Lukaku - transfer speculation | Gone

Last year's goals shouldn't be too hard...

That's 12 PL goals, 2 European goals.

You could very easily find yourself missing that!

12 PL goals will need to be replaced from somewhere.

The season before that was 16 PL goals and 7 assists.

He's a player whose contribution will need to be replaced - unpopular opinion or not.

Sadly he’s not mobile enough for the EPL, not just for us but any EPL team with the pace and intensity of the game here right now. Think he’s making a smart choice to go to Italy.

There was some high level sports fitness bloke on 5 Live yesterday. He said that the level of high intensity running in the PL has gone up 30% in just the past few seasons. He also said the key difference in the fitness levels as you go down the leagues is the frequency of high intensity runs the players are able to do. It just shows how important a natural level of fitness is needed to be a top player these days.

So everyone here seems to think he's gone, but what has changed in regards to Inter? They've made it pretty clear that they haven't got the money that United want, so where are they getting it from now. They haven't sold anyone that i know of. If they always had the money this would've been done ages ago because they obviously want him.

Unless he ends up going to Juve, of course.

Most people think he's gone because of his Instagram post with his agent alluding to the fact that something is in the works. That and the fact that he's not In Manchester with the rest of the squad. Seems inevitable that he's going to either inter or juve

Seems like we’ve given him permission to travel to Milan. Got to be close to being done you’d assume.

Once he gets going, he's very quick, but you're right, his acceleration isn't quite up to it. In Italy and in the CL he'll be a threat.

Would take Ben Yedder but Dembele has said he is not leaving Lyon this summer.
Ben yedder would be a massive downgrade. Just because he scored 2 goals against us doesn't mean anything. I would prefer to sign no one than waste time and money on ben yedder.

Somewhere, Haram is crying his heart out. We are finally able to correct the mistake of buying him in the first place two years ago, good riddance Lukaku, hope you do well in Serie A.

@BusbyMalone

Fabrizio Romano has said Inter are making another offer, which adds a lot of credence to the story.

Don't want Dembele, would rather see all the money go on a CB & midfielder if that's who we're looking at.

Oh yeah i know that. I seen the post. I was just intrigued by it all, and what has changed from Inter's point of view. They clearly haven't got the money and i'd be surprised if United are willing to accept a substantially lower offer, so it's intriguing more than anything. I would agree it's looking likely based on that post, and i'm interested to see how it all pans out. United have been pretty adamant about the price.

That's not even the main issue. It was the complete lack of technique that disrupted everything. If a player passes the ball to you and doesn't know if it's going to stick or not it's a big problem . I think the other players will be relieved he's off (even if some of them should go too).

I would agree. Just funny how they've all of a sudden got the money without actually selling anyone. If they had it all along then surely they would've wrapped it up earlier. Anyway, hopefully it's done soon so we can move on.

Oh I understand the question. Di Marzio said they upped the bid to 70 million. Not sure where they "found" that cash all of a sudden but that's the story. It may be that we are willing to accept that bid. Lord knows I would. Lukaku is a passenger at the moment

Spot on. For all his talk off the pitch, he very very rarely translated it on to the pitch. Just look at Ibrahimovic' time and impact here. Look at RVP. They both had that mentality to play up top for a club like United and back up the talk. Lukaku just isn't anywhere close to that ilk. He's never been the right striker for us.

Correct. We could forgive his poor touch and lack of technique if he had the right mentality.

He looks like a man who fought to get to the top, and as soon as he got there (at Utd), he just gave up. He just doesn’t have the right work ethic and mentality to work at a top club.

I quite like the guy. But if we can get nearly the money back and invest elsewhere I am more than happy. The key though is invest and not line the Glazer's pockets with the cash.

If the reports of 70 millions are true we should definitely (and i assume we will) accept it. He clearly doesn't fit into the system we have going forward and we need to move on and get the players in.

Independence Day. We can finally stop fecking over our better strikers Rashford and Martial over to the LW

Our net spending will be down to about zero if this goes through!

good guy, good striker, just not the right fit for us. I have no doubt he'll tear up the italian league, so inter should just pay up already.

Think we’ve been waiting for him to go before we sign Bruno/Maguire.

Why? In terms of goalscoring, they are both 0.45 per game strikers. Last 7 years in all competitions:
Lukaku - 17, 16, 20, 25, 26, 27, 15.
Ben Yedder - 15, 17, 15, 23, 18, 22, 30.
They are both reliable goalscorers.

Think we’ve been waiting for him to go before we sign Bruno/Maguire.
This. Everybody panicking about transfer activity needs to chill. It is a game of who will blink first. A lot of panic also as if we will start talking to other targets only after the Lukaku sale. I'm sure there are agreed transfers in place but we won't go through with them until we know the situation with Lukaku and Pogba.

That's obvious though isn't it and how could it be an unpopular opinion? We're not going to let an £80m player leave and not replace him and rely on a 17 year old.

We all know we'll miss 12 goals, but I'd also expect our next striker to score more than 12 and do better than what Lukaku has done for us.

Personally, I also think he'll bang them in Seria A as the league is suited to his style. Win for all in my opinion if we replace him properly

Clear we need to move him on. He is not good enough to be the center forward for us. However, that doesnt mean we cannot replace him. Rashford is also not good enough to lead the line. Will be interesting to see what we do. Throw 200m at Kane

Wouldn't be too sure of that. We still don't have a single RW for like 7 years. I think we will blindly hope Rashy and Martial will step it up.

Seeing Martial getting good minutes up top in pre season tells me that Ole sees him as a good backup to Rashford. With Sanchez in the squad too, he could chip in if needed.

We could easily spend the money on a right winger or even Bruno Fernandes as another attacking player. No need for stop gap, below par, back up to Rashford type players like Ben Yedder or Dembele. Plus Greenwood has spent his recent years as a CF.

Get fatty out the door and splash it on other week areas I say.

Hearing audible groans around OT last year everytime he failed to trap a regulation pass was embarrassing, I felt for the guy but he was brutal at times.

All the best to him but he won't be missed

Jadon isn't leaving this window. Seems we're hoping for him next summer. If we are to bring someone in to replace Lukaku, it'll be more of a forward than a wide player.

Yea, I do agree with you on this. However, there's just something in my gut (all those instagram posts by that Dave guy and all the tapping up Marcus & Jesse were doing over International duty) saying it could be a small possibility. With Dortmund purchasing Hazard, Brandt and linked with Malcom, I'm just hoping we good make some progress this year.

But if it is to be a forward, we were linked quite heavily with Lyon's Dembele.
