I think you're forgetting just how good Shaw was before he joined us. He was the best leftback in the league and we have seen glimpses of they ability since joining us, albeit hampered by injuries.
So was Schneiderlin, and Fellaini too. Playing for United is conpletely different than playing under no pressure at a team like Southampton. He was very good and very stabile, but at United your game needs to raise even more. It's so apparent that we needed someone with more footballing ability than Shaw has, our best matches in the past few years has had Blind at LB over Shaw, even though Shaw is a much better defender I think and more reliable than Blind with his physique, but he misses the passing, composure, dribbling and crossing. Shaw hs had I think 1 or 2 assists in his whole time here.

Except hes put those performances in for United as well as Southampton, you've literally said it yourself. That's the difference. We know he can performance to an incredibly high level becasue we've seen it, prior to his last major injury he was looking an absolute monster, and his injury seriously hampened our team.

Reacquaint yourself with what was being said about him on this forum before his horrific double leg break.

I know he was excellent, but it was a 5 match form. It is such a small part of his spell here at United, it is the shame of the injury but he's been really poor eversince.

It shows the difference between those names you've mentioned previously and Shaw though. He's proven he has the ability to play for us, and not only hold down a starting position, but becasue one of the best left backs in the world

It rather looks like a purple patch than proving anything, likes of Cleverley have had excellent run of form as well. I wish he was given the chance to keep such form over a longer period, it's a shame. But it would be idiotic to just wait until hopefully he can regain such form which is no certainty whilst he is below the standard as of now. If we can get better, we shouldnt hesitate. And by the way I dont think he was one of the best left bacjs at that moment, Alaba, Marcelo, Alba, Filipe Luiz, Rose, Coentrao, Alex Sandro are a few levels above him easily.

Will he actually start a game again this season?

Yeah, he's definitely out. He's Mourinho's 5th choice now, despite only having 1 pure fullback to compete with.

Is the injury to blame or is he too mentally weak for Mourinho? Maybe a little of both?

I think it will be Shaw to Spurs with Dier the other way and Rose off to City.

But we've already seen him play to that level for two full seasons at Southampton, where he worked his way into the team of the season as a teenager.

He's below the standard based on what exactly? He's been injured, how on earth have you decided he is under performing?

You seem to have massive revisionism when it comes to Shaw. He was an absolute monster, there's a reason why the top two sides in the PL wanted him.

Think to play for Mourinho you need to do exactly what he told you, and Shaw isn't willing to do that.

For Jose's Perception and Philosophy Shaw is below standard in Work rate and stamina As compared to the likes of Valencia who never gets caught out of Position defensively as compared to shaw.

Felipe luis, Salah De brune Martial Mkh Shaw all these players are victims of the same reason.

A perfect full back for Jose Mourinho's Philosophy is Ashley cole ,Antonio Valencia, Marcelo Who had a very high workrate

It's a real shame, he's clearly gone. You know your time is up when Young puts you out of the team. Jose clearly doesn't like him, not even on the bench. I really thought Shaw was going to be a star with us, disappointing situation.

Its Not about the quality its about the Work rate. Filipe Luis has himself been bought Dropped and sold by jose Mourinho at chelsea.

Im not talking about him at Southamton as I dont really care too much, performing at Southampton isnt the same as performing at United. Completely different, Schneiderlin was one of the best midfielders for a few seasons too but wasnt enough. Its totally different football.

He played earlier in the season and was genuinely poor. It's also apparent as Mourinho wont even give him a look in while he's fit and played for England. He isnt as sharp as he used to.

Think that was more of a mismatch, and Azpi was just even better. Continued his game at Atletico once returned.

Shaw if Sold to any Posession based team will return to same form once again. Mourinho is asking too much of him in terms of work rate .

He must be really shit in training.

Rojo, Blind, Darmian and now Young ahead of him for LB. What a waste of money

City should try their luck. I think a great manager like Guardiola could be what he needs to get back to his best.

Is he injured? He can't be that bad to not even be on the bench. I fecking hate seeing Young on the pitch.

I can see Ashley Young breaking down soon with an injury, while shaw remains fresh and unused.

I want to keep the Optimism here in this case , He will be back Like MKH
I've tried, but when Ashley Young is picked ahead of you for left back, surely the signs are there. I commend you for your optimism.

It is a real shame that he can barely feature these days. He looked to be potentially world class before his leg break; even after his return he shown glimpses.

I think he still has it, mustn't be Mourinho's cup of tea. I hope he is given another season to prove himself.

Jose doing what he does best, behaving like a proper Cnut. No excuse not to give him playing time, even if it's from the bench but no, Jose has to try and prove a point and make it more personal.. fecking hate the arrogant prick!

You can't say it's a purple patch when he's already demonstrated he's been able to performance to the standard for an extended period of time.

So a few games earlier in the season when he's played poor constitutes being below standard. But a few games where's he's played amazing is a purple patch. Not the best logic right there, you can't have it both ways.

Its Not about Quality its about Workrate, Mourinho needs a high Work rate like Valencia which shaw is stuggling at , Its more of the case of Protection and not playing until the form is back Rather than Punishing him.
