Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

I know. But even so, the Kroos thing seemed likely to happen and now it is basically 100% not happening. Now the Shaw deal, which appeared 90% likely is in doubt. It's disappointing.

Maybe it's time to not believe media reports until the BBC or the club itself comments? Would spare you the disappointment.

Considering how prevalent the media coverage is what you are saying is easier said than done.

I'm not suggesting ignoring the media. Just don't believe the nonsense until there's word from an official source. Otherwise you have only yourself to blame if you get disappointed.

Sucks that either way, we won't be finding out until after the world cup in all likelihood.

But cantonagiggs1 isn't being paid a very good salary to report what is going on unlike the useless buckets of congealed hippo jizz that make up the sports media, none of who could refrain from printing the first load of bullshit that comes into their head even if I held a gun to their sainted mothers crying face
I agree and I was criticising the journalists myself over the weekend. The shit they spout is ridiculous. However people need to stop hanging onto their every word. Why cross Shaw off any list? No-one has a clue what will happen with him.

If it's not done by Friday then forget it (and any other transfer) until late July.

Atleast we haven't got Moyes saying "it is a difficult window" I suppose.

You can forget anything by Friday. It will now be August before anything.

Van Gaal has clearly vetoed anything club had been working on (Shaw being the exception). Basically, we are exact same position as last summer. Just watch Woodward feck us again.

Agree. People are going to have to be patient around transfers cause if they haven't noticed, there's a certain world cup being played in about 3 weeks. Given that pretty much all our 'targets' are there doesn't help plus even more so, also the bloody guy who's potentially identified them. Irrespective of whether there's already a list, its not like Woody can just pop down the German or England camp and say, can I just have a quick word with Tony or Luke please.....

Exactly. Clubs aren't idiots either. They know having their players in the shop window that is the World Cup is likely to play to their advantage in terms of negotiations. We can't force them to sell early. The offer that we've allegedly made for Shaw is substantial and there isn't much more Woodward could do at this point.

I'm not confident on getting Shaw at all. I feel with Evra signing a one year deal that Shaw wasn't coming. I think we're in for another season of being linked with players, but no end result. If LvG is holding up transfers, then he needs to resign as The Dutch Head Coach and come to us now! I mean we're now weaker this season than we were last and we finished seventh last season. We can't afford to have our thumbs up our collective arses here we need to make signings and make them quick.

What's worrying me is we've heard nothing from either Manchester United or Southampton on the Luke Shaw signing. I mean they haven't rejected the bid nor have they accepted it. What's going on, why isn't there any dialogue between us and the club on whether the bid was made or not. Now we're hearing that Danny Welbeck wants to leave because he doesn't see a future at Manchester United. So, we've lost Vidic, Ferdinand, and possibly Welbeck. Also, the Mata rumors aren't being denied by the club either.

I know clubs don't tell their fans the inner workings of a deal for many reasons, but I mean we need some kind of reassurances that things are in the works. It wouldn't take them two seconds to say "Mata isn't going anywhere" but no we're in the dark and fans quite rightly are worried that we're in for more of the same. We've been linked with great players over the world and watch us end up with Peter Crouch on deadline day.

The club is not obligated to respond to every bit transfer speculation, and why should they be? There are hundreds of articles speculating about our transfer dealings every week, do you expect the club to respond to each and every one of them?

Hodgson wants all transfers to be sorted out after the WC.

Also, the Mata story is only being reported by the newspaper AS. The English papers that reported it are only quoting from them. So it's a non-story, especially since AS is a pro-Madrid paper.

Have faith.

Van Gaal is a brilliant manager. If Welbeck was to go, it'd be a shame, but in the likelyhood is he'll never be a nailed on starter for us. Mata to Barcelona is a lot of nonsense in my opinion, but even if it were true, Mata limits the formations we can play, and perhaps Van Gaal wants to play 442 like he did with AZ and Bayern on occasion.

Like Mel said, clubs aren't obliged to respond to all bits of transfer speculation. The thing that is most likely holding everything up is Pochettino. His future still hasn't been resolved, and Southampton won't be selling any players until it is - one way or the other.

Simon Jones from The Mail reckons Chelsea have asked about Shaw and whether deal with Utd is done.

If Neil Ashton goes with this then im inclined to believe it. That said, i do think the deal is completed - it may force us to announce quicker.

