Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

If everything was quiet, people would be moaning that Woodward isn't doing anything. He can't win really. Also, wy don't you wait until we near the end of the window before you decide our targets have failed. The truth is we have no idea what is in the pipeline and no evidence that Gill would have lured Kroos or signed Shaw by now either.

People are just understandably nervous after what happened last summer. I was calm and patient last summer, fully expecting us to sign more than just a Fellaini. That feeling of calm and trust has gone. We have no basis on which to trust Woodward. Nothing more frustrating that losing on the pitch due to board room incompetence.

And to think people thought not being in the UCL wouldnt affect our the quality of players we could sign...

We were in the CL last season and we still ended up signing with an overpriced long ball merchant whose way out of depth at United. .

Its time we realize that we are the Everton of the European transfer Market. Now we either step up or else we find other options who haven't yet caught the attention of the truly big clubs. Oh and there's the third option....the No one can replace Paul Scholes and Ando will be like a new signing one which brought the club to this sorry state.

Its to early to panic however I hope that we wont mess this transfer window up.

Fully agreed, people have every right to be nervous this summer. After the season we've had, it's imperative that we get the signings we need, and Woodward hasn't proved he's up to it yet. It's early days and things may change, but all these top class players that wanted to come to us are yet to be seen or heard of.

Why is everyone keep posting the same Jackson article when it has been online for over 12 hours and he is a known talker of BS and Ogden (who is actually reliable) has said that the deal is as good as done?

Muppetry is all well and good with me, but i'll admit this winds me up a bit. People seem to see what they want to see, i'm not sure whether this contributes to the whole rollercoaster effect?

I understand. I was in the same boat last summer. I was a bit of a transfer muppet in the Thiago/Cesc threads. What I don't understand though is people claiming we have failed/had a poor window or that Woodward is incompetent because we haven't done anything yet, less than two weeks after the season has ended and the transfer window has officially opened. It's beyond ridiculous. Whilst I accept it is imperative that we get it right, we aren't even anywhere near the point where we can judge this window yet.

Muppetry thats why and also some of us just want confirmation.

I haven't seen anyone saying this, at least not seriously anyway.

Not commenting on the validity of the 'Shaw move stalls' story because my guess is as good anyone else's, but a 'new' story is better than no story for journalists- even if the source is unreliable- especially now that the season is over and they need transfer gossip to fill the gap where there used to be games.

If the story is good click-bait, then they love to go all in on it. For them its better than endless reiterations of previously published stories, and it gets traffic to their sites so most of them don't care if its not accurate.

Jackson isn't reliable but If it's true that Chelsea steal Shaw from us I'll be pointing the blame big time on Woodward

A few seemingly have but the likes of Cavani, Reus, Kroos, Shaw, Muller have been linked for a while. In this last week it has suddenly become apparent that none will be arriving.

I'm not losing it, I just think Woodward is a complete tool. If you go big talking to the media about what you're going to do in the summer, you get pulled up when it drops apart.

Admittedly I'm being a bit presumptuous there. But these were his targets that he's no doubt been briefing about for the past however many months. It's only fair that someone points out what a massive cock the guy looks right now.

:lol::lol:

The last few days have been pathetic.

Every reported transfer target has failed.

I miss Gill :(

Just a few from this thread. I didn't even venture over to the Woodward thread.

- Daily Mail said it was pretty much done
- The Guardian's Jamie Jackson on the 20th May said: "Toni Kroos – Bayern Munich, £30m - The 24-year-old can operate in box-to-box mode, as a No10, or in more metronomic style, prompting the attack from deep: all of which is why Van Gaal and United have identified him as a solution to the perennial issue of the club’s central midfield deficit".
- Then on the 22nd May he wrote: "Louis van Gaal ends Manchester United’s interest in Toni Kroos"
- ESPNs Miguel Delaney
- MEN getting in on the act - we agreed a deal in principle

They all backtracked on Thursday/Friday though.

I hate to be pedantic here, but the Guardian article for instance was just about possible targets. It never said we had a deal agreed or anything like that, just it like didn't with the other nine targets.

So it was the Mail saying it was a done deal, which was always going to be crap, ESPN saying the same thing they were saying about Thiago last year (which did not include agreeing a fee, which for me was always going be the big issue), and MEN, who hasn't been a credible source for a while.

So overall, that's not a whole lot.

Same here. Jackson has shown over the last two summers that he has little idea of what he is going on. He writes an article saying the move has stalled and a mod goes and changes the thread title as if it was Shaw himself that said it! Everyone seems to have ignored the fact that Ogden (who is as reliable as it gets in terms of United) has said the move is "only a matter of time". Why isn't the thread title "Luke Shaw: Move is "only a matter of time"? I understand how people can be a little pessimistic when it comes to transfers this summer after last year but this is taking it too far.

