Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

TBH I haven't seen much of Taylor since his injury, has he got back to his previous level? If he has then he would be a very good buy for someone like Southampton. Even the fact that he's older isn't a bad thing for them as they have a really young squad as it is so could be with some older players.

Well... he has and he hasn't. Recently, his performances have been back up to their old scratch. But it's hard to evaluate his consistency - which is one of the key assets for a full-back, and was one of the areas he so excelled in pre-injury - because Davies has mostly managed to keep hold of the first choice spot, despite the manager acknowledging the fierce competition between them for it.

Forget this guy. He is good but not good enough for us to be held to ransom in terms of transfer fees. I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives out there.

Sounds like we are quibbling over a couple of million quid. Let's hope that this dithering doesn't cost us a good signing.

I'm gutted Liverpool are leading the race to sign Moreno from Sevilla. The guy is class. Better than Shaw and would probably cost half the fee. Spanish players generally don't demand the same crazy wages as English players either.

In this particular case, the quibbling is justified imo. Doesn't look like anyone else is interested in buying Shaw for the same amount of money as us.

I dont really care much about fees but 27mil for Shaw is a top offer. Its incredible they're not happy. But yeah, if what it takes is few mil more, I hope we pay it and secure the signing.

I don't see any bigger problem with this transfer so far. It's not even close to official window. Everything going in a steady way and we're showing biggest interest from the start... However, if Southampton won't accept next bids then Woody should ask how much they want for him and do exactly what other Caf members said - consider someone else, maybe with even bigger potential... but so far it looks like things moving forward with the negotiations.

Remember what Van Gaal said - money doesn't matter. If he want that player in his team, he'll get him eventually. Price shouldn't be a problem if they're willing to sell, even for high amount.

No panic over this one. It's widely reported that we're the only side in for him. It's going to be a terrific signing.

If Moreno fulfils his potential, he won't stay at Liverpool. Yes, top English players come at a premium, but you get the longevity - look at Rio and Rooney. If you look at the quality and length of service, they have been bargains.

That's not always true though. Quite a few foreign players that we have signed have stayed for a long period and Suarez looks set to stay at Liverpool for the peak of his career despite being one of the best players in the world.

Generally, they haven't held on to their players. Of their 08/09 title challenging side, Torres, Mascherano and Alonso all buggered off for bigger clubs. Also, there's no guarantee Suarez will stay - if Real Madrid wage one of their campaigns, it's likely they'll get their man.

Suarez's situation is a little hairy, though. The club stuck with him through times of biting players, being overtly racist to other players, and being an all around kernt through diving. It's not even 100% he'd stay at the club! but if he does, there's always a large part of it that he 'owes it to the club'.

I wouldn't say anything like that until July to be honest because Madrid are apparently sniffing, and we know what Madrid are like

In fairness Alonso (I mean trying to replace Barry with him was ludicrous) was buggered off because of the way Benitez treated him and the Torres sale would have been mad to say no to. Mascherano also left because they didn't have CL football for the 2nd season in a row, it would be interesting to see the reaction of our top English players if we finished outside the top 4 next season as well.

They managed to keep Suarez last summer without any CL football, no reason they can't at least hold off Madrid with a title race and CL campaign in the picture. I think he has already come out and said he is staying next summer.

I think he has come out and said he will stay, he probably wouldn't mind playing for Madrid but they would have to pay a similar amount to Ronaldo which they probably don't want to.

Every player always says that until a good offer comes in, it's pretty much routine. But I think Madrid would be more than happy to pay that if they thought they were getting the best striker on the planet.

Alonso was treated shabbily, but he was never saying no to Real Madrid. Torres definitely wanted out. That trio are examples of them not being able to keep top foreign talent. May have been different we're they English.

Honestly I doubt it. If Madrid were keen on Rooney rather than City he would have been off by now. It would be different only if they were directly home grown like Giggs or Gerrard.

I'm not saying there are no exceptions, but generally speaking, it's easier to retain British players. They tend not to have dreams of playing for the Hispanic giants.

Moreno is at the same level as Shaw who are both a level below Rodriguez.

I can imagine the RAWK reaction to you talking about Chelsea as a bigger club than Liverpool...

Off to Miami then Brazil, can forget this thread for 6 weeks.

I read that Lallana could just have a medical in Miami if Southampton accept Liverpool's bid. I guess the same will apply to Shaw.

As much as people like to denigrate Chelsea, they've made their own history over the past decade and have accumulated honours at as good a rate as anyone in England.

They're now a bigger club than Liverpool, in my eyes.

Don't know about that, but certainly a far more attractive club for potential recruits than Liverpool.

Yeah Moreno is brilliant and I'm always banging on about Juan Bernat, really see him as the better option to Shaw.

Other than history, I see no other metric by which it can be claimed Liverpool are bigger than Chelsea.

Number of fans?

Just because they've had a lot of success in the last decade doesn't mean Chelsea aren't a tiny club in the grand scheme of things.

However because of success and money they're massive for new players.

I fail to see how a club who has won the league title 4 times, have a smaller fan base can be bigger than one of this Countries biggest clubs. If Chelsea are indeed "bigger" or on a par with Liverpool then by your reckoning they aren't much smaller than us...

Maybe but I'd much rather we spend £8m on Evra back when we did than say £16m on the equivalent English player only because the latter might not go to Madrid.

Of course, but that's not the only reason we're after Shaw. Anyone who's watched him knows he has great potential. But it's not just an uneducated punt - the lad already has 60 PL games under his belt, aged 18. Providing he steers clear of injuries, the £30m fee will end up being very good business.

it's a no brainer, really is. sign him.

Blimey, in your logic, City will probably be a bigger club than us in a few years then!

How many fans want him for the price being stated?
