Lukaku - transfer speculation | Gone

Another reason I don't think the Dybala Lukaku swap deal will happen is that I reckon the Glazers / Woodward want to use the £70 million cash deal to reinvest into Maguire.
Still a good move,imo.
Get a good fee for Lukaku. Put that fee towards Maguire and then bring in a solid, relatively cheap forward in Yedder.

I agree in principal but where would we actually play him now? It looks like martial, rashford and greenwood are all going to be getting games up front and I don't see us playing a second striker rather than a cam now.
Two options:
Second striker in 4-2-3-1,
Or one of two strikers in the diamond/3-5-2

That's how he got used before Ronaldo came.

Not sure I see Lukaku and Ronaldo working tbh, Cristiano for the last 10 years has needed a hard working number 9 to occupy the CB's - that's everything Lukaku is not

good thought experiment. Based on the idea that the money from a Lukaku sale is needed to sign Maguire, would you

- sell Lukaku to Inter and use the money to help sign Maguire + Ben Yedder
or
- swap Lukaku for Dybala and not sign a CB
?

love Dybala, would still opt for A.

Straight up, have you ever heard of Yedder before this Summer? Genuine question.

I would hope most United fans do since he put two goals past us at Old Trafford two seasons ago for Sevilla in the CL and knocked us out and has scored 30 goals in Spain last season.

I'm not convinced going back to a second striker system is a progressive move. we haven't seen much sign that ole wants to either last season or on tour.

It feels strange that an elite club like Juve would want him.Their centre backs absolutely dominated him at OT last season with Jose praising them after the match and it wasn't a struggle or even a contest, it seemed effortless. Won't complain though if we get the right deal.

Don't think Dybala would be the worst signing ever. Just depends what his attitude and desire is like to play for the club and isn't being forced to sign for us for a season before being sold for a reduced price next season

Who would’ve thought there would ever be a bidding war on Lukaku after the season he had + considering the price tag on him

He is getting the benefit of the doubt due to the managerial situation, the team in general, a long summer, and his performances for the national team.

Yes I get that but it’s become obvious how technically limited he is as a player. Last 2 seasons have really revealed that with the spotlight being on him.

Sure he can bag you goals but he’s a straight line player that’s capable of just playing from point A to point B. That’s it. Not good enough to be part of much link up play so when you consider that as well, it’s still appalling and rather funny :D

Damn.... How good has Joao Felix been for Athletico tonight? 120m for a 21 year seems like huge bargain... Griezmann who? Always wanted him to come play as a trequartista over at United.

I think he's limited skill set can be hid in that team that they built over there. Serie A isn't really the PL.

have to think that's not that far away from our evaluation anymore. But with Juve apparently offering Dybala in a swap deal, things are getting interesting ... I mean, if we sell Lukaku to Inter, we surely have to bring in a replacement - and Dybala is easily better than the Dembeles and Ben Yedders we've been linked to. Question is, do we need money from the Lukaku sale to get Maguire over the line?

We should take the offer. 75 million Euros is a good deal, that's 67-68 million pound. Good enough offer.

If Juventus are really interested in signing Lukaku, then swap deal with Dybala would be great deal for us.

The positive is that this deal should get over the line. No point keeping a player who wants out and the manager is not keen on keeping either. I think a swap would be preferable, Dybala as replacement seems better than betting on Woodward finding a replacement in so little time remaining.

Well it's certainly one way of making him (Ronaldo) look good, having to play with Lukaku

It’s analogous to taking your fat mate out on the pull.

There’s no chance uventus or Ronaldo want Lukuku in Turin. Greggs would presumably want him there, but no one who has anything to do with football.

Our whole team underperformed, Lukaku is still one of the top striker in European international games, at the very least. Name me another striker who has scored over 48 goals for his country in Europe, and who is still in his mid twenties. There's probably none. (for example, Harry Kane, age 25, only has 22 goals for England. Griezmann, age 28, only has 29 goals)

Is calling Lukaku 'fat' some kind of ironic meme that I'm not aware of? Because it's pretty fecking stupid.

He went 2.5 months without scoring a single league goal all last season and failed to net at all against the top 10. They are not the markings of a top striker. Feck how many goals how he scored playing for an amazingly talented Belgium team.
