Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

You think a left back is all we need? I'll tear my hair out if we don't get at least one, and preferably two, quality midfielders.
No that's not what I meant, it's just the fact that Shaw looks ridiculously talented for his age and it's obvious to see he has massive potential. He's the type of signings I want us to make, I'm sure we'll sign a few midfielders this summer, I would be very surprised if we didn't. I'll put it this way, I'd be more upset if we lose out on Shaw than Kroos.

113 pages now....I hate this time of season.

At least we're not in the state Southampton are in. The absolute main reason they're doing so well leaves in the manager. Shaw definitely off to someone, Lallana most likely off. Rumours for 3-4 other players.

They might be struggling next year

No, we would move on to the next player and life will go on. And excessive moaning will be dealt with.
Left back is a position with a few options potentially available and with evra signing for another year I wouldnt be that bothered if we lost out and switched attention to Rodriguez or Moreno though I would prefer we get Shaw (unless the price gets stupid)

True, and plus no player is going to make or break us. Whereas the manager's ability to make our players perform will be critical. I'm sure LvG will sort that out once the WC is done.

Talksport spoke to a South Coast based journalist (sorry I don't know the name) around 6pm tonight about Pochettino and he mentioned that he still expects Shaw to sign for United.

Not groundbreaking news by any means, but a number of the journalists still seem to think that he's heading our way.

Let's hope they're right.

I heard that as well. Maybe that is one of the reasons he is going, selling all the players from under him. It means he is never making progress, they might not give him the proceeds of the sale and be just expect him to keep on blooding kids.

It's confirmed,Luke Shaw to sign for United - TalkSport have just said so

again.

 ;)

Warren Houghton just said on TalkSport that Luke Shaw to Man Utd isn't any closer and that Southampton may dig their heels in now after losing their manager.

Luke Shaw is becoming a better footballer EVERY day! United need to get this World Class talent or the club will not even make 7th next season!

;) I love the hysteria surrounding players every summer. The media is full of ITK gobshites, and everyone would do themselves a favour to remember that.

United's phases of trying to sign a player...

1. "Set to bid for" - this stage can last for weeks and may never progress to stage 2
2. "Preparing a bid for" - we must have the slowest lawyers in football because this preparation stage can take over a week
3. Bid (this is usually leaked by us just in case any of our rivals want to consider a higher bid)
4. Nothingness - this phase can last weeks, presumably because Woody is not very good at closing out transfers
5. The Hijack - a rival club "hijacks" the deal, usually offering the same, or less, than we had reportedly offered.
6. Back to phase 1 for another player
7. Repeat until deadline day when we sign Fellaini instead

Our rivals tend to use a different set of phases however

1. Chelsea have agreed to sign Player X for £Ym

Wasn't Pochettino's future one of the things the Saints are waiting to get sorted before they let Shaw go? Or am I imagining things?

Why did we bid for him then?

Because we want to sign him? Southampton were never going to sell either player while the turmoil over Pochettino's future was going on but no harm in putting a bid in. Now his future has been resolved, this transfer might move up a gear, but I suspect Southampton will be concentrating on finding a replacement and there's no rush for them to accept bids for their players as they know the interest will still be there regardless, and might encourage more competition/higher bids the longer it goes on.

I fully expect Shaw to sign for Chelsea. With them letting Cole go there will be room for Shaw. They also have to cash

But the reverse could be true. For example, if we don't feel like we're getting anywhere then we may turn our attentions elsewhere and then they will be left with a player who wants to move and may only have Chelsea in for him who won't be so desperate to pay the high price we will.

Either way, I hate summer transfer season.

They also need to spend big on a striker and in midfield. Lets not forget they also have Azpilicueta on their books who had an impressive season. Shaw at 30M (if they matched our fee and wages of 100k) would be a luxury signing for them unless Azpilicueta is moving to RB where he can play as well.

Good news on the Shaw front.

It all fell apart when there were rumors claiming Pochettino was considering staying at Southampton but Shaw staying was among one of his demands.

The optimist in me thinks Shaw has signed the papers, nothing Pochettino could have done, he says feck it and goes to Spurs.

You're making Luke Shaw sound like Cafu or Maldini.

Jamie Jackson reported that it was rejected, though it's hard to tell whether he's chatting shite or not.

This week he said the clubs expects Shaw to be sealed. He's talking out of his arse.

If Pochettino's future really did rely on Shaw remaining at the club, then there must be a chance he's going to try and nab him and get him to Spurs, if he rates him so highly?

Did Utd actually make a bid ? Or is it all allegedly and believe whatever news source/media that suits your agenda?

Spurs won't let him splurge £27m and a £100k a week on an 18 year old left back. No way.

£27m is not unreasonable for a player with the potential to be the best player in his position for the next 15-20 years. Bidding £27m to sign Ryan Giggs in 1993 would have seemed excessive.

Well it all depends on how gullible you are I suppose.

Let's take Jamie Jackson for example, one minute he was telling us the truth in that we've bidded, then he decided to go on a wum and act a cnut by acting like Southampton had rejected our offer and that we're no longer strong favourites, until he decided to stop lying to us and reveal the truth that we're still in pole position.

So yeah, basically we love the journalists who tell us the truth, and hate the lying cnuts who try to make us believe this transfer won't happen.

Most stuff in the media you can write off as BS but this one does seem to have been reported just about everywhere that we made a bid post the end of the season and have been monitoring him for a good long while now, too much smoke me thinks without any fire on this case.

By the way guys, I would just chill out from here and take a step back from actively monitoring twitter/papers/SSN etc every few hours, it's going to be a bloodly long summer for us, I get the feeling some of the Cafe will be working themselves up into a frenzy soonish.

I thought merciless spending was what Spurs were good at? They did plenty of it last season. They paid a similar amount for Lamela off the back of a good couple of seasons, just like Shaw has had.

The manager knows the player, he's already among the best in his position in the Premier League, and Spurs could certainly use a better left back. I reckon it would be more down to the player not wanting to go to Spurs, than Spurs blocking a move.

Last season they knew their spending would be funded by selling Bale.
