m? Yeah I'd still take him. Anything beyond £35m would make me feel somewhat uncomfortable however I doubt we'll go there or that Southampton would demand that much.

I want him. Terrific prospect and bags of potential. With Van Gaal's and Evra's tutelage, he really can be the best left back in the world in a few years time. If he is loyal then we can get 10-15 years from him for £27-30m which is not bad at all.

As Feed Me says, as long as his fee doesn't stop us from securing our targets in other (priority, imo) areas.
Of course, there will be extra pressure on him because of such a high fee, but he could still end up being a bargain. It would remind me a lot of the Ferdinand deal in that respect. A lot of anxiousness about the fee at the time, but ended up justifying every penny.

I agree with this. If we can get a decade plus service from him it will be worth it. There are not many top top fullback's around. The price is slightly steep but we should do it.

I wonder if we get him then he will adopt our club in the way that the likes of Ferdinand and Solakjaer did.

You can tell from the likes of Evra of how much our history means to players, I wonder how much of our club history players not involved with the club know about it and if it changes their perception. You can tell how proud Evra is to play for this club, and I think our prestige is something you can't find in too many places.

I'd prefer Ricardo Rodriguez but Shaw is the dog's bollocks, I'd be happy with him at about 30 mill.

Ferdinand was no-brainer as a CB at 23 having played over 170 PL games including a couple of years at Leeds who were a top club back then. Shaw is a fullback who's played 50-odd games for a mid-table club. Crazy,

Me. He's already better than Evra and is a great prospect who will give us 10+ years of service. There's no doubt the prices handed out are a lot for a fullback, but Shaw is a special case.

Why stop at thread ban?

From time to time he does give the occasional 1 liners, few and far between though these days.

I answered a question. Too bad you disagree with it.

You've answered the same question 12 times in this thread now. Anyway, I won't derail any further, as you were.

I know, but even with Ferdinand's experience there were reservations about the price tag.

And back in those days, we could outbid any English club. These days, with 4 other teams also having broke the £30m ceiling, there is greater demand for promising young English players. The chances of a Ferdinand being available at 23 are weaker, simply because they're more likely to already be at a big club.

He is already one of the best LBs in England and he is only 18. He is the best signing we can make at the LB position when you consider current form and age.

He's 18. Why would he retire at the age of 28?

Saying that he'll have 10 years of service for us doesn't necessarily mean he'd retire. Just may mean he'll move away. Impossible to say.

What I meant was if we can get 10 years minimum out of him, then I'd take it.

I remember when a young Rooney was being linked with us for £35m and back then I was saying that it was too much, how wrong was I.

The same logic applies to Shaw now, okay he's not a striker who's going to get you goals, but to be able to fill a position for potentially 15 years then it will be money well spent.

I have no problem with us paying for potential but I just don't see that world class potential with Shaw. Hope I am wrong of course but imo there are better young full backs available who wouldn't cost as much as Shaw,

if you have to lash 30m on a fullback, he might as well be a wonderkid 18year old who has already had a couple of good years for a Premier league team.
If, and it's a big if, you think he'll go on to be a top left back for 15years

As usual, not a fecking whisper.

Nothing can happen on it until after England are out of the world cup.
He's in Miami, and I doubt he can break off from the pre world cup camp to come home and sign!

I would have preferred signing him and atleast another player before the world cup. The world cup will be till the middle of July and players wont be available for talks till then. I know not everybody will be playing in the latter stages of the world cup but still the players I think we should target could be. There will be one and a half month though. A lot could be done.
Btw, does anybody know why Shaw's deal is taking time really? I read it was stalled, he had an interest in Chelsea apparently and Southampton being managerless as the reasons. Or have I answered the question?

Didn't stop Liverpool with Lambert.

Southampton's chairman has said that they wanted to sort out Pochettino's future first before selling any players.

Exactly. Maybe because the deal is bigger and thus more complex?

Thanks. Ogden is off on holiday for ten days and no Shaw news from him. James Ducker has no news and he seems to be off too. Nothing from Ian Ladyman as well. Any reliable journalist reporting this is done before the world cup?

I answered a question. Too bad you disagree with it.

No, you pretty much exclusively just turn up in any transfer thread which isn't about Fellaini or Gareth Barry and write 'do not want' to WUM. Often again and again in the same thread. I'd echo Genius Me's threadban question @Damien. At the very least.

We could announce that we have agreed a deal with Southampton and the personal terms with the player though? Like we did with Mata, all that was left to do was his medical.

Even if everything was already sorted, we'd probably agree with him not to announce until after, so as to not create a distraction for the England squad. I doubt he wants to piss Hodgson off by publicly making a big money move just before the tournament when Hodgson specifically asked his players to avoid that sort of thing.
