Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

I remember Jamie Carragher talking about something like this in an interview a few years back. Part of what is required of the best athletes in the world now is total and utter dedication to their craft. So unfortunately, old friends often fall away (and usually don't take it well). It comes with the territory and not just because a certain player is prick.

Carragher at least will keep a few mates around in case he needs to sic them on somebody.

Good point. Just think about it: you really commit yourself to something in a consuming way. Day in and day out you hone to better yourself and take the sacrifices that come with it. You are bound to grow apart from those you know that just don't do the same. As you mature and get exposed more to the world friends become who have commonalities with as opposed to just function of proximity. I can see that getting mistaken for snobbery.

As for "I'm too famous for you now", that'd be a different matter.

Elliot my old son, you're one of my favourite abrasive posters but that's piss-poor.

Much like you, I was better when my heart was in it.

For the record, you're still my favorite opposition poster, just not quite as sharp as you used to be.

"My sister used to be his teacher", "we've been informed by his friends". We have better sources than the express AND the mail.

We're not going to sign Shaw, everything points to Jose getting Felipe Luis, so I don't see United missing out on Luke, especially if numbers quoted in the press are correct.

I know he's a Chelsea fan, but are Chelsea + Mourinho the types to actually spend near on £30 million on a 18 year old? Not sure if they are.

Unless something major has changed, no. I can imagine Chelsea the club doing the deal at the expense of an older alternative, but not Mourinho.

I can't remember a teenager playing the majority of games in a Mourinho defence (or team, come to think if it)
Filipe Luis is right down his street.

Mourinho ideally wants to have an English spine at the core, and I'm sure he considered Shaw. But with FFP and our need to sell in order to buy, there are probably more pressing concerns for us to address elsewhere in the squad, so he has to pick his priorities.

I agree that Jose is hardly known for his trust in youth, I'd imagine he'd prefer an experienced head like Felipe Luis for a year or two.

He did sign Kurt Zouma.
I'm not sure (maybe I'm wrong) that it was his signing. And I doubt he'll play very much in the next season, if not the next two or three.

I also wouldn't be surprised if he ends up leaving Chelsea in a few years having made very few appearances actually.

He did play Varane at Madrid, but that was out of necessity really, due to the team being split in half as to whether they liked him or not.

Luke Shaw might not make the England friendly because of a "cold"......what are the chances he is away completing his move to United?

If the bid indeed has been rejected, then let's move the feck on..
