Lukaku.

Reason being is because Lukaku is more proven. He has scored goals everywhere he's gone, whereas, Morata has sometimes struggled to do that. And with our current situation, we need someone who can carry us. Lukaku already knows what it's like to carry a team, as he's done it for Everton. Albeit, United and Everton are very different sides. I mean, they'll be a lot more pressure on him to do at United, but I think he can do it. He has that arrogance about him.

Morata, on the other hand, has his highest ever goal scoring tally this season, with 15 goals. Granted it was with a team he didn't start much for, before that, he has never scored 15 or more goals in top flight football.

Obviously that's not to say he can't do it, but I would much prefer someone who will guarantee us goals. That, and the fact Lukaku knows the premier league inside out now.

There's far more to carrying a team than scoring goals. As I said previously, I work with a bunch of Evertonians who last season were largely critical of Lukaku. Their view was that if he didn't score, he contributed nothing else. Far from carrying the team, often he was just a passenger.

Lukaku by far for me. Morata has some great qualities and will be a good/great striker if given a chance but Lukaku is proven in the PL. His strength and physical presence is not something you can teach.

I'd much rather have Morata. Hopefully Lukaku will prove to be a very good signing, albeit not the one I had hoped for.

He could be a passenger all game and score the winner. Often that is the case with top players. One chance, one goal. We didn't have that last season.

Have to admit I wanted Morata more before today but i voted Lukaku because I am happy with the way Woodward has handled the transfer. Plus while I dont regularly watch Everton, I have seen Lukaku play a fair bit but with Morata I was going on what I had read. Ultimately my preference for Morata was based on the assumption that he was Mourinho's first choice, and I trusted him. But that doesnt apply seeing as apparently Lukaku was our first choice (which is supported by the fact we settled on a figure that was higher than we were offering Madrid.)

I prefer Morata but think Lukaku is better for a Mourinho side.

I think Morata could prove to be the better player.

However, I have more confidence in Lukaku when it comes to filling the immediate gap in our firepower next season. In this particular situation I'd probably favour the latter.

Both players are dangerous in the box, can score with their head and with both feet. One factor that worries people is Lukakus involvement in the build up (due to his average first touch). Yet hes created more chances than morata and aguero and has more forward passes than kane, morata and aguero per 90 minutes. Hes also physically superior to the aforementioned. An argument can be made that Morata can potentially be a better and more complete player but thats not an absolute certainty. If we want guaranteed goals, then Lukaku is the right signing.

I have hard time understanding this. Morata is what, 24-25 now? I mean, for his years he hasn't really done all that much. Couldn't even displace Benzema, the weakest link in Real Madrid.

Morata would bring the best out of Martial, Rashford and Pogba.

But Lukaku better fits the system that Mourinho is familiar with.

To be honest, I'm disappointed that Jose has shown a lack of flexibility to try get the most out of the players already in the squad. He's opted for sticking to what he knows, even if that means overall team-cohesion will suffer.

I don't doubt that we'll be better next season than we were last. Lukaku's a very good player, and the rest of our first XI will perform to a reasonable enough level again. But a lack of ambition from the manager means that we won't get everyone playing to a level that's better than reasonable. That's what's required to win titles: making everybody in your squad play a little bit better than they'd ordinarily be capable of.

I don't believe that using Lukaku as a target man can achieve that. I hope I'm wrong.

Morata is the better player imo

Right now. Lukaku is still very very young though and has just finished behind Kane in the PL. The rest will come, and I can see him being the full package within 3 years.

I have a feeling we're still in for Morata..... We'll see in the next 48 hours.

Him and Morata are practically the same age.

And? Players develop at different rates.

The fact Morata is already a much better player at the same age makes him the better buy, as opposed to a hypothetical improvement of a 24 year old who's shown no signs of such in any of his recent seasons.

Really hope we finalise this Lukaku deal very soon otherwise it's going to be really awkward when we crawl back to Madrid with another offer for Morata.

Its not easy to replace Benzema who sacrifices himself for the team, especially for Ronaldo's benefit. Benzema is the 5th highest CL goal scorer of all time with a better goal ratio in europe than many elite players (like henry, zlatan etc.). So its not easy to displace him.