This is exactly why you don't let deals drag on for an eternity, it's like dangling the player right in front of all these sugar daddy clubs and just waiting for them to bite. Hopefully this deal is done and dusted and the clubs are just keeping it quiet for now, or else I and I'm sure every other United fan will be extremely pissed off.

If we lose out on this one then Woodward better start looking for a new job. Hes under serious pressure.

We all know the script to this one. He'll go to Chelsea. In fact, who was the last player that came to us when both Chelsea and United were after him? I honestly can't remember. There's certainly been more the other way round. Hazard, Ballack, Essien, Robben, Duff, Mikel(!) just off the top of my head.

Typical us, typical Woodward.. if this news is genuine then expect him to be a Chelsea player next season.

This is why we shouldn't haggle over a few million. We did it with Robben and Hazard. Guess what, Chelsea come in and take the player.

I must ask what the club could have done more than 27m and 100k per week ?

I am not saying that Chelsea are actually doing this. I am not buying into all these different rumours coming out regarding the shaw deal.
But, isn't this what Chelsea seem to do.
They did it with Willian and Salah.

We should definitely go to £32m, or maybe £35m. And then do that with every other transfer too.

Don't mind if we don't get him, don't mind if we do.

It's safe to say Chelsea don't feck about with their transfers. We, on the other hand, do. And I'm not just talking about this transfer window, I'm talking about the last 7-8 years. Dithering United.

Honestly though, even if Chelsea beat us to his signature I don't think you can blame the club for this. We have put in a huge offer and in all likelihood it's Shaw who is holding up the deal hoping for a bid from Chelsea and it looks like it is coming now.

If we want deals rushed then we gotta pay what the other clubs want.

If we want to haggle then we risk other clubs coming in and offering what the other team wants.

Actually secure the deal for starters?

If Southampton want extra £3m, why not give them that?

You know nothing about the situation, who told you that the problem was Southampton and not Shaw ?

If shaw is waiting for Chelsea we can't force him and if it was only about money one way or the other the story would have be done.

I still think we're favourites to sign him but if we don't...

What the hell else were we supposed to do? We've already made a very generous offer to both the club and player, one that was being criticised for being too excessive a few weeks ago. How much are we really going top pay for a young fullback? Obviously if they want a few extra million then fine, but we haven't seen any suggestion that that's what is holding up the deal. If Chelsea sign him it'll be because he wanted to go to Chelsea, something we can't really control.

Anyway, if he does decide to go to Chelsea then feck him, there are plenty of alternatives around who'll cost a lot less.

If this was the first time then fair enough.

But it is a reoccurring theme. We just sit there haggling then one of the sugar daddy club comes in and they get the player.

It is beginning to feel like that. The trouble is Southampton are in the driving seat here and they know it, assuming it is them holding up the deal. The longer they wait, the better for them: He could have a good World Cup or the two Clubs could try and outbid each other and drive up the price.

I fear this one might drag on for a while yet.

Long summer ahead again. So much for wrapping up early signings. We can't even sign a teenager FFS.

Woodward should be sacked if he doesn't deliver this summer, hate his punchable face with a passion.

It's probably a done deal, but if he or Southampton reject 27 mil / 100 k per week, then Woodward should destroy any pre-contract we might have. It's already huge money we are offering here. There must be a limit somewhere.

If it was up to me I would pay what it takes to get Coentrao anyway assuming he is prepared to leave RM. Better and experienced at the highest level and would be cheaper than Shaw. Also a bit more than 100 k for a 26 year old is fine, not for an 18 year old.

And no, I don't care if we lose Shaw or not because of some million, because 100 k is absolutely ridiculous and will bite us int he arse once we renew contracts with other players. For all the warchest talk, we are not a money flowing machine. Yes, we make enough money, but we also have enormous costs.

All through the season I expected Shaw to go to Chelsea, it has only been the last few weeks that I thought we'd bring him in. If he now finally does go to Chelsea then I have nobody to blame but myself for getting sucked-in :boring:

TBF I'm not sure this potential failed transfer is really our fault - seems we were willing to put up the money, which has been the usual problem in the past.

It would be disappointing to miss out on him, but this is a fair point.

He's made the dough for the club for quite a few years now, and the transfer window's not yet begun. Calm down.
