Yes. And it seems to have held water in two respects: as guessed, the wba game saw the entry of both nani and kagawa, in addition to game time for januzaj, anderson and evans. And while I would say it was badly executed, it still reinforced Myes decision of holding them back, in that the team showed clear weaknesses also with them in it.

As a result of other players in the team such as Buttner, Jones and Ferdinand. The supposed weaknesses had nothing to do with Nani.

Realistic
Guesswork: Moyes thought 'finding our feet' whilst losing half of our opening battles will prove impossible. Best build from safety to get through rough patch in one piece. Otherwize media and hysteric fans will give no room for error. Best start of unadventurous and mediocre and develop gradually.
Guesswork 2: 'safely' means same back four as far as possible. Cost: no rest for rio, evans to wait. It means: going for valencia and young who are normally disciplined, experienced, knows how to perform a cautious 4-4-1-1. Cost: loss of creativity going forward. Burden on rvp/roo. Unexiting team sheets. It means: give carrick help defending. Playing clev before ando, getting fellaini in asap with focus on formations. Cost: little dynamic, attackers left alone. It means: rvp and rooney as much as possible to get them going and shore up points in even games. Cost: rvp fatigued, welbeck treated unfairly, chicha and shinji left cold, showing 'weakness' in face of rooney stand off (or rather strength?).

Guesswork, yes. If correct, I'd assess it as so far so good. 3-1-2 from these games is no car crash. First hurdle passed, little won, but not everything lost, which could have been the situation with some exiting football to begin with and 1-1-4.

If correct, I'd expect: game time to come now for nani, chicharito and kagawa. Rio rested some, but not too much. Januzaj and later zaha with cameos, but not at the expence of getting nani and kafawa going. Rvp rested some. Fellaini given time, and gradually more like 4-2-3-1 than 4-4-1-1. We'll see. But probably only slowly.
Reading this post has made my brain bleed.

Do you really think he deliberately chose to cut out some of the play, just for the craic? Without them it doesn't go up on youtube.

Did someone really say Fellaini could've been given onside on another day? Seriously?

feck knows. I've watched tons of these videos and never had that problem. Maybe other use less prominent borders. Some often use a mirror image of the actual video instead.

Still looks off the pace a bit, which is understandable - it's amazing how easy he goes past players though.

Think he could do with passing the ball a bit more like on his first good performance back, but given the lack of involvement by our central players due to pressing its not really surprising that he wants to do something else

Looks more dangerous centrally, when he was wide he was surrounded by at least 3 or 4 players, and Rafael didn't have much space for overlapping to help him.

He's been awful so far really.

Apart from Januzaj he's been our best player I thought. Looks like making something happen every time he gets the ball, and had a few good shots. Not sure why you think he's been awful.

Not a great game, but did well. Crosses were inconsistent, as per, but he did well to dribble and cross for Januzaj's first goal, though obviously the defence should have done better.

Thought he played well, just a case of the ball not quite making it, but the idea was right. Him and Januzaj were drifting all over and it was working nicely. I don't think Rooney and RVP, particularly in the first half were as sharp as they could be, when they are than with these two the attack could be very good. Think we should keep with this for a bit and look to focus on the defensive side of the game as think there are some issues there which could make us more secure and allow these guys to shine even more.

Should've scored. Not a great match at all.

Incredible to think that out of the attacking quarter which started today, an eighteen year old outshoned all of them comfortably.

He wasn't at his best but he was better than the rest bar Adnan and Rafael today. Nani is a class player, capable of making things happen and his mere presence on the pitch had Sunderland worried

What were you lot watching? He was shite!

Shite? Seems harsh, not a great game or anything, but not bad at all imo, linked up well, just couldn't quite get the final ball through, but always looking to make stuff happen.

What were you lot watching? He was shite!

I'm with you, but not to that extreme. He did well and that's it. Should have done better to test Westwood, though, but still better than most of our players.

What were you lot watching? He was shite!

No he wasn't. He was decent, and actually found himself being double marked a lot of the game due to Rafael's unwillingness to get forward and overlap.

He really was poor. If young or Valencia were as wasteful with crosses as he was tonight, they'd be prosecuted.

I don't remember too much crosses from him apart from the one before the second goal. He just brings so much more than the other wingers and it's good to see that. He held the ball up well, went past players and put Sunderland on the back foot despite having little end product.

His crosses weren't great but at least he was trying to pick someone out. The problem with Valencia and Young is that when they cross, or rather if they cross as they check a lot, they just seem to put it in the box, Valencia with his drilled ball and Young with his looped ball. Generally either way I thought he was one of our better players without it being near to his best.

Agree about this not being his best game, but you're trying to be too objective. We scored after his cross(which was poor) after all, and had few good chances after his crosses in first half too. Look at Valencia's first cross of the game today, and compare it with any of Nani's today and the difference is clear as day.

How was Nani poor? Him, Januzaj and out fullbacks looked like the only players that could create something going forward.

Aimless cross after cross. If it was Valencia or Young people would be up in arms. Nani was crap.

Surely a difference between his crosses which were actually trying to pick out a specific player than their crosses which are just put in the box? He had to play a few deeper ones as well as particularly in the first half, if he or januzaj didn't drop central, neither RVP or Rooney did, and when they did they were poor with the ball.

Valencia's dribble and pass for the van Persie 1v1 was better than anything Nani did today.

True. We found Valencia's best role, coming off the bench with 15 mins to go with full energy against a knackered defence

People shouldn't argue against Nani being crap when I say he is.

 Even if you're just a bit wrong. He was one of our most positive players out there. He lacked in quality but his ability to beat players and find space was clear. I'll agree that his accuracy and finishing brought his whole game down though. But we should surely persist with him. The alternative options don't look better.

Can't argue with that, but was comparing their crosses because Cina mentioned them.

it was only his 5th league start in a year, he hasn't had a proper run in the side for about 2 years now with injuries & been benched but he was always looking to make things happen. Give him a fair run of games like the other wingers have had and I am convinced he will play himself into top form.