Definitely Lukaku. I've never been that impressed when I've watched Morata, it would've been a huge risk to pay the amount Real Madrid were asking and he could well have been a flop.

I have a few points:
1. Some are saying morata suits our possession-based stlye due to his superior technique, but what if we are moving to a more counterattack centred strategy? JM said the possession style was due to a lack of pace but with lukaku, HM, martial, rashford could we not be looking at something similar to mou's madrid?

2. I think Lukaku's lack of technique is overstated. His first touch is inconsistent but he has good feet and creates alot of chances. Moreover, the issue is that he won't be able to function in tight spaces but if our playing style becomes more dynamic and expansive then he won't have to. Anyway, morata's dribble and assist against bayern was impressive but look at Lukaku's solo goal against chelsea and tell me that's not as good.

3. 25 goals. With Everton.

I also think Morata has the highest ceiling and I think most people would agree. Morata has the package to be the complete striker and given the opportunity I see him becoming a beast. He's technically great, versatile, can play wide, great in the air, can see and execute a pass and despite being tall he's not slow. Lukaku is hindered by his technical ability or lack thereof, also, players that rely on their physical prowess usually have shorter expiration dates as well. They are not far of each other age wise either, I think Morata is older by months

Morata is just all around better and would offer more than lukaku

To be fair, the starting striker for the current Madrid side has to be someone who links up the best with Ronaldo and essentially play a supporting role to feed Ronaldo all game. Benzema is better at doing that so he starts ahead of Morata.

Can we have a either/both option?
I don't have a preference between them and I'm happy with either.

I have a feeling we're still in for Morata..... We'll see in the next 48 hours.

No no, last week was 48 hours.
This week, it was 72 hours.
By my reckoning it will be 96 hours, next week. ;)

Personally, I think Morata is either angling for more 1st team football at R.Madrid (and he is using MUFC to get Madrid/Zidane to agree to this) or he is looking for more money (ie. better contract).
When it comes to Madrid players, I do not believe for 1 minute that they want to come to MUFC for genuine reasons.

BTW. what happened about Ronaldo's, "get me to MUFC" plea to his agent?

NEVER EVER TRUST PLAYERS WHO ARE PLAYING FOR MADRID (BOTH OF THEM).

Surprised its this close between the two in terms of the vote. I got the impression early on that not many people saw Morata play

They are both very good players. But it's Lukaku for me.

Proven Premier League players like Yorke, Cole, Sheringham, Tevez, Berbatov and RVP didn't dissapoint. Same goes for a talented but unproven Rooney, Louis Saha and Eric Cantona.

I don't think Lukaku is a gamble at all. Morata is.

Both of them have great merits, Morata better all round game, Lukaku more physical blah blah blah, the truth is Lukaku is MORE likely to be a success, and IF he is Mourinho 's preference then it's a no brainer, I struggle to see how both could play together without re-writing the coaching manuals, but if it has to be one or the other then Lukaku

The only reason Lukaku has more votes is because we've 'agreed a fee'. Do this poll yesterday and it's at least 75% for Morata.

Very good comment. Agree with it all.

I think Lukaku and thought that when we were linked with Morata too. I'm not sure theres a lot between them but I think hes more of a Mourinho type of striker

Never wanted Morata. Talented but unproven. I would much rather Lukaku, proven goal scorer and a proper No.9, what we need the most. i doubt Morata would have scored as many in the EPL for Everton as Lukaku has and I imagine Lukaku to be a star in that Real Madrid side, which Morata isn't.

I think it's the opposite. If we'd signed Morata, about 80% would be saying they preferred Lukaku. Bunch of pessimists in here.

Lukaku for me and it's not even close, I think he's a top striker.

I don't think Morata is good enough to be the main striker for a top team.

Morata is the better all round player, but Lukaku is the better goalscorer. Due to Morata playing at Real and not being a starter, it is hard to guess how good he would be week in week out for us in terms of output. Lukaku edges it for me slightly, but i would take Morata too if possible, but i guess Real are cnuts and want too much money for it to happen.
