Glad he got game time. You can tell he's just came back from a long term injury, but can still have a future here if he can stay fit.

I thought he did pretty well considering it was his first real game in months. Looked fairly solid defensively an flooded to get forward. He wasn't offside for his goal either.

Looked promising in some moments going forward, still miles ahead to be a main starter, though.

didn't do much.

Although he is 22, he's missed so much football in 4 years, he is no way close to what a quality 22 yrear old should be. I wouldnt pick him ahead of Blind or Young right now, difficult to see how he gets enough game time to develop and progress.

Don't like that we switched to a 3 at the back and had him play wingback when he came on. Some of it was certainly lacking match fitness and sharpness, but he also didn't look comfortable in that position at all.

Looked like he was auditioning for the reserves to be frank.

Also, am I the only one who thinks he looks like Rooney physically?

Long way back to being first choice at this point. Looks a limited player on the ball these days.

During the match the commentator referenced comments that Mourinho made about needing to do Shaw's thinking for him. I wasn't aware of Mourinho's comments, but it makes total sense. He looks like he needs to be told exactly what to do at almost every point through the game.

Shaw, stand there. Run here. No, not there. FFS!!!

Does seem like hes packed on a few pounds thats for sure. But hes had a long time out.

Honestly dont think he will ever hold down a place here he'll be sold in the summer imo.

Was sent on for game time. Could have played like 94 Denis Irwin and it wouldnt have made a difference. He needs time on the field more than anything else at the minute, and that's a job well done on that front.

Thought he was decent and unlucky not to get his first senior goal. He's not a wingback though.

I thought that, too funnily enough. He looks stocky and he had those long sleeve under armour gimmicks on that Rooney always wears.

Didn't look like he knew what he was doing today - looked casual... Maybe it was just a fitness test for him - you have to hope so - because if Jose put him on expecting a performance we'll never see Shaw again.

Was okay. Seemed like the instructions were to take our foot off the gas and that largely showed in everyone's 2nd half performance barring Martial, as it was largely dead. Certainly not the type of game where we needed someone to step up, nor where we played with an intensisty.

He should work on his right foot at least a little bit. Not talking about passing or shooting but at least being able to stop and control the ball with it, not having to turn his entire body 90 degrees every time he wants to do something. He's every bit as predictable as Tony V, except he doesn't have his other qualities to make up for it.

Looked like a glorified training session, don't think we can judge too much from that performance. His first game after coming back from long term injury, so looked like he took it easy.

His touch for that offside goal

There was a game when Mourinho was screaming at him to make runs when he wasn't, it was picked up on the mics and a journo asked him after.

I doubt much importance is placed on his performance today. Came on at 3-0 I think, after 4-5 months out injured. Just get the minutes, and the form will come soon enough.

Hope were in a position where we can bring him on in the CL next week as well.

"tentative" is how I'd sum that performance up.

There were points where he looked like he fecking hated football.

Still, baby steps.

Didn't really seem like he was too keen to get involved or get up and down the pitch which is strange considering he should be wanting to make a good impression and improve his fitness. Saying that, he did nothing wrong, probably wanted too ease himself back into it and put in a couple of decent challenges.

Got 45 much needed senior minutes under his belt, it's going to be a long road, unclucky not to get a goal though as he was onside.

I said as much before the season started - we'd put our faith in Shaw for one season, it'd be repaid with a season of shaky form and constant injuries and he'll be off next summer. I'm yet to see anything from him that suggests otherwise. His time here has been so underwhelming.

Someone needs to make that position theirs this season, or we need to go out and buy a proper LB. It's our weakest position by far.

Nothing 'wonderkid'-like about him anymore let's be honest. Looks heavy, slow-thinking and at best, pretty fecking average.

I can't imagine Mourinho is ever going to be convinced.

If you mean does he have a stocky build then yes. A bit like Rooney, as much as Smalling & Fellaini suppose.

30 minutes back after a long term injury. Feck me, relax.

Zero context from some of these posts tonight.

Has he not been playing for the reserves building himself up prior to this? You said it, he had 30 minutes - that's all he had to bust his balls for, not the entire 90.

He just looks bulky and unfit. We are an energetic side but he looks cumbersome, slow and off the pace. I agree with Neville that he should be flying into tackles and trying to impress but he's coasting and cant see Jose being at all impressed.

If this season really is make or break for him at Utd then I think his time is gonna be up.

I'd love to see him realise his potential, he's the only natural left back we have, but he has so far to go to get to the point where hes a nailed on first choice, even if he can get there, I actually don't think one season is enough time.

So we're giving up on him then?

Fair few posters have given up on him prior to this game tbf, all this game has done is further justify their reasoning. Seemingly always injured, when he's not he looks unfit and off the pace. Has had more than enough time at the club to establish himself. He'll get the rest of this season, mainly because we don't really have another proper LB and it's obvious Jose put some faith in him going into the season (Evident by us not signing another LB). I don't see him turning it around though tbh.

Beginning to remind me of Anderson.
