When he was on top, Nani displayed incredible pace, directness in his play and great vision and none of that "unintelligent" play that he was associated with. He didn't dribble all that much; instead he just ran past players.

Well yeah, cause he didn't have the football.

3 years on. Where's that Nani?
If that Nani could show up for 20 games a season and be reasonably ok in the rest, we'd have very few complaints about shit wingers.

The problem Moyes has if he stays is, who plays on the left? We've got 4 out and out wingers, three who are approaching or in their late 20s and one young one who needs to play. 3 of them more comfortable on the right and the other widely hated more comfortable on the left.

Do we go back to the early days of Nani on the left, or do we have a 3 way battle for the right wing slot?

Isn't that the year he had half a good season and most people wanted him sold?

thepolice123 is referring to season 09/10 (which includes the game against Arsenal from that video), which was when Nani started to turn it around. That was also when Rooney scored 34 odd goals.

I believe you are talking about 10/11 (Nani's finest season, he was unbelievable), where Rooney was beyond horrendous in the first half, decided he wanted to leave, signed a new contract and played maybe the best football of his life from February 2011 until the CL Final in May that year.

Edit: On topic, I am delighted to hear the news about Nani staying. I hope he signs a new contract and we give him the wage we should, even if just to pen him down to restate his stance in the team as a first XI type of player (if I am making any sense here). This guy is unbelievably talented, only Scholes, Berbatov and Ronaldo have better feet than him if we're talking the last few years or so. On form, he can really be the best winger in the world if he fulfills that potential. I've always been a huge fan.

He did start off bad but he did turn it around, 9/10 was the season. He was amazing in the second half, I think it was the second half, and the season following that. I believe he will have a smashing season if belief is shown.

My favourite Nani season was the one people started wanking themselves over Bale even though Nani had a much superior season.

My mates gave me so much stick when I stated Nani had had a much better season than Bale, which at the time was so clearly true to me.

09/10 was when his all round play wasn't exactly top notch, but he was putting away the goals like no one's business. Played as the lone striker most of the time, and for me, the game that defined that season for him was our 3-2 win away vs AC Milan (he was majestic in the 4-0 home game, too). Great performances. He was our talisman that season, really. 10/11 he was just abysmal for the first six months (and then there was the transfer request around Oct '10) but after he signed on, he was excellent once more. Played some amazing football behind Chicharito, like the away game vs Schalke, the hattrick at WHU, & the game vs Chelsea in the CL.

And yeah, agreed. Should he sign a new contract, it is fair to say he'll have another 'comeback' next year, or whatever it is. My only worry is that he'll do what he did once before, and cause another problem 1 or 2 years down the line from now where he won't be able to fetch as much money should we sell him - he isn't exactly a youngster at the minute.

That pose reminds me a pervy German teacher we used to have at school. There was always a mad rush to get to his classroom first so we could avoid having to sit on the front row and spend the entire lesson with our faces a foot away from his dangling fruit.

Just noticed Moyes mentioning in post match about adding Nani to the team. Nice to hear his name again, would seem like as good a signing as any

Has there been any mention of him today? Young, Smalling and Kagawa have joined up but no Nani. Moyes mentioned him along with Valencia and Young when talking about how we can play with wingers but no mention on why he hasn't joined up or what he's up to.

He's having/had a nose operation so isn't going on tour (hence thread title).

He's grown a long beard and was last seen in the same room where Rooney said "They say. He is. A legend" in a state of deep contemplation.

Thought the same. Really hope he's seen as first choice with Moyes. Whenever he's been given a run of games and he was confidence he pretty much always produced the goods. Think he can be a key player for us if he stays.

Obviously Nani needs longer to recover from whatever was done to his face than Smalling and Young needed for their injuries.

Probably not the best time for a long distance flight for him. Hopefully he's training - somewhere.

L'Equipe are claiming that Manchester United winger Nani is in Monaco to discuss a possible transfer. The 26-year-old Portugal international has been a target for Russian clubs for several months but looked to be staying at Old Trafford after receiving reassurances from new boss David Moyes. Nani is currently recovering from a nose operation which kept him out of United's current tour.

From Sky tansfer updates.

Well that has to be bollocks - If he cannot fly out to the pre season tour, I don't understand how he could fly to Monaco.

I really do hope he stays though, he is our best winger on form.

There's a tweet in the Twitter thread suggesting its 14.5m and that it will be completed tomorrow.
