Lukaku - transfer speculation | Gone

Inter has until 31 August to seal the deal yes? They are therefore taking their time which is understandable whether it’s to raise money from player sales or whatever. If they need time to raise the money we want, let them have it. Does it make a difference if the transfer is completed tomorrow or on the last day of august?

Makes a huge difference to us if we cant replace him

He's had no pre-season so far, so even if he does stay how long will it take him to get up to speed? We could end up looking at another of his dry spells when he's fighting for a place.

He wasn’t up to speed for the entirety of last season - nothing to suggest he would ever get up to speed this season.

We don't need to replace him, to be fair.

I think we do - without him we are one injury away from bare bones. 2 away from having a real problem.

Even typing the above sentence I was mentally listing our options - didn't include Sanchez. Genuinely forgot that Alexis Sanchez played for us for a while there. What an asset the Arsenal version would be to our attack.

Take Dybala now. Announce tomorrow ffs. They can have Darmian for free as well

‘Inter and Juventus are competing for Romelu Lukaku. Inter are set to make a new offer to Mancehster United (after their initial €60m offer was recently rejected) for €70m plus add-ons. Juventus meanwhile are considering an initial offer that would include an exchange for Paulo Dybala. Manchester United potentially could be interested in such a swap, but whether or not the player himself is open to the move is yet to be known. The situation with Juventus could throw an obstacle in Inter's path as they look to negotiate for the Belgian.‘

Are these people mentioning Juve and  Dybala credible ?

Bidding war is perfect for us. Odd that Inter are ahead because Juventus deal sounds better.

have to think that's not that far away from our evaluation anymore. But with Juve apparently offering Dybala in a swap deal, things are getting interesting ... I mean, if we sell Lukaku to Inter, we surely have to bring in a replacement - and Dybala is easily better than the Dembeles and Ben Yedders we've been linked to. Question is, do we need money from the Lukaku sale to get Maguire over the line?

Another reason I don't think the Dybala Lukaku swap deal will happen is that I reckon the Glazers / Woodward want to use the £70 million cash deal to reinvest into Maguire.

I wonder if people have actually watched Dybala play regularly? Any juve fans here?

I'm not convinced he suits the PL especially if we ask him to play on the right side...

Lukaku has a much higher chance of success in Serie A than Dybala in the PL IMO

That's my thinking as well

With Lukaku heading to Belgium (allegedly) it means one of three things imo, he's going there for a family reason, he's going there for medical treatment or something is now happening with his transfer

Either way it wouldn't surprise me if we buckle on our previous demands over his fee just to get it done so we in turn can sign Maguire

Lukaku is going to smash Serie A, I don't think anybody is really doubting that ... which is also why you squeeze out every penny for him.

no idea if Dybala would succeed in the PL.

If he’s not on the United plane on Sunday (allegedly) for Norway for the friendly, he’s definitely gone whether he is in Italy or Belgium

Imagine swapping Lukaku for Dybala
I agree in principal but where would we actually play him now? It looks like martial, rashford and greenwood are all going to be getting games up front and I don't see us playing a second striker rather than a cam now.

We don't want to overdo it in that respect. We could end up with him still here when the window closes. We're masters at holding onto players we should be moving on.

why the feck has this taken all summer

we want to sell
they want to buy
Lukaku wants to go

seriously why can't they sort this out over the space of a few days?

Thing is, all Serie A teams should be in for Lukaku. He doesn’t suit us but he would absolutely wreck shop in Italy.

I’d swap him for Dybala in a heartbeat. If we actually get Dybala + cash for him and Ed doesn’t take it, he needs to be locked up or have some horrible things done to his manhood.

even he wouldn't be dumb enough to turn it down surely. The only stumbling block I see is convincing Dybala.

Their record signing is 36 million. Takes a while for someone to shell out way above, they have to really mull it over and accept this is the fee and low balling isn't going to work.

It's a win win for Woodward and the Glazers. They get to be seen as investing heavily in a player when it will essentially cost them nothing.
