Luis Suarez to Liverpool?

Dick of a guy but, should be a good signing for Liverpool. They really need some quality in terms of goal scoring beside Torres and he should provide that.

That said - hope fails spectacularly.

I seriously have no idea how good this guy is. The only bits I've see of him were a little bit at the World Cup and he was OK. Forlan ran the show.

Dutch football watchers, what say you?

Diego looks a few classes above when playing with Suarez.

There's a clue mate.

Great signing for them, I think. Kuyt the donkey will be on the bench, and Suarez should add some skill and invention to their forward line.

I really was hoping the deal wouldn't go through.

he is definately way better option than Kuyt or Ngog upfront.

He's not suited to the Premiership. He'll be shipped off to Spain next year.

£23m is a lot of money, but to be fair money needed to be spent at Liverpool. Ngog remained a 2nd striker for far too long at a club that was meant to be aiming to challenge for top honours. Having said that, he could find himself there again if Torres leaves, although no one sees them as that threat any more.

Will be interesting to see if they can hang on to Torres, and either way what way they'll line up, and then obviously how Suarez adapts and both the short and long term impact he has.

You'd imagine a step in the right direction for Liverpool, but still some way off the top 4 though in spite of this I'd say.

I reckon he'll be a decent signing for them worryingly - not sure if this means Torres is off though

Is Gerrard finally following Torres to Chelsea?

It's blatantly a replacement for Torres. Reckon another player will be coming in for the dippers as well after this

I seriously doubt they sign Suarez just to replace Torres they want to play both of them together, unless Torres himself want out.

well at least they are desperate enough to sign a cheat hehe. :smirk:

I think its a good signing for one reason and one reason only. There's lots of hype about this player with a certain section of fans from all kinds of clubs, including the top clubs, believing that he could be a good player for their team.

So to those fans this seems like Liverpool signing one of the best talents out there. And at a time when the truth is, they cant attract the best talents out there so they have to take a gamble with a lot of money. At worst he should perform a little bit better than Keane did.

Fairly expensive, but overall he has a proven goal scoring record, which at this point may or may not translate well in England, it will be interesting to see. I think he is a good player, althouhg I wouldnt want him for what they paid for him.

Forking out £23M must surely mean Torres is going out the door?

If not, I had no idea they had £20M+ at their disposable.. Especially in January.

Good point.

Otherwise I'd say what hell heel are they buying another striker. Don't read this Kenny. But, you need better FBs (always have) and a CB. Plus you need a CM for starters. Buying another striker does nothing to improve their weak positions.

Suarez signing has nothing to do with Torres staying or going.

FSG said they'd spend what they had to to make us competitive, but they'd be smartabout it. They are. Good start.

If Liverpool are smart it'll be about £5 million of success based payments they'll never have to pay. Same as Wenger

Up front has been a glaring weakness for ages for us. Keep up.

Why not?

These aren't the Venkys....

Torres won't be going anywhere, it will however mean the end of Kuyt the automatic starter.

Selling Torres and using the money to strengthen multiple weak positions can make you more competative. Its not like he's set the world alight this seaosn

You realize that they only have one other striker apart from Torres and he goes by the name Ngog? Their lack of depth in the striking department has really hurt them when Torres has been out or couldn't be bothered to play.

They do need better quality at the back but, to go through a season with 2 strikers and one of them being Ngog was madness from the start.

It appears it might

I'm assuming this is the kind of stuff that's actually been negotiated.

Starting out with 'we'll pay 12m'.

'nope, 35m.'

'mmm.... 18m?

'nope, 30m'.

'25m'

'alright'

doesn't seem to make much sense. Certainly not for the week it's been going on.

You don't win with skill alone. You need work horses. Say what you will about Kuyt, the man works his socks off. Liverpool doesn't have enough players like him.

Not really. We were in for Suarez well before there was even a whisper from Chelsea.

They are quite unrelated. Suarez is clearly with the intent of playing him alongside Torres.

Surprised Chelsea didn't go for him when they're bidding for Aguero and Torres. Much cheaper option.

you're assuming we won't be strengthening in the summer regardless.

Players like Torres are the ones that make a difference between clubs and the hardest to find. You don't sell them unless you absolutely have to.

I'd much rather improve a few positions and keep Torres than sell him and spend that money on a host of new players.

Suarez is a hard worker, and Torres when he's not being a pussy defends from the front well, look at how many fouls he's racked up in the league...

keeping Torres wont be up to Liverpool now will it?

Good signing, should help Liverpool secure their mid table status.

Good signing for Liverpool, will take some pressure of Torres (if he stays which I think he will, at least until the summer). £23m seems about right in today's market as well. Certainly looks like he'll be Torres' long-term replacement though.