Muppetry thats why and also some of us just want confirmation.

If you want confirmation Jackson isn't the journalist you should be looking to. Ogden meanwhile...

Fair enough. I understand why Jackson wrote the article. He gets most things wrong but he seems to be going for a "if you throw enough s**t at a wall" approach in the hope that he gets something right. I'm just a little confused as to why two posters posted the article on this page when it was posted on the thread over 12 hours ago. It seems like people want to emphasise the article for some reason.

The only reason I included those Guardian articles was because Jamie Jackson wrote both 2 days apart. On Tuesday he was claiming LvG had identified Kroos as a top target for our midfield then by Thursday he claimed LvG wasn't interested. They churn out bull all the time, fans lap it up and people believe it then get annoyed with the club when it doesn't materialise.

Of course. The whole 10-player list is nothing more than a combination of reports we've seen over the past few months and some assumptions rather than actual insight.

At times we are stimulated more by failure than success. Shaw not coming to the club under these circumstances provides much more stimulating debate than his supposed arrival; which has been on the cards for some time and provides less talking points at this stage. People are bored!

Its almost as if these journos/papers would have something to gain from posting a story that is different to all other stories and scares a bunch of fans. But papers arent interested in such things like internet hits etc

With us not being in the Champions League, the only way we can get some players, if other Champions League bound teams like Chelsea are also interested, is to make an offer that the player cannot refuse. I don't know how far along we were in negotiations with Southampton, but if a fee was agreed, then the player should have signed the contract straight away. He shouldn't have had a decision to make.

Regardless, I believe LVG has an idea of how to play football. I fully believe that Evra was only kept for his qualities in the dressing room. LVG must realise that Evra simply cannot defend.

If Luke Shaw is genuinely a LVG target, then I think he is the one player who I'd be still fairly sure on getting.
When will people stop battering on about the reasons why Evra was kept? He had a one year option in his contract, he took it up. We didn't offer him an extension, the option was always there for HIM to decide if he wanted to stay or not. He took up that option. End of story.

Can people stop making up conspiracy theories where there is none.

Exactly it's like there is a gang of Dan Brown on the forum, everything is subject to conspiracy.

It needs to be said that Jamie Jackson has a vested interest in telling us why this hasn't happened yet. He stuck his neck out very early on reporting it to be done.

I don't understand the argument of Evra re-signs so Shaw says no.

Buttner isn't relevant, so it seems odd that Shaw would be concerned about having a 33 year old understudy.

He might be concerned about who is going to be the understudy.

We need to get used to a world where we're no longer the biggest draw to players (even English youngsters).

We can't (well we can, but we don't) usually offer the same money; our future is not guaranteed to be any brighter than that of other clubs like it was under Sir Alex; the stability of the club isn't the same; we don't offer the chance to work with the best manager in the world, who guarantees success.

The name of the club can only do so much. If there's one time when the club should pay whatever it takes, it's right now. Overpay if we need to, or we could fall behind very quickly.

If the 'next Rooney' has offers from Chelsea, City and United - My money wouldn't be on him joining United any more.

Your whole point is basically nonsense, considering we've offered a transfer fee and wage package that reportedly, no other club is keen to match.

The feeling of calm and trust is gone? FFS grow up.

I think I'll stay away from the Caf for the Summer. Y'all are making we worried and anxious and its stupid because its May 24th not August 31st!

Not far from the truth is it though mate. I am terrible this time of year, I throw my toys right out the pram.
We just seem so pathetic and slow in the transfer market, big transfers get bigged up more than any other club, but 9/10 never materialise. Either by joining someone else or we just won't budge regarding fees or wages when that player is what we need.
I know it's only may, there's a long way to go. Bar Arsenal is there any other club that's more disapointting in the transfer window?

Wasn't there this club that payed ridiculous fees for Andy Carrol and Steward Downing? Sure they signed Suarez, but they also signed Babel once. Just imagine you were a Liverpool fan the last couple of years, surely you'd consider never watching a football match again I assume? :)

Pessimism has grown deep roots in this forum with the air of uncertainty having bloomed around the club over the last 12 months. Let it be... Let it be... Let it beee...

A) Any stall has nothing to do with Evra.
B) If Ogden says one thing and Jackson says another, believe Ogden.
C) If the deal does fall through (I still say that's very unlikely) then I'm really not sure what more we could've done anyway.

He is just considering if he should arrive by car or helicopter, no real issue here #believe

D) The alternatives look alright as well, if it does fall through. Shaw should be the one, but there are left-backs, which could turn out to be great, too.

pessimism during transfer windows had been going on for some years on the caf
