Not a very good comparison. Sneijder played 5 games in his last season, or 25 times in total for his last two seasons, and clearly was a failure at Madrid due to injury and absence from the team. Compared to Di Maria who played 59 times in his last season alone, and created 26 goals. Hell, Di Maria almost played more games in his last season that Sneijder did in his entire career for Madrid. They aren't going to sell Di Maria, a player who has been a success in his three seasons with some of the best figures in the league for a winger, for a 11 million euro loss, for no reason.

I appreciate the logic, but I think you're treating Madrid too much like a normal football club. A normal football club doesn't replace one of their better players for no reason. Heck, a normal football club doesn't buy Gareth Bale for £85m.

The clauses are misleading too, I imagine a massive proportion of that would be CL win dependent, something Di Maria has not achieved at Madrid.

Regardless, from both the player and the clubs point of view it might make sense to let Di Maria go if Bale signed. From the players perspective he'd probably go from being first choice to behind Ronaldo, Bale, Isco and Ozil in the pecking order through no fault of his own and you'd have to imagine (given the fees paid for them) that they'd not be much rotation of Ronaldo and Bale. I could completely understand him wanting to leave if that transfer went through.

From Real Madrid's perspective he's on €3m a a year and he's barely needed in this scenario, €25m might be a loss on his initial transfer but it would mitigate the cost of some of the Bale transfer and his wages.

I can completely see where people that disagree with that argument come from, but I find it hard to believe that the scenario that would leave Di Maria leaving Madrid this year could see Madrid demanding a high fee.

I've not been around or in touch much, but is he out injured?
Strange to not even see him on the bench again...

Got injured in the game in Sweden iirc.

We have no replacement for him, surely wouldn't be able to get one in now anyway, and he's still better than every other option for the wings that we currently have.

Answer - sell him at the very end of the window.

To be fair, he's been linked with Juve in the past numerous times, if he goes it's probably because he's the one who wants to.

Yeah, then sell him when we can do something about it, not days before the end of the window when we are already understocked in that same area.

Juve probably intentionally waited until now.

I agree with you but seemingly the club had absolutely no intentions of buying wingers this Summer regardless of Nani's position so obviously they just don't see an issue with it.

Which is completely mental, given we have had consistent injuries in every season for at least one of Young, Valencia and Nani. Zaha isn't ready and even if he was, that leaves us back with just 3 actual wingers.

Terrible news if true. And I really can't understand why are we doing this, he's miles better than any other of our wingers.

I'd be amazed if this happens. You'd expect Moyes to atleast give him a chance. ffs. He'l be a star for Juve

We're gonna do an Arsenal and make a profit this summer; the only way this makes sense is if we have a replacement lined up or have really high hopes for Zaha/Januzaj short term.

I don't think this will happen. It would be astonishing even by our supremely low standards in this transfer window to do something so stupid.

If he goes we need a replacement. Zaha isn't ready to start on a weekly basis and that leaves us with Valencia and Young, the latter should be a squad player at best.

Maybe Moyes just sees us moving away from out and out wingers and using the likes of Welbeck & Kagawa in wide positions.

If Valencia doesnt improve, wow. We'l be fecked.

Ha to be about the contract then and him refusing to sign one. I doubt we could be that stupid otherwise.

Are there any likely replacements available? Have we even been linked with any wingers this summer?

Maybe Moyes see Zaha as his replacement and plans to use Welbeck more as a winger this season?

£11m is ridiculous. He's actually our best winger and just needs a good run in the first XI.
Jamie Jackson said he wanted to stay and sign a new contract a couple of weeks ago :(
